The problem with that is that in Japan video games are even more popular than they are in the US. And you don't see this happening in Japan.

The issue isn't video games. The issue isn't drugs. The issue isn't mental illness. The issue isn't unlocked doors. The issue isn't that there aren't enough people with guns to stop the bad guys with guns.

The issue is that the US has a culture of guns and gun violence and you refuse to do anything meaningful about it.

To be honest, the only thing that will finally move this country to shift away from the gun culture is a VIDEO of a classroom full of small kids being shredded by an AR-15. The horror of what really goes on in these incidents is completely sanitized by the time we read about it.

My brother and his merry band of Facebook idiots were suggesting something similar. That in some way this was planned by the Dems and that the timing of this with the new gun legislation was “too coincidental.”

I guess he subscribes to her newsletter. Fuck them all. There are innocent people who just died needlessly at a 4th July parade, and people want to turn it into a political conspiracy theory. What’s wrong with people?

What is a culture of gun violence, is it a love of shooting things in real life? I mean I think kids globally enjoy shooting things virtually. The gaming chart above demonstrates that. I’m not sure all these mass murderers had vast experience shooting guns in real life.

As such I would suggest it’s as simple as ease of access commercially and consequently, the proliferation in the general public which compounds the accessibility.

The advertising of guns, the targeted advertising of guns. The worshipping of guns. The “you needs gun to be safe” bullshit that is peddled. There’s so much to it you can’t even put it into words.

And yes on top of all that, the ease of access.

This dude is the prime example of someone who should have been disqualified from owning guns. There were 2 instances that should have kept him from being granted access: the attempted suicide & the police response to his wanting to "kill everyone". Depends on the type of target shooting. If doing untimed bench rest shooting, "assault rifles" are not the greatest. Specialized bolt-action rifles are the preference. Modified bolt action hunting rifles are probably also preferable. (and I'm including the AR-15 for the sake of argument even though many would argue it's not an assault rifle.)

If doing silhouette shooting from a standing or crouching position, then something like an AR-15 is quite good, and closes the gap a lot. Particularly if it's timed shooting. Light weight, etc.

(I don't have a ton of experience, but did semi-competitive target shooting, including with an AR-15, as a teenager). Even at the time I wasn't a fan of the AR. My dad was an AR-15 fetishist. Though he fought in Vietnam and then went into the FBI right after, he didn't get the AR until his Rush Limbaugh phase took hold.

People should be able to own guns unless it is deemed that they shouldn't.

We already have some 'until' in our gun ownership. We need a lot more and better 'untils' in our gun ownership, which is the 'deemed that they should' part.

I am not opposed to the things listed in your post. But I'm not a lawyer or a judge (& certainly not a Supreme Court Justice) so my opinions are just that.....my opinions.

But you (not you specifically but the general "you") can't say "people (specifically US citizens) are not allowed to own guns until ____________ (insert specifics here)" because the bottom line is the Constitution says people are allowed to own guns.
