I think you need to add that to your goals. Split them apart into 2 or even three

ex:
  1. Complete qualifier
  2. Get to Kona through 1 or lotto
  3. Crush Kona PR

Then at least you can claim some success at the end of the year if you hit some of them.....because I am sure that 365 days from now Renorider or Show Pony will pull up this thread to make us accountable to our goals :-)

Lifestyle Goals:
  • Be there for my wife and family when she gives birth to our 2nd child this year :)
  • Be happy.
  • Get back in shape (i.e. lose all of the weight I've put on this year by not working out and eating poorly).
  • Change eating habits for the better.

Performance Goals:
  • Increase FTP to 300 watts (I'm a big dude, so that's not THAT impressive)
  • Run 10K < 42 minutes
  • Qualify for Xterra Nationals
  • Half-IM < 5:15 (if I race one later in the year)

1.) Qualify for Navy Tri, then World Military Games

2.) Top 10 at AG Nationals

3.) Qualify for 70.3 World Champs at Ireland 70.3

To make those goals possible, I figure I need to get a solid swim season together and move from MOP to FOP out of the water. Build on the improving bike from last year. Finish it all off with a smoother bike-to-run transition.

I'll keep it simple:

1) First and foremost: Stick to the training plan! (hopefully that will make the others possible)

2) Go sub 5:45 for a HIM

3) Finish my first full IM (no time goal for my first one yet, might set one closer to the race date though)

(and it'd be nice to drop 10 lbs somewhere in there, cause I'd consider that being down to my ideal race weight)

Here are my goals.

1. Complete 10 sprint tris in 2011
2. Run a sub 21 minute 5k
3. Place in the top 5 for my AG at the Pumpkinmann
4. Get my body weight below 170

The most important part is to have fun doing all these goals!

Thanks!

Hm, with no experience other than my first sprint tri last year, hard to formulate goal times. I would like to do:

My first Olympic Tri (s)
My first HIM
Swim 28 or so for 1500 (right now easy 1K swims are 24 ;-)
Place in my age group in some of the races I do. (55-59)
Run a 6 minute mile again. Several in fact

1) get to sub-150# for A races
2) increase run volume without injury (currently working with a PT to iron out inbalances that have led to multiple right knee injuries)
3) Finish Timberman top-5% in AG, and if the weather is perfect again like this year go 4:40 or better
4) Top 10 in Lord of the Flies (weekend with TT Friday, International Sat, Sprint Sun)
5) get serious about bike racing--in other words, GET SOME ROAD RACES ON THE CALENDAR THIS YEAR!

>> Sub-5:00 70.3 (First one will be Texas 70.3 and I'd have a good shot at it if the wind is cooperative)

>> Sub-11:00 at IMTX (unless it's 95 degrees out and then all bets are off)

>> Top 10 AG at a local olympic race

>> Stay injury free

Major 2011 Objectives:
- Canadian Triple Ski Challenge [CSM-Gold (160km) + Gatineau Loppet Classic (53km) & Skate (53km)]
- Around The Bay 30km < 2:35
- Glass City (Toledo) Marathon < 3:45 (Qualify Boston)
- Musselman HIM < 6h
- IMC < 13h

That's a nice mix of sports ;-)
Love the Around the Bay race, did it several times, including the 100th. A race older than Boston, but still low key.

1. Have more fun playing outside
- Do more local races just for the atmosphere
- More training rides with the boys
- Organize some specialized training days and weekend camps

2. Be extremely fit when turning 40 on July 31
- Actually follow the nutrition plan I spent many hours creating. No magic, just taking the time to shop and prepare real food
- Minimum 10 hours/wk of any kind of consistent training
- Improve general strength and flexibilty for all activities: multisport, skiing, climbing
- 169.99 lbs by IM Switzerland on July 10
- a sub 3:00 marathon sometime in 2011
- IM Switzerland in...i dunno...sub 11:00 sounds OK for now

Maybe putting "pen to paper" (so to speak...) will help to achieve this year's goals. First is to stay healthy and not repeat last year's troubles: two leg injuries in the spring, very sick but still competed @ St. Anthony's (big mistake) and finally surgery in October for a serious impingment in my left shoulder that bothered me all year (one of the worst the Ortho said she had ever seen). For the coming year: win A/G in both the Aquathlon and Sprint tri's at Nationals and regain my USAT ranking score from 2009 (Dropped over 3 points from 2009 to 2010) At 66 years old in 2011, it just doesn't get any easier (just slower!)...

.

Remember Luddites are people too...
