He looks cramped because his back isn’t a flat back it’s not that he’s actually cramped. Which is causing him to look lower in the front than he probably is.

It’s not too bad really I used to ride pretty low. The problem normally is generating power with your hip angle being so closed. If you can’t do that you might as well forget it. But this was also way before wind tunnel testing became pretty normal for people. So if it worked it worked.
