Okay, so since the broken wrist/cast...the 75,000 isn't going to happen. After I get my waterproof cast and swim once I'll see what I might be able to do for the month.

Suprisingly good...thanks for asking. I'm amazed at how quickly I've adapted to the cast, and not using the L hand (well, except for typing (but I'm getting better) and I keep clocking myself in the head when I put on a tee shirt). Been running a lot and on the bike trainer a bit, think I'll stick to the trainer for another 10 days then hit the road again (only do this once a week so I don't lose all my hill riding capability). Miss swimming though :-( We'll see how it goes with the H2O proof cast.

Put me down for 65,000m.

I did a race on Sunday, 750m. Prob worst swim I've had in a triathlon. Tonight I swam 5950m and felt the best I've felt in AGES! Totally weird. I also swam with the local club for the last 1.5kms or so...so much better than swimming by yourself.

Anyway, did quite a bit of harder stuff tonight.

500m warmup, drills every 4th 50
200 kick fins
4x300 free mod/hard, 30s rest
16x25 sprint, deep water start, 10 s rest (so basically a split 400, altho you can keep a pretty high pace with that amount of rest)
600 pull race pace, ie pace in oly race
4x200 free mod/hard, 30s rest
150 hard, 50 easy, free
600 pull race pace
8x25 sprint on 45s
10x100 threshold pace 1st set of 5, 20 s rest, second set of 5, 30s rest (threshold pace = heart rate of around 170-180)
250 warm down

So put me down for 6650m so far.

OK Coach,
My first swim of the month - all I could do in my sparse 40 minutes:
500 yd w/u
500 yd IM kick (125 of each stroke, ummm, kick)
1000 yd pyramid (50/100/150/200/200/150/100/50) based on a 45 sec per 50 interval
200 yd w/d
-------------
2200 yds total (yawn)

Thank you!

As of Feb 5th I am up to 4500m. Please up my initial goal to 20,000m. 15,000m is kinda sandbagging it even though I have lots of other XC ski related stuff going on this month. If I give myself a harder goal, I'll try and manufacture the time to make it happen. The Dec and Jan challenges really forced that on me...otherwise my swimming would be next to nothing in those months like previous years.

thanks

hahaha. race went great. just a local sprint here in town to get everybody moving in the off-season. the tri club puts it on so it is always fun. i did really well, considering how tired and broken down i am. swam fast, road well (despite the horrible wind and cold) and ran strong. i ended up winning overall, which was nice - both for me and scott:)

Hey Tigerchik.

Saturday the 3rd. Swam 3800m. It was great. I haven't swam in a 50m pool for awhile and I can't wait to do it again.

I missed an interval for the first time today [ In reply to ]

Frustrations of a perfectionist:

So I missed my interval on the 8oo. The rest of the set, perfect, all the splits effortlessly where I wanted them, but that last one, five seconds. Five seconds.

I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Ian would shake it off, flip into the recovery set and forget about it within two strokes. Suck it up princess it's five seconds.

Jordan, the friend who was hit by a drunk driver a few weeks ago, is still in the hospital. She's had three surgeries now and she'd kill to swim at all, who cares if you make your interval or not, you can swim.

So I don't care. Really. It's five seconds, that was a long workout, and the rest of it was perfect. I picked up the pace every 200 until the last 100 was a 1:10 which is good for the end of an 800.

Forgive my obsessing. I've never missed an interval before, it's an odd feeling. I'm sure no one else cares - no one else noticed, the world didn't stop spinning. It's just never happened before!

Suck it up princess, it's five seconds.

1ooo w/u
4 x [4 x 50 on :45 + 200 on 2:45] - 33s, 2:28s
4 x 1oo on 1:30 easy ~1:15s
2 x [4 x 1oo on 1:25 + 4oo on 5:20] - 1:12s, 4:55s
4 x 1oo on 1:30 easy ~1:15s
1 x [4 x 2oo on 2:45 + 8oo on 10:00] - 2:28s, 10:05
4 x 1oo on 1:30 easy ~1:15s c/d

It's all good. That is a really fun workout! And another swimmer told me, "your stroke is beautiful, can you help me with mine?" so I helped her with the hip rotation - you can reach farther than catching and pulling from flat on your stomach, and those couple inches times 15-17 strokes add up. I always enjoy helping people learn how to swim smoother. And my stroke did feel very graceful today.
:)

22.5k for the month
