Just don’t understand the socks. No need to screw with them. Plenty of comfortable-blister free-sockless shoe options available today.

Was it a requirement at Oceanside to wear a race belt on the bike? Looks like everyone had one on.

Maybe their shoe sponsors do no make a blister free shoe? Or like me the extra seconds is well worth the comfort.

Might be just me. I go sockless for all distances including fulls. In some cases the wrong sock can create more issues.

Quote:
Per Camp Pendleton's requirement: Athletes must wear their IRONMAN 70.3 issued bib number on the back, clearly visible at all times on the bike course.

5 seconds of insurance. Most decline that insurance on the bike and it’s not drastically different for the run.

Can you explain the lack of difference? On the bike, you're feet are relatively stable. On the run, every steps causes an impact with the ground and potential friction between the shoe and the foot.

Please share your list of comfortable-blister free-sockless shoe options.
I have my own list but I'd like to try some of your suggestions.

There’s still friction on the bike pedal downstroke similar to friction caused by your feet impacting the ground while running. To a lesser extent sure, but it’s friction nonetheless.

I’m in the market for some as my old Zoots were great for that (although I would still Wear socks for 70.3) but worn. What do you recommend?
Zoot Kiawe. Easy to source and at a great price point.

I'm with you I've always run sockless. Last year I did a 70.3 in a pair of kinvaras with no socks and had zero issues.
Besides I'm so slow and transition if I had to add socks I'd be there 10 minutes.

it's not like the run at all. one is no impact, the other is lots of impacts, more the farther the distance. every time one of those impacts happen it's an opportunity for your foot to slip inside your shoe just a little bit. this is where the blisters come from. socks provide a nice intermediate layer that prevents or greatly reduces the slipping, or moves the slipping to between the sock and the shoe instead of on your skin.

But if it is worth the 5 seconds of insurance, why not spend it in T1 instead of T2? Is there an aero penalty?
