Microshift brings SRAM Eagle to TT bikes?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this should enable the 1x crowd to go 12sp on the TT bike?

Yes. With a cassette that large I won't need a disc wheel.

No, I don't. And I'm happy to keep my FD as well. I did not realize that 10-50 is the only option for eagle?

The rub is the cassette spread. 10-50 is just too wide. 1x12 with something along the lines of an 11-36, 11-38, or 11-40 would be ideal especially if the lower ten gears were spaced like an 11-28 10 speed cassette. SRAM seems to have it in for the front derailleur so perhaps we’ll see something from them early next year. There’s a whisper that eTap 1x12 is imminent.

As far as I know, the options are 10-50 with the Xd driver on Eagle GX and up, or 11-50 on NX (which is Shimano freehub compatible, and also weighs a ton). There "might" be something different available from Sunrace, eThirteen, or the other boutique manufacturers.

If you want maximum versatility it's not that bad. Sure a more compact and shimano freehub compatible would be nice. For 98% of road riding a 11-42 12 speed would be my go to everything cassette.

Some people also train on their bikes. And sometimes it's fun to train in the mountains.

I have Sram Eagle 10-50 on my mountain bike and its shifting is so unrefined compared to Campy and Shimano I am glad to leave it to one bike now.

The cadence changes are almost too much for MTN biking, it would make me insane if it were on a TT bike.

With a 46front ring, that’s the equivalent of an 11-39 on a 36/50 front ring combo.

You can do it if you want, I suppose.

This is a terrible idea for multiple reasons. Is it April 1 already?

And Shimano now has 12s XTR (new cassette body though). So that might be coming to their road range soonish.

My intuition is that Shimano will debut 12 speed (perhaps both 1x and 2x) in Dura Ace trim at next year's TdF in Dura Ace trim and we won't actually see it in shops until late 2019.
