Yes, by all means let's sanitize the reality of what happened to avoid offending people's sensitivities.

Please show me where he indicated that he wanted to sanitize the reality of what happened.

I guess in order to avoid sanitizing the reality, we should all see the explicit photos of the dead bodies whenever there is a shooting.

Yes, we absolutely should.

The issue isn't video games. The issue isn't drugs. The issue isn't mental illness. The issue isn't unlocked doors. The issue isn't that there aren't enough people with guns to stop the bad guys with guns.

The issue is that the US has a culture of guns and gun violence and you refuse to do anything meaningful about it.

To be honest, the only thing that will finally move this country to shift away from the gun culture is a VIDEO of a classroom full of small kids being shredded by an AR-15. The horror of what really goes on in these incidents is completely sanitized by the time we read about it.

My brother and his merry band of Facebook idiots were suggesting something similar. That in some way this was planned by the Dems and that the timing of this with the new gun legislation was “too coincidental.”

I guess he subscribes to her newsletter. Fuck them all. There are innocent people who just died needlessly at a 4th July parade, and people want to turn it into a political conspiracy theory. What’s wrong with people?

"MAGA month"?

Of course she will be in Congress as long as she wants. The GOP isn't turning on her. They love her out there lighting the fires.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

What is a culture of gun violence, is it a love of shooting things in real life? I mean I think kids globally enjoy shooting things virtually. The gaming chart above demonstrates that. I’m not sure all these mass murderers had vast experience shooting guns in real life.

As such I would suggest it’s as simple as ease of access commercially and consequently, the proliferation in the general public which compounds the accessibility.

The advertising of guns, the targeted advertising of guns. The worshipping of guns. The “you needs gun to be safe” bullshit that is peddled. There’s so much to it you can’t even put it into words.

And yes on top of all that, the ease of access.

How does Danny Hart sit down with balls that big?

I would say this is the price of a system that doesn't work. People should be able to own guns unless it is deemed that they shouldn't. This dude is the prime example of someone who should have been disqualified from owning guns. There were 2 instances that should have kept him from being granted access: the attempted suicide & the police response to his wanting to "kill everyone". How in the hell did he make it through the process. Its the process that needs to be fixed,

Yes, but Republicans are against national Red Flag laws and many red states are against them too. Why? Because they are more worried about a borderline risk case being denied access to guns than they are worried about mass shootings. That’s just a fact.

The constant theme of shooting and killing, in my opinion, can desensitize the reality of it.

Unrelated to that thought, a coworker bought an assault rifle. When I asked why, he said just to take to the range.

Our new house is about 3 miles from a gun range. I hear assault rifles all the time. When purchased, we had no idea about the gun range.

If you're target shooting, isn't it more challenging to use a rifle than an assault gun? Might as well have hand grenades readily available.

Dude, it’s the guns. They are being marketed and trafficked to children, who are in turn being radicalized and incited.

Same as cigarettes, same as cars, same as anything.

Yep, it's the guns.

Depends on the type of target shooting. If doing untimed bench rest shooting, "assault rifles" are not the greatest. Specialized bolt-action rifles are the preference. Modified bolt action hunting rifles are probably also preferable. (and I'm including the AR-15 for the sake of argument even though many would argue it's not an assault rifle.)

If doing silhouette shooting from a standing or crouching position, then something like an AR-15 is quite good, and closes the gap a lot. Particularly if it's timed shooting. Light weight, etc.

(I don't have a ton of experience, but did semi-competitive target shooting, including with an AR-15, as a teenager). Even at the time I wasn't a fan of the AR. My dad was an AR-15 fetishist. Though he fought in Vietnam and then went into the FBI right after, he didn't get the AR until his Rush Limbaugh phase took hold.

I think you have this backwards. People should not be allowed to own guns until it is deemed that they should. The ease of access to guns of any type is a major issue in our gun problem.

Are you suggesting that the Constitution forbids gun permits, safety classes, background checks, mental health screenings, and a bunch of other potential pre-requisites for gun ownership?

You wrote "......people should not be allowed to own guns....."

I countered with the fact that The Constitution (in the Bill of Rights) says they are allowed.........

Close. I wrote, ".....people should not be allowed to own guns UNTIL.....", to which you countered with the Constitution. According to your counter, the Constitution forbids the "until"? We already have some 'until' in our gun ownership. We need a lot more and better 'untils' in our gun ownership, which is the 'deemed that they should' part.

But the bold part is not what the Constitution (Bill of Rights) says. The 2nd amendment allows people to own guns.

The second amendment does not say, “individuals will have the right to own any weapon they want at any age and under any circumstances.”

I am not opposed to the things listed in your post. But I'm not a lawyer or a judge (& certainly not a Supreme Court Justice) so my opinions are just that.....my opinions.

But you (not you specifically but the general "you") can't say "people (specifically US citizens) are not allowed to own guns until ____________ (insert specifics here)" because the bottom line is the Constitution says people are allowed to own guns.

Clearly, that is not how the constitution is legally interpreted, as many restrictions are in place right now regarding who can own guns, and what type of guns may be owned.
