If my quick scan is correct, it looks like Dave had moved up to ~ 3rd in his age group passing 80+ riders in the age group along the way. Not too shabby for a BMX guy;)

Hugh

Sat at 23~ mph on the first half of loop two. If he has any sort of marathon he'll qualify.

It's a Zipp. You can even see "Zipp" embroidered on it in his instagram pictures.

Just saw him on video at Run Out. He looked a little disoriented but maybe was still stashing nutrition and stuff while figuring out the way outta there. Getting reports of 6th man through, though with the staggered start I don't have a good sense of his placing. Regardless, he is in the KQ hunt at this point and his run training has been exactly what he needs to make that happen.

Nail biter!

great update. I have followed his career for a very long time now and so happy he has taken up triathlon.

Ironman.com sucks for coverage today.

Wow! And per Lesley's Tweet he even had a flat at mile 98 and still crushed that bike!

He has a bit over a 10 minute lead on #2 in the age group. That should give a bit of cushion.

Actually he might be in first, the guy above him has some very odd split data.

How cool would it be for him to run into 1st for his age group and then maybe get a top 10 finish. AWESOME

Yes, as he has only completed one loop of the bike.

Rebadged zipp. Also for the other poster it is two bottles bottom to bottom. With a computer mount above it. I follohim on instagram and he shares a lot of pictures and updates before the race on there. Seems like a very positive guy and always looking on the bright side of things hence the smiles in the pictures :) looks like he is having fun

running 8:30's right now with a projected finish of 10:10 which I feel is not going to qualify him. I hope his run picks up.

In 2 hours that could easily start becoming 10:45 projected finish.

Have you taken at look at the #1 person in his AG? I think after the bike Dave was in 1st.... not to start a twitch hunt... but here it goes.

Take a look at the split time for bib 1906 (shown as in 1st in 40-44 AG after the bike).

Now the guys that were behind him on the bike are running quite a bit faster and should pass him before mile 15-20.... we will see how their legs hold up.

We've already identified that as bad data and likely a guy DNF'ing after the first loop.

Isn't Lake Placid a downhill start to the run? If he's running 8:30s downhill, there will be a lot passing him later in the race. But maybe this is his plan. We will know more at the half marathon mark.

Anyone trying to go top 5 in the AG to qualify likely doesn't have that plan as it's astoundingly dumb. My friend Dusty went through at 7:51 and he's doing his first IM and is not in great run form.
