Season 1 had plenty of moments of levity. That trailer makes it look like the show's writers are moving in a much darker direction...I'm in.

Wow. S2, E1 is darker. New character really has got down the role of female attorney.

Not only in mood but filming as well. Every scene it seems is in the dark. Tried to watch an episode this weekend on the covered patio, but couldn't see a thing that was happening. The truck driver messenger scene was the brightest if you can call it that.

Finished episode 1 last night. So how did killing Ash make it all right with the cartel that the hillbillies killed Del? I don't get it, are we going to find out they pinned Del's murder on Ash who had gone rogue or something?

Yeah her and the husband seem to be taking the honor culture of the South a little too much to heart.

Nothing I have said is integral to the plot. Despite the anti gun bullshit and the ridiculous wetsuit scene, it is a good series. Not the best, but worth the time.

Jason Bateman is awesome. But I cannot shake the feeling that Laura Linney is too old for him.

She is 5 years older than him according to IMDB. He was born in 69 and her in 64.

Yep, I know, which isn't much. But, Bateman is aging really well and looks younger than he is. Something about her mannerisms make her seem older. So, they do not seem to match age-wise.

Linney's character bugs me at times. One moment, she is an absolute train wreck and you want to smack her. The next, she is a criminal mastermind like when she called out the funeral home director and ended up buying the business. I love the criminal mastermind character. Cannot stand the head case.

You know what bugs me? Here is a show that is just packed with strong leading female characters -- Wendy Byrde, Charlotte Byrde, Ruth Langmore, Darlene Snell, Helen Mob-Lawyer, and Rachel -- and a guy who goes around on a high horse championing women's rights in other threads (e.g. Catwoman outfit) can see nothing other than a man seems to have married a woman older than him.

I have one episode left. Good season. Had to suspend disbelief a number of times but the drama is good.

My wife is 8 years older than me. We are a good match. Those two are not.

We started s2.

Ruth is the best. Darlene is just plain scary.

Only seen mob lawyer once. Cold......

Wendy, just a bit ambivalent about her. Somehow has no problem setting up one guy with a hooker to blackmail his wife but when a guy offs himself it's too much

Darlene and Ruth are consistent

I finished Season 2.

The actress that plays Ruth is the show standout, really good performance and scripting for her.

On the flip side, the daughter Charlotte's apparent only purpose in the show is to be a consistent brat and agitator to everything around her, no depth, no character arc. Only purpose is to create random drama in the show. It is very bothersome.

Only on Episode 6 of Season 2. Man this series is great!

I'm surprised I have never seen the actress that plays Ruth before. She is simply incredible. Seeing her crumble and be human after the encounter with the cartel was some amazing acting. She is the star.

I think Jason Bateman is simply incredible as well. He is great! I agree regarding Charlotte. I thought she was good in Season 1. I don't know what they are doing with her in Season 2. This isn't a knock on the actress, but, the character. It was like she was an afterthought in Season 2.

I agree with all the comments regarding Charlotte. However, I found she had one purpose: the dinner table conversation about the book was a great scene.

JSA, I don't think you are at that scene yet and I've tried not to spoil it.

Batemans wife is getting on my nerves

Rachel is good

Ruth's the best

Both kids annoy me

The cartel lawyer is great

Darlene is terrifying

Jacobs good

The fbi psycho is actually very good

Feel it's a bit like goliath 2.......very difficult to write a strong second season to such a strong first

I think just the opposite. That guy is horrible. He just isn't able to deliver a believable tough FBI badass role. I think it's bad casting. The whole gay/psycho/obsessed/drug dealing FBI agent thing is just plain weird.

I thought S2 of Ozark was as good as the first, maybe not quite as good, but I attribute that to in the first season, the whole storyline was new to us as an audience. You can't repeat that. Following seasons you kind of get the gist of the situation already, so there is no reveal along those lines. So accounting for that, I think S2 was pretty solid.

If they go for S3 I think to keep it interesting, they'll have to expand the story to a much higher level. It will lose some luster I think if they just rinse and repeat of S2, but with the casino as the background setting instead.

I did not like the character but reflecting upon it agree with Andrewmc. The character was believable in his own weird way. He was not a tough FBI badass, he was a really screwed up guy.

I don't think he's believable but who the hells believing they're distributing opium in bibles anyway

So my criteria is an actor who is making the most of the role and he is not annoying like batemans wife or daughter

Ha. Fair enough.. The boat/bible delivery thing was a pretty stupid concept all-round.

Speaking of, am I the only one that looked at the poppy field, and thought it was about 100x too small of a plot to provide any material supply of heroin that they seem to be depicting?

I also can see why their poppy field(s) have remained hidden for all these years, what with someone just being able to walk down a gravel road right into it, and you know, a massive big bright red splotch of a field that is visible to anyone flying a plane in the area.

But i'm willing to suspend my disbelief on those pieces.

She played a character in The Americans named Kimmie for a few seasons. She was very good in that role, too.

I can't recall ever hearing of anyone getting busted for growing poppies for opium. Whereas people get busted for pot all the time. Makes me think the logistics of poppy growing are a lot more challenging.
