TOTALLY interested:

Where are you located Southern Maine just 1 hour north of Boston
How far would you be willing to travel preferably where I can drive but if not too bad a flight would do that too
Suggestions for locations Acadia National Park, Maine; Berkshires; or Lake Placid
Suggestions for timing fall, I am the RD for Pumpkinman (Maine's First Half) so it definately needs to be in the fall....maybe October
not to totally hijack this thread.....but I am pretty psyched for Pumpkinman! That being said, it is the same day as The Flattest Century and I am torn between the two. Which one would help me more towards IMFL? Tough decision....

I once attended a training weekend in NH, Gilford to be exact. We did a lot of training on the Timberman/Big Lake course. We stayed at B'Maes but the Gunstock Inn has a lap pool.

Does NH appeal to anyone?

Pumpkinman would definately help you (although I am biased)....unless you plan on swimming before the century ride and running a half after....why not join us for the First ever Half in Maine....you would be a part of HISTORY!! No seriously...you will love the couse....so New England!

Maybe we should do the East Coast weekend up at Pumpkinman. Those who want to race can race and others can volunteer. Is Boston the best airport to fly into?

it is the same weekend as Hyannis 2 - a very big sprint down here - as well as a women's tri in Hopkinton - if I don't do an olympic in august (or even if I do) I know I plan to do one of these....so I would not be able to come

Yes, Hyannis II is that same weekend as Pumpkinman, on Saturday while P'man is Sunday. We could have a roll call and see who's in for Hyannis and if not many are then that weekend could work. I usually do Hyannis since I live about 3 miles from the beach but I'm gonna go long that weekend instead. I have people that stay with me for Hyannis and I've told them we're heading out of town right after the race to head to Maine. I just might head up on Friday night and leave the house open, we'll see.

Hey Cat...I'm EllenG on BT. We ALMOST met this morning on the ride that didn't happen.....

If it's the weekend of Pumpkinman, I'm out -- I'm doing Patriots in Williamsburg. But I think organizing the weekend around a race is an excellent idea.

Ladies,
Pumpkinman is the perfect weekend....and here's why:
1. TRUKWEAZ is the color commentator for the HALF!! A few other ST men will be racing and three will even be sitting on the roundtable discussion.
2. There is a sprint on Saturday, pasta gala on Saturday night, and the big shabang on Sunday.
3. Awesome gorgeous places to stay for the weekend.
4. YOU CAN ALL HELP ME!!
5. Did I mention....I'm the RD...there aren't many solo women RD's out there....we need all the support we can get.
Seriously though....
great venue, beautiful time of year (Ocean is only 15 minutes from venue and is still plenty warm). Joan Benoit Samuelson will probably be back to race again (which for me was surreal).
Just my 2 cents.

Where are you located: Greenville, SC
How far would you be willing to travel: can get cheap flights pretty much anywhere on the east so anywhere really....
Suggested locations: Boone, NC would be ideal...though Vermont wouldn't be bad either
Suggested timing: semester breaks :) for the student's sake

I'm going to try an organize something for Pumpkinman weekend for those who are close by and traveling isn't too big of an issue. But, Dawn, how about Columbus Day Weekend?? That's a three day for most...and it would allow our college girls to join in too. (It's also usually my birthday....40 this year)...LOL!

How far of a drive is pumkinman from NYC?

Who the heck gets Columbus day off work? I don't remember getting out of college/grad school classes for it either. If it is somewhere close to the NYC area, I could probably do that weekend.

It's a big holiday in Massachusetts - lots of people get it off. It usually corresponds with Canadian Thanksgiving so us Canucks are off too.

Ah yes, Canadian thanksgiving--I celebrated with my Canadian roomate when I was in grad school. I forgot it came so early. I've never heard of any companies around here (NJ) getting the day off, but I sure wish that I did. October is a long month and no company holidays :(

Portland,ME is the closest airport but Boston & Manchester, NH are also an options & might offer a cheaper flights. To anyone flying in to Boston (or Manchester-it's on the way), I can take 3 people & 3 bikes from Boston to Maine.

I would be up for someting in August. My guess is that we would need to work around Timberman, Steelhead, and maybe IM Louisville? What weekends in August do NOT work for people?

Riding is gorgeous during Columbus Day weekend...and depending on the warmth of the fall (if this odd snow filled winter in any indication) the water in lakes and ponds could still be ok...mid to high 60s.
Southern Maine (where Pumpkinman is) is just 1 hour north of Boston. And, Skybus flys into Portsmouth NH from various locations. There is also a great Bus Service, C & J Trailways right at Logan into Portsmouth. In addition, Manchester (aka Manch Vegas), NH is only 45 minutes, I believe Southwest and many others fly into there.
Anyway, ladies, check out these areas.....York, Kittery, Kennebunkport and Ogunquit, Maine, and Portsmouth, NH....I really think we could have a blast weekend in this area (again I am biased)....we can ride inland to the apple orchards, prime time...and still head back to the beaches for some gorgeous runs!

I would reallly like to go up to Maine, since I have never been there. One of the few states in the lower 48 that I have not been to yet.
August would be better for me personally, not sure I could make that far of a trip in October. It is probably really pretty in october with the leaves changing and all...

Hey, great idea!
I'm on Long Island in NY too.

I would go within a few hours driving distance, Lake Placid, Vermont, New Hampshire - all great riding.
