Reach limited on slammed p5-6 54. Went with p5x in L, but M might have worked too.

Hi All. I'm looking at possibly going to the P5x from P5six. Can anyone provide details on their frame size based on their fit geometry? I think I am falling between M and L and I was hoping to see where others landed.

Just use the P5X fit guide on cervelo site.
Very detailed and informs you of riser post and seatpost requirements also.

Then, go with the smallest one you fit.

The bikes have huge ranges of fit.

Noticed that cervelo doesn't list the p5x in the drop-down on their website anymore. Thoughts?

I noticed this as well. I can still get a frame set. Think they are drawing down stock and going with p3x for the 2019/2020 season...

Do you know how much weight the dash seatpost/saddle combo saves and also switcing from the trp brakes?

Dash combo saved around 400g, compared to sitero. So near 450-500g if on standard ism I'd expect.
May vary depending on seatpost height/spec (I got the shortest one).

I also lost another 300g ish when I changed pads, bars & brakes.
Not sure how much of that was the brakes, but I'd expect the majority of it.

So probably around the 600g if going combo and sram hydraulic brakes.
Hope this helps.

I had also heard a variety of viewpoints. I can tell you from my own windtunnel testing that removing the speedbox is faster than having it in place by about 2 watts, which is not what I would have expected. Placing a regular round bottle there is about the same as having the speedbox in place. Placing an elite aero bottle there is the fastest combination that I tried, saving about another 2-4 watts. So the difference between speedbox and aero bottle is up to 6 watts. These numbers are just from memory as I don`t have the full report yet but will post data when I get it.

Hi Behan,

Did you get the aero results you mentioned?

Appreciate if you could share any info as planning next IM setup and it was surprising that the speed box tested slower than without or up to 6w slower vs elite aero bottle.

Weighing up pros of aero vs hydration plan and which bottle setup to use.
Leaning towards BTA, behind saddle and then I guess elite aero on downtube going on your data.

Anything else you've learned worth mentioning?

Cheers.

Hi All,

Thought i would post this and see if anyone has had a similar experience.

I bought the frame 2nd hand about 2 years with the intention to use it for some ironman races. Then covid hit and everything was shut down and the bike sat in my spare room for close to 18 months. Now with the hope of racing in 2021, I took my local shop bike to be tuned and techs noticed two small cracks in the area where the rear disc brake mounts to the frame...sadly I never picked this up.

As I'm the 2nd owner of the frame, it's not covered by a warranty so a repair is my only option. My major concern is that the cracks seem to be in the alloy part which is bonded to the frame and I'm not sure how easy it is to fix. My hope is that the cracks could be patched and welded, however I'm sure it's not that simple.

I have attached an image to give a better idea. Has anyone had something similar happen? I'm assuming the material bonded to the frame is alloy so hopefully to fix is easy........

The caliper is all down force onto that stay. Was the bolt ever removed/replaced?

there is no welding of that - too hot. Options are to a) Use and monitor the size. b) If growing, I'd be tempted to do a dental-style repair using just a JBWeld - prepped (includes drilling super small anchor holes) then built up to suit. JB Weld is pretty tough stuff. Or check with a frame repair place.

I repaired a cracked auto wheel once like this, held up great.. PS: Will check my frame on the weekend.

Disassemble the rear caliper and sand cracked area whether it is real crack or just a damage on paint.

If it is crack it is almost impossible to fix it with JB weld or any adhesive for CFRP. That area has to endure severe torsional force due to the rear brake. I do not recommend to ride it until proper diagnosis and treatment is done.

Stay home, stay healthy.

Ive sent some images to Cervelo so we'll see where it goes. I dont have much faith that they will action anything but we'll see. If that fails then i will look at some other solutions....maybe i just use my front brake only in the future :-)

Even if cervelo refuse to do some cs things, there're still some chances that you can save it.
Google for CFRP repair shop. If reinforcement is firmly done on the cracked place, I mean with proper resin and carbon fiber sheats, there will be no future problem. But maybe 40~80g can be added to secure user safety.

Stay home, stay healthy.

Despite some emails back and forth with Cervelo yesterday, they are refusing to do anything. A bit of background to this which will give some context. I got this frame of a Cervelo sponsored rider who only use it a few times. He then changed sponsors and sold me the frame. So even though he used it for a few ironman’s and the bike is in mint condition, its still not covered by a warranty.

Below is the standard BS customer service email -

"This is correct, this is an aluminum piece bonded to the carbon frame. Given a possible fix, we recommend you try reaching out to Calfee to see if they will repair this for you. Please note Calfee is not an authorized repair specialist, so further guidance will have to come from them and at their discretion.
That being said, we do not recommend this piece be repaired unfortunately, should you pursue this option, you are doing so at your own risk with the understanding Cervélo does not recommend this as a solution and is not responsible for failure or injury to your person and or equipment.
We apologize we are not able to help further. Should you have any other questions do not hesitate to reach out."

I replied and called out this BS. They acknowledge there’s an issue, suggested a repairer and then recommend that I don’t get it fixed. After this i got the CS manager emailing me, justifying the policies around their warranty. I wasn’t even offered a new frame at discounted rate like other brands offer.

Rant over – I am going to take it to very reputable guy in Vancouver to look at. He thinks he can do something but is not quite sure. As it’s the alloy part thats bonded to the frame, repairers are very skeptical about touching it due to them not knowing anything about this specific piece. I guess I have nothing to loose.

If it doesn’t work then I’ll do my scheduled 70.3’s this year on my MTB (out of spite) and get the new Trek SC in 2022

UPDATE: I found a guy in Nth Vancouver that has done a brilliant job at repairing the frame. I would go as far as saying that it looks better than before. For my fellow Vancouverites with cracked frames, go to
https://www.robertscomposites.com/home-2 the best in the business

Now i just need to bordered to open and i will be able to get some races in this year!

Long shot here, but does anyone have a stem cover and access cap that they would like to sell? My new p3x came without these and cervelo is back ordered. Thanks!
