I'm sick of red, white, and black.
So I'm in the market for a new bike, (probably a trek or cervelo) and I cannot seem to find color options on either of the manufacturers websites. (except for project one bikes)

Do manufacturers only like red, white, and black these days, or am I just not opening my eyes?

Not in to the pink much. (I'm not fast enough for it) But fluorescent green and white theme would be sick I think...

And my LBS only caries those two brands = ($$ saved)

What's wrong with the no-cost paint choices Trek provide? No need to go Project 1 as such. The black Speed Concept is very nice!

I'm lucky that I like red and red black and white are the team colours!

They are going to select the most widely accepted colors (read: best selling). Companies track which color schemes/patterns do well and which ones do not and then go from there...

I'm a huge red/ black / white fan (all my bikes have to have red)....but I agree. It is ridiculous right now.

Part of it is that the "black" is usually the natural carbon color, and red seems to go easily with that. This is compounded by the fact that many component companies have strong red colorways in their components (FSA, etc).

Red, black, and white consistently outperform other colors when coupled with another option. That said you'll see some team issue models deviate from that pattern and the "blackout" look is also gaining popularity as the high end hue.

For 2012 we're trying some new colors that deviate from our standard matte black with white decal. The first 2012 bike we showed was our new flagship 'cross bike which is matte carbon with neon chartreuse and silver decals. As another poster pointed out, we've tried bringing green and orange into some higher volume models. It seems however that these colors often have a love-or-hate reaction. Tom Demerly recently reported in his TriSports U review that our F4 looks better without the orange accented colors, I doubt we'd get any complaints from a black and white bike using black tires. Less flash? yes. Fewer sales? no.

We'll keep trying, we'll launch the 2012 website right around 9/1 along with many others. I think you might see some Leopard Treks, Garmin Cervelos, and Rabobank's Giants sporting something other than RB&W.

Maybe I'm boring, but I don't mind the current predominance of red/white/black. I used to have one yellow bike and one red bike and I had only two choices - either had to say f- it and not worry about what things looked like or spend time and money buying extra gear just to make both bikes look decent. (I wavered back and forth between both opinions). Most noteworthy, my better/lighter race wheels happened to look like crap on my yellow bike and buying a second set just for aesthetics wasn't ever going to be an option.

Red/black/white is boring, yes. But it has certainly made things easier. With my current stable of bikes (one red, one white) I can use whatever gear I want/need and things still look relatively decent.

I am not a fan of red and black, although it is classic and timeless. My 26" is red and black. I do like white, though...my 29er is white with black accents, and it's very sharp, IMO. My road bike is yellow with black; my tri bike is black and yellow. Both conveniently chosen to match my alma mater ;-)

Really, though, what i want is orange. (2004 QR Caliente, 2005 Felts S22, etc. Pretty, shiny, lovely orange. Mmmmm)

Take the old bike, send it to Hot Tubes or a local painter (less than $500?), then make a few upgrades to the bike (new saddle, bar tape, new cassette). New aero helmet to match!

And over at De Soto, the red and black options are rarely/ never available on clearance at the end of the season. Yellow? Yup, can get that.

Personally, I love the red/ black/ white schemes. I love the colors in general, and it excites me more to put those on and go race than to put on yellow/ green/ orange/ purple/ whatever. If that makes me a six year old girl, so be it.

I'm probably one of the few exceptions here, in that I'm around high end carbon everyday, and have been for years. To me the all black bikes are stunningly boring. I like colors, metallic colors, and Jewel tones. I love the Blue bikes just for that reason. Got a bike with 3 tow weave? Meh. Got a super nice paint job with some color? Now we're talking. But that's just me.

I saw a gal this weekend at BSLT on a powder blue tri bike, not sure what frame, with a powder blue disc, and matching helmet. She must have passed me 3 times, and every time, I couldn't miss her. Had flowers on her disc, too, I think.

I saw lots of super nice bikes this weekend, but the ones that stood out where the ones in metallic color. .....Oh, and the Specialized Transitions. Strangely, it was really hard to differentiate the P4s from Shivs at a distance....as I said, they're boring. But fast.

To the original poster, since you mentioned Project One, keep in mind that project one is in essence an extra $5 charge or something like that, it's tiny. On top of that, you can choose anyone of the 9.5 through 9.8 for free:
Black White Grey
Carbon
Red
Blue
Green

Anyway, I agree that colors as of late are pretty lame, thats why I bought a green bike though.
