A different twist on the non-branded 70.3 is planned for next year: HFP Racing and PR Multisport have come together to bring triathletes a unique and challenging event – the GREAT LAKES TRIAD will feature 3 triathlons for a total of 70.3 miles all starting and finishing in beautiful downtown Vermilion, OH. Each triathlon will feature a .4 mile swim – 18.6 mile bike – 4.36 mile run. Participants will have 2 hours and 15 minutes to finish race #1 and race #2. For the final triathlon participants will have a total of 3 hours to complete the course and become an official finisher of the inaugural GREAT LAKES TRIAD. For those not quite up to the individual challenge, there will be a 3-person team division. The cutoff times remain the same for both individual and teams. The race is scheduled for September 15th, 2019. More details coming soon on HFP's website.

This was included in an email sent by HFP a couple of weeks ago. No additional details posted yet on their website. I plan to register. I haven't done a race this long in a decade, but my 59-year-old body is telling me this one could be a fun return to long distance tri.

Around May-June in Auburn CA there's a 70.3 called "The Worlds Toughest Half" and its brutal. Well into 5k+ft of gain on the bike and 2k+ft of gain for the run that's a mix of road/single track.

Around the same time in Steamboat Springs CO there's a 70.3 called Tri The Boat that has quite a bit of climbing for both bike/run and around 7000ft above sea level adds an additional factor. I did that race two years ago and it was super warm and very exposed. I heard they mellowed the course out but not sure how true that is.

Pumpkinman, 70.3, September, Maine

Jeebus, I can't read.

I'm actually looking at Pumpkinman in 2019 since Rev3 doesn't own the race in Maine anymore.

Is the race and the area worth traveling to?

Let me start by saying I am an ambassador for the race so I'm a little biased. (I don't have a discount code yet, but I can find out when they will be issuing them.)

It's a pond swim. Wetsuit legal but no freezing Maine ocean, which may be a plus or a minus for you. The bike course is rolling, but nothing horrible. The run is pleasant, rural roads, mostly. Relay and aquabike at all distances, kids splash n' dash.

What makes this race special for me is the atmosphere (the community really gets behind it) and the post-race food. Thanksgiving dinner if you race the oly or the half. The RD is passionate about making it a great athlete experience.

As far as if you like the area... Depends what you're after! Fall is a beautiful time to visit New England. It's about an hour north of Boston, less than an hour south of Portland.

Here's a great write-up about it:

Too many people to reply to individually, this has been great. I've got a list of 60 different festivals events at the half distance or further in a excel spread sheet now. I'll keep track of this and when it slows down I'll post the whole list. Everyone's races have been added in with the URL that links to the site directly.

There is the Toughman in Cambridge, OH, which is part of the American Triple-T. But you can do the 70.3 on its own (if you are a wuss). The 70.3 is on June 2, 2019.

Thanks for the clarification, I saw it was just a long sprint distance now. Shame, Pigman is one of those famous events.

Lake George Half in the Adirondacks in upstate NY. The race is part of a weekend-long Tri festival that includes an Oly race the day prior to the half. You can also race both for the King George title. Beautiful course and great little town for a Tri-cation.
