Can we just say the sport is both World Triathlon, Ironman and all the other organisations that contribute to the sport? No need to say it's only this or that.
Just like it would be silly to minimise the contribution of IM to the sport, it would be silly to minimise the contribution of national federations and the work they do, including the Olympic sport and all the money (some public, some private), races, athlete development, etc, that come with it.
Going back to the topic of IM races, I read this article today, I thought there were some interesting points for discussion
