Sport related goals only (I have a number of goals related to family/work etc., not relevant to this forum):

1. Complete my first 1/2 IM at St. Croix on 5/1/11. Goal is 5:25 (very aggressive time for my ability, given the difficult course and lack of experience).
2. Qualify at sprint nationals in August. (not exactly the same, but a nice bonus, 3d place AG @ long course duathlon nationals, qualified for worlds).
3. 20 MMP @ 300 by 5/1 (Done! 20 minutes @ 303 watts 3/17/11)
4. <19 5k.
5. Break 1 hour in 40k TT at the Beach this year (60:15 in 2010).
6. Never forget that all of this is supposed to be fun (not sure how that squares with riding the trainer in the basement but that is the goal)!

I have very simple goals for 2011 (as it relates to triathlons):

  • Continue rehab on my Achilles and steadily, but slowly, increase mileage (currently @ 3 mile runs / 9 miles per week)
  • Complete the OLY distance tri in Pleasant Prairie, WI.

That's about it. Almost 2 years of rehabbng my Achilles and finally seem to be headed in the right direction. No performance goals at this point, simply because I have no idea how my Achilles will respond with the continued training. I just want to complete the distance.

My dream goal would be to complete a HIM, but I gotta be realistic. I don't think I can get to that kind of run mileage this year.

I had a pretty successful 2010, trained pretty consistently, lost weight and posted personal bests in every race. So for 2011

1. Continue to lose weight
2. Beat my times from last year in the same races
3. Strength/Core training 2x a week (not to start a debate but this one should help me w/ weight loss)
4. Beat my mileage totals from last year.
5. Survive planning a wedding and get married.

Pretty simple goals, except for number 5 maybe.

Ok, It's a new year, I've had a few beers (full disclosure) and I am setting the bar high (delusions of grandeur?). The biggest challenge for me is to overcome a current knee injury, loose weight, and then to be fairly injury free this year. Some of these goals are carryovers from this year's goals. I do have a variety of Geezer 56 YO AG goals, but (except for the first one), they tend to be bike or run oriented.

0) Learn to swim good enough (48 min or faster swim leg) to do a somewhat competitive 70.3 distance Tri (current capability is to avoid drowning)
1) Top 3 AG Short Course Duathlon Nationals (successful at this for LC DU Nationals in 2010)

2) Top 5 Short Course Duathlon Worlds
3) Top 3 AG Long Course Duathlon Worlds
4) 58 min 40k ITT
5) 13:59 10k ITT
6) 4:59 1500 meter run (5:09 in 2008)
7) 3:11:59 Marathon (3:19:02 in 2010 at NYM)
8) AG Win of Air Force and Prairie Fire 1/2 Marathons (Repeat of 2010 wins)
9) Podium Finish in Houston TX Senior Oly Nationals Cycle Road Race and 5k and 10k ITT
10) Podium Finish in Houston TX Senior Oly in 10k Running Road Race
11) 25+ pullups (as an indication of a successful surgery, normally work up to ~35 pullups but am coming off shoulder reconstruction surgery)

Dev,
I see you are heading back to Mooseman. After last years race with my family standing around unprotected during incredible downpours during the race, I swore I would never do Mooseman again. Well, I am now thinking of doing Mooseman again, this time however, without dragging my family along. Need to get my power to weight ratio up though, and after this past week of Holiday cheer that number in the denominator just got a whole lot bigger :-).

Goal for 2011- First full tri season for me, but I'm pumped!

Sub 16 5k for the first time in 4 years

Sub 1:05 for 40k(current is ~1:10)

Beat all of my splits at Shoreline Tri (0.5/15.7/4), impress friends and co-workers (ha)

Sub 2:10 for Olympic Distance

Sub 4:55 for my first HIM (Big George HIM in Sept, anyone else going?)

Biggest goal of all: STAY HEALTHY! No unplanned breaks, no skipping workouts because of injury, no skipping yardage because I'm bored, no skipping weight room because I ran out of time before work, no forgetting to stretch and foam roll after EVERY run, no skipping plyos and drills! Rock Solid training. Build a base I don't feel silly trying to race off of.

Goals, in no particular order:

Run sub-40 for a 10k
Run sub-1:30 half Marathon
Upgrade to cat 3 road racing
Try track cycling
Rock climb ~5.12
Do a handstand pushup (probably the closest goal to a pipe dream here, but hey)
Don't eat food from vending machines (specifically, the peanutbutter m&m's at school, don't seem to have a problem with anything/anywhere else)
Control my depression

No tri's on there as I don't know where I'm going to be come may, so I didn't want to sign up for anything far in advance. Also, swimming may get thrown under the bus to accommodate the other stuff.

No thought required...ever since I first saw the race announced I've had a goal to go top 10 (AG) @ ITU worlds on the Silverman course in NV.

Need to qualify first, and being the sucker for punishment that I am, I should just copy/paste last year's post cos I didn't get it done (podium @ NZ long course nats) and it still f*cks me off. Thats on January 8th...hopefully next year will go quicker than this one.

Update (and massive drive-by-gloat):

Well I got it done this year...had one of those near-perfect days and won my AG by 5 mins. Other smaller goals achieved yesterday:

- a national championship
- a sub 4:15 half
- a full set of wins (AG) in sprint, oly, IM and now HIM distances

See y'all in November :)

Funny thing, I hadn't posted my 2011 goals mostly cuz I didn't hit *any* of my 2010 goals which were:
"1. BQ at Chicago in Oct (I need 3:45).
2. 1:45 or better 1/2marathon at Austin in Feb to give me a fighting chance at #1 above (current PR is 1:46:56).
3. Sub 45min 10k (current PR is 46:30).
4. Sub 22min 5k (current PR is 23:05).
5. Improve on my 2009 1/2IM results by taking at least 10min off which ever race I end up doing in 2010.
6. Sub 2:45 for Olympic distance (not my best distance so this will be hard).
7. Sub 17:00 for timed 1000m free (LCM).
8. Run a 7 min mile. I honestly have no idea if this will be easy or hard to achieve. All I know is this is faster than my current 5k pace, and I don't really know how to suffer yet - this goal is designed to teach me how to push stupid hard. "

Then WHAMMO, Saturday, I nailed #7. After a year (2010) of almost no swimming. WTF?!?

So my 2011 racing/training goals are far less aggressive than 2010's:
1. time[IMNZ 2011] <= time[IMC 2009] - this totally doable.
2. do a marathon and see how close/far to BQ I actually am
3. Sub 1:45 for 1/2marathon
4. Sub 22 for 5k
5. Do an xterra sprint race
6. Depending on how #2 goes - register for Comrades 2012

Do an Olympic distance in July, go fast.
Do a HIM in September, go fast.

Other than that, just keep my training hard and try not to get injured. Maybe next season once I have a good baseline to go from I can try to really put the pedal to the metal.
