I don't use a coach so I'm asking the next best thing, ST. I had to transfer from IMTX to IMFL this year for personal reasons, missed IMGC 70.3 because of new job and now here is IMFL this weekend.
Oct. 18th my kids gave me a Upper Respiratory Infection. (In 2017 I got the same thing 2 weeks before the race and ended up dealing with an intense infection for 5 weeks after I attempted to race...think +7 hour marathon). I do feel like I am over it now with only a dry throat however I pinched a nerve locking my back up Oct. 22nd. Today was the first day of full range of pain free motion after every type of therapy you can think of. My fitness has taken a huge hit. My weekly training hours have gone;
11, 14, 11, 11, 9, 9, 11, 13, 14, (SICK) 7, 6, 6.5(including 1.5 hours of walking my run loop), Race Week
Last long run was 23 miles Oct. 6th
Last long bike was 101 miles on the indoor trainer Oct. 2nd.
Last long swim 4500 yards Oct. 11th. Really no swimming since.
Only completed 4 x 60 min trainer rides since Oct. 16th.
3 runs during same time ranging from 20-60 min
really no swimming since back/neck were locked up. 60 minutes of kicking with snorkel last week.
I did an hour on the trainer yesterday at goal RP and my HR was about 15-20 beats higher than normal. I feel tired still but I have the rest of the week to keep recovering.
Should I go race or sit on the beach and drink my shitty season away? Is the hay in the barn? I have ZERO interest in walking a marathon to finish but my wife thinks I should race.
Thanks in Advance
Tim
