I bought an Orbea Ordu back in April and I absolutely love it. I got the M30iLTD. Retails for about 9.7K CDN so high end of your price range in USD.

The shifting is great for being 105 and it is very fast. My only caution would be that it “fits” very narrow.
I had a Speed Concept before and I felt slightly more comfortable on it having wider shoulders than most, but I got my fit dialed in and am use to it now. I am going 3-5 km/h faster at same wattage than the Trek.

Hope this helps. I am super happy with my purchase.

that would be somewhere around half an hour faster over 112 miles. sounds insane

Ya. I haven’t done a 112M ride yet, but I took off 12:30 minutes on my last 70.3.

This says a lot more about your fit than the bike, especially the frame (although I suspect it's actually a power meter difference). 3-5kph is like a 50w+ difference, or like a 0.40 change in CdA. It's basically the difference between riding a climbing position on the tops of the bars vs. tight aero position. You could literally carry your old frame sideways like a backpack and not expect a 3-5kph difference.

Most modern aero frames are within a few watts of each other. FWIW at 40.0kph a 10w faster frame goes 40.5kph. 40kph->45kph needs a wattage difference of ~90w.

If you dont mind rim brakes. Giant Trinity probably has the best speed to cost ratio.
Yes its a little old now, but well proven with world champs wins in cycling TT's and Ironman.

Thanks, but part of the reason for upgrading would to standardize the quiver to all disc brakes

(and getting rid of this ugly matte black paint on my canyon)

Just curious as to what your opposition to Canyon is since you're coming from one? I'm in the market for a bike in a similar price range (crashed my P2 in Milwaukee 2 days before Nationals this year and it's totaled). FWIW Transition Tri was really interested in building up a P Series frame for me as getting a new 58cm bike in stock is going to take a very long time and will likely require paying for it months in advance of it showing up in store.

Aesthetics mostly. And they aren't the value buy anymore. And after customizing the build you definitely aren't saving any money

Fair enough! I still think it's insane that mid level bikes are this expensive now but every build I've priced that would match what I came from comes out to this much. Good luck with your search!

Have you considered the Felt IA Advanced 105 for ~$3.5k.. that leaves you with enough to upgrade wheels & groupset
