"This is in large part why his responses and behavior in given situations is entirely predictable. He's hardwired for this behavior, and effectively incapable of change. It's possible we've had previous Presidents meet this criteria, though I think he lacks the impulse control and wisdom to keep it even remotely concealed. "

I would say all presidents. A rational person with a healthy ego avoids this kind of job. You have to be nuts to be president.

My breaking point came at the intersection of "Trump was God's appointed choice" and "Everyone who voted for Trump is a hillbilly racist," with neither side having any nuance or thought behind their beliefs.

MWR ain't got time for that sophomoric BS. (Yet here I am in the LR, where the conversations are generally at least more entertaining and respectful, I suppose.)

Now I know exactly where you get your news from. My FB feed is full of this garbage.

I dumped it last December. The last straw when a long time friend, highly educated, works for a large pharmaceutical company, posted something about some proposed relaxation of a federal regulation and how it proved beyond all doubt that Trump was a fascist.

I pointed out that deregulation was not by any stretch proof of fascism and deluged by posts calling me a Trump loving nazi and many of the posts, from people I've never met, were threatening me with acts of violence and promises to "make life difficult" with my work.

I bailed out.

I've only blocked one person here on Slowtwitch. At least with Slowtwitch, if I get sick of the political bullshit, I dont have to open the post. With FB, if you are following someone, it automatically shows in your feed.

I really do find it fascinating how obsessed you Canadians are with this whole Trump debacle. You guys are the most outspoken about it and I have a hard time comprehending why?

Do you have any idea how boring Canadian politicians and politics are? :-)

This "snowflake" thing (coming from the right wing of the LR) is hilarious.

Bunch of geriatric losers...
Crappy business people
Crappy husbands and parents
Crappy athletes.
Lunatics.
Drug addicts.
Bitter, bitter old men.

Wasting their entire working day, their family time, their training hours, crying:
"I hate millenial snowflakes
I hate liberal snowflakes
I hate European snowflakes
The government is out to get me
Big business is out to get me.
Economics is out to get me.
It's your fault Trump is a moron
But, but, but Obama."

Hey, I get it!!!
We see the things we hate about ourselves in the action and thoughts of others.
But come on a little self awareness....

I thought you were talking about me for a second there, but I'm not a drug addict.

I might be all of these things.
If you compare me with the wrong person.
(Or a better version of myself)

But at least I realize... it is my own dam fault.
(Millennials and the gubernment have nothing to do with it).

We all need one of those aunts. Unfortunately, that's both of my mom's sisters and her mom was arguably even worse.

Did I ever tell the story about the time I lived in an almost entirely minority neighborhood (probably 80% Black, 19% Hispanic, and me...seriously, only white guy within a mile radius...loved the place) and I suddenly started receiving anonymous & racially-threatening letters? They looked like those old villain movie letters, some typed, some pieces cut & glued from newspapers, each ramping up in the intensity of threat.

I took the advice to leave the place & took advantage of my landlord's graciousness about the situation. Found out a few years later that it was my mom's mother who was behind it, simply because she was a dirty racist. If anything good came out of my mom dying, it was being able to completely and without reservation cut all ties with that side.

Other than my crazy racist Danish aunt, I didn't have any Jesus freaks on my feed.

A couple of classic posts from her...

One was a picture of a bunch of black people running away from something with the caption (something to the affect of), "obama announces plan to create jobs in the inner cities."

...and this during the whole Ferguson police shooting crap (I saved it for posterity then blocked her)...

The Salem witch trials lasted less than a year. Had the spiritual leader of the community not been in England at the time they might never had occurred. McCathyism lasted for a few years.

quote ZenosArrow]the irony about McCarthy witch hunt is that McCarthy was a witch. Re political put downs this still ranks as one of the best:

http://www.history.com/...rthy-meets-his-match
Joseph N. Welch, a soft-spoken lawyer with an incisive wit and intelligence, represented the Army. During the course of weeks of hearings, Welch blunted every one of McCarthy’s charges. The senator, in turn, became increasingly enraged, bellowing “point of order, point of order,” screaming at witnesses, and declaring that one highly decorated general was a “disgrace” to his uniform. On June 9, 1954, McCarthy again became agitated at Welch’s steady destruction of each of his arguments and witnesses. In response, McCarthy charged that Frederick G. Fisher, a young associate in Welch’s law firm, had been a long-time member of an organization that was a “legal arm of the Communist Party.” Welch was stunned. As he struggled to maintain his composure, he looked at McCarthy and declared, “Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness.” It was then McCarthy’s turn to be stunned into silence, as Welch asked, “Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?” The audience of citizens and newspaper and television reporters burst into wild applause. Just a week later, the hearings into the Army came to a close. McCarthy, exposed as a reckless bully, was officially condemned by the U.S. Senate for contempt against his colleagues in December 1954. During the next two-and-a-half years McCarthy spiraled into alcoholism. Still in office, he died in 1957.[/quote]
