It's unlikely she'll be the main option for Team USA but stranger things have happened.
To me, what is even more impressive is this course and these conditions did not play to her strengths. She is not as good of a bike handler as the Euros and is not used to rain and wet roads, yet, she completely destroyed everyone. She just needs to stay healthy for the next year.

Geez that was an impressive ride. Great day for the US riders when you add the men’s 2 and 3rd places

After what she did in CO and here today, it's obvious her form is outstanding... like, a level above. If it was a climbing course or a sprinter course she might be disadvantaged, but that's not the case. Lots of punchy climbs that seem like they would favor someone with a big engine. Who do you think the main option would be for USA?

I'm guessing Chloe will have the freedom to try and get away by herself or with a small group, but if that comes back together, they're all in for Coryn. The finish suits her well. The problem for Chloe is I doubt anyone will be willing to work with her knowing full well she can just ride anyone off her wheel.

You're probably right. Ideally there would be a significant climb late in the race where she could get away solo, but I don't see any on the course. Haven't analyzed it in detail though... elevation maps are pretty useless; need grade and distance.

Aren't there riders that would be willing to work with her in a break to have a chance at a podium? Many would consider that a big success. At any rate, Chloe in a break is a good setup for Coryn if it fails.

The US certainly has cards to play. They can absolutely dictate the tactics in this race by sending Chloe forward, and Coryn can just sit back and conserve for the end if it comes down to a sprint. I'd love to see Coryn get the jersey. She's a classy young woman and well deserving. On the other hand, another double for Chloe would be epic.

A fit and confident Chloe is a superlative bike handler. The first time I saw her race she lapped the field at the Snake Alley crit. That race is all downhill bike handling.

As Jim said, I think Coryn is the obvious first option. I would expect Team USA to send a rider in the opening break then possibly have Chloe try to bridge up in the last 10-15k and maybe get some help from the teammate to go off the front. If that doesn't work then they go all in on Coryn for the sprint.

Full disclosure, I work with Chloe on marketing partnerships, but we don't talk race strategy. That's left to people much smarter than me ;-)

y

She pretty much seems to be the Van der Poel of women's cycling. He don't need no stinking lead out!

Seriously though I don't how well she sprints, but she seems to have a gear nobody else has at the moment. It wouldn't surprise me to see her get a gap and just leave everybody behind on the last lap.

Yep, this is a classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJwJV33Z5As

I've been waiting to see how she would do compared to the Dutch girls on the road, and now we know. A road race is a different beast but she's got the potential to outdo Cancellara on the road and dominate endurance events on the track for the next fifteen years or so.

Archibald rode well, perhaps inspired by Chloe yesterday. Lots of firepower in this race, wish my saddle sores were gone by now so I could be riding the trainer while watching this and getting inspired.

Also Dennis just started, I didn't notice whether he changed his equipment

Looks like he's on a de-badged BMC Time Machine.

I guess Dennis has vindicated himself, but I still have a hard time believing his sponsor equipment was that deficient.

Supremely talented; he's just a royal head case...

---------------------

also, that behavior by Roglic is a bit unseemly, essentially just drafting Dennis after being caught. Thankfully it didn't affect the podium results (it couldn't have, since to be caught means he coughed up 3 minutes to the winner)

Hardly, he showed he’s best at the “individual” part of a team sport but that’s it. There’s nothing I’ve read that makes me feel bad for the guy or cheer for him.

Certainly he is a disaster for his trade team. Makes all his kit and equipment sponsors look really bad. At this point I think Bahrain Merida would have been happy to pay twice as much not to have hired him!

So who will hire him?

Lemme guess, average out to be ~330W, perhaps 350W normalized?
I think she can give many pro male cyclists a good run for their money in the ITT

PS. that's really not race data without power numbers... Misleading advertising...

Craddock has power anyway: https://www.strava.com/activities/2738920050

397W at 150lbs. Amazed at what these lightweight riders can put out. I met him a few years back when was here for a few weeks doing altitude training prior to ToC. Looked like a skinny 16 year old, but man can he fly!
