Surely there's a neighbor kid that would practically pee down his leg for such an opportunity, no? Oh, what a sad generation.

As a kid, a guy with a bunch of cherry trees would pay us a bounty to shoot birds out of his trees. It wasn't considered sporting to use our pellet guns....too easy. So we used .22 pistols. We'd sit up in the trees, drink sodas, laugh at dumb stories, plot the loss of virtue of the various pretty girls in town, and my buddy's dog would gather our payroll at the base of our tree.

It was tough on the birds but certainly the referenced townie virtues survived unscathed. At least by us idiots.

Any chance you can borrow Jason's cat? Heck, he might even let you keep it.

We don't have any rodents living in our attic. Just sayin' ;-)

If I put our cats in the attic, my wife might make me live there too. It is not a pleasant place.

If Mrs Leddy would let me I'd stop at the SPCA on the way home and look for a purely evil hunter. She is adamantly against cats. I don't know what scared her as a child but it would be me or the cat.

When we moved in almost 2 years ago there were chipmunks every where outside. This summer a neighbors cat showed up and they are either in hiding or he has been busy. Rarely see them any more. There's a lot of hunters in our back yard. A couple of owls we can hear at night and hawks roaming around.

This would be a big project and what turned me off the critter control company I called. I'm going to try and do this over time but one thing the guy said was the slate on the roof is a problem since they obviously can go around looking for entry points. But got me thinking I'd rather put money toward taking the two big pine trees that are up near the front of the house. We have been back and forth on taking them down since we moved in. I'd like them gone for a number of reasons. Mrs. does not because they provide shade and privacy. We live across from a golf course so the view would be great with them gone. But they do provide shade in summer heat and there's a busy road between us and the course but we are set back enough it wouldn't bother me.

Regarding taking down the pine trees that provide shade. A few years ago I took down a large oak that was on the west side of the house. It was a mistake. That tree provided a lot of shade from the afternoon son. We live on a lake and have a lot of windows facing the west so we can see the lake. After taking down the tree I ended up needing to put up solar screens because of the heat.

That being said, I have taken down pine trees that are within falling distance of the house as they are a hazard and don't provide as much shade as the oak trees. Living in Florida, I didn't want a big pine tree to come down on the house during a hurricane. I did that 15 years ago when I built the house.

This past fall I ran a number of insurance claims in Florida where Hurricane Irma blew trees down on houses. It reminded me that my decision was a good one.

Listen to your wife. Keep the trees.

We took an oak down out back when we moved in because it was hanging over the house and I didn't like the way it was leaning toward home. I'd really like to take the pine down because it is right up against the house. Dumps needles all over roof, gutters and now I think what ever got in the attic uses it for a ladder.

It provides shade and some protection from the elements but it falling in a storm worries me. I feel like in big storms pine trees are the first to go down around us. If it was oak or any leaf tree I'd be more hesitant to remove. Not really a fan of pine trees.

In that case, get rid of it. I was assuming it was further back from the house. Tell your wife it was rotten.

I did see a hawk two weeks ago perched on a branch right outside the window. That was pretty cool. But I still want to take them out. They are about 10-15 feet from the house.

the neighbor used a 5 gallon bucket half filled with water and a layer of sunflower seeds on top to cover the water. The put a board as a ramp the critters could use to get to the seeds. 12 hours later 6 drowned chipmonks.

I suggested the chipper dipper initially. He turned it down as he doesn't want a bucket of water in his attic.

Showed exterminator where they were asking his thoughts on what to do. Turns out it’s a FAMILY of squirrels. Dammit

Going to buy a trap right now. Anyone have a recommendation for food

I'll loan you my cat. He'll pick off the babies first.

He'll also try to murder you in your sleep, but that's the price your wife will have to pay for a chipmunk-free home.

Cheaper route.. Chipper dipper.. 5 gallon pail, a small 2x4, water and some sunflower seeds.. https://hubpages.com/...ild-a-chipper-dipper

Had a problem with them burrowing under my pool. I got 10 of them suckers in a few hours.

Bucket is in attic and live trap. I’m not feeling confident with either.

Which will work ? Winner may get a squirrel pelt in the mail or jacket like I Tonya

If its squirrel and not a chipmunk, the squirrel may be large enough to escape the bucket. When I set my dipper up outside, I got squirrels. They just stood on the edge of the bucket and leaned down for the free seeds... Never had to jump in.

I'm hoping the little smaller ones go in there. When I was filling it up I thought it seemed like it could get out. Hopefully the big one will go in trap. But now I'm a little concerned about wet squirrel running around in attic.

I would remove the bucket if its squirrels. Chance they could tip it over.. I think the chance is slim but they are larger than the monks and it's prolly not gonna work on the squirrels.

When you say squirrels, how big are you talking about? We have mostly red squirrels here, which are pretty small. bigger than a chippy, but a lot smaller than the grey squirrels (aka furry rats) in other parts of the country
