Hope things go well for her and that she isn't in too much pain. On the side, do you have pet insurance? We got a policy for our girl when she was a pup and it paid off that first year. Talked our neice into it and helped her with a $4000 vet bill. Pups and older dogs is when it pays to have it. Best wishes.

Not good. They're keeping her overnight and starting IV therapy.

They said her kidney failure is caused by a bacteria (or virus? i think bacteria) that is most commonly caught by either drinking antifreeze (highly doubtful) or from playing with dead things (she killed a bird and a possum not too long ago).

They also told us that it's communicable not just to other dogs, but to humans. So I'm taking in my blue heeler to get checked and am going to talk to my doctor about the need to get me and mine checked for this as well.

I'd guess the vet meant the failure was either due to antifreeze or to a virus/bacteria. Could he have indicated it might be Leptospirosis? If so, many dogs respond well to antibiotics + iv fluids.

My thoughts are with you and your dogs. One of my dogs had parvo and it's so hard to see them sick. Mine recovered and I hope yours do as well.

Keep the faith. We had a cat that went into kidney failure (I was on kidney dialysis myself at the time). Everyone told me to euthanize him. I held out and he totally recovered and lived a healthy 5 more years.

I'm sorry. My 12 y/o dog has been very sick. I could not eat and i cried all day. It turns out he had a tick-borne disease (we think) which we were able to treat with antibiotics. He is now better than ever.

I feel so bad for you. It is very difficult to watch our pets suffer. I will think of you today and hope all goes well.
