I have a softride as well and use the x-lab saddlewing. I have launched 2 bottles when my cages broke (the profile e-cage). Put some standard issue alloy cages on and no launches or broken cages yet. One more thing close down the cage opening if you can, like on an alloy age.

Re: Is there a non launching bottle cage? [d.w.weston]

I launch a lot of bottles because I ride a rigid MTB off-road fairly aggressively. I recommend avoiding the carbon/plastic solutions (e.g. Profile and Rib cages) because they're not readily adjustable and I've found them no better than average for bottle retention. Instead I've had very good luck with the King Cages (http://www.kingcage.com). I lost only one bottle at a 24 hour MTB race at Whistler (rocks and roots!) and that was before I tightened the opening. I went with the new Iris cage since it's sexy.
