The closest i have got is 17k kg. Width 2.3m which would work.

Its to lift ancient olive trees. I needed to know if it could be done. Apparently weight needs to be 4-5 times lifting weight..........

Not really.
Every excavator will have a safe working load that it can lift, so check that out.
May be able to get away with a smaller excavator than you think.

Also, what about a small crawler crane?

This one is only 750mm wide but can lift 2.82t @1.4m

I am told that old olives can weigh up to 4k kg and my problem is both access and space.

Access as they will have to cross septic and space as the drive is at max 2.4m wide

I actually inherited an olive grove in Croatia.
First planted in the early 1900's.

My cousins still harvest the olives and press the oil from that grove (plus the others that they own)
