Tools.

You know that when women say things like "size 2" that 95% (including me) have almost no concept of what the hell that really means.

Oh, and I think she's amazing. Very gifted in many respects.

Not attractive?

Well, form follows function and I will suggest that Ms. Wellington's form is a beautiful adaptation to the task she has prepared for: Ironman.

Think about these concepts of beauty and the adaptations or settings in which they were conceived:

I'm not sure it's a compliment to compare her physical beauty to a cheetah. ;-)

That would get me a month's worth of couch time if I said that to my wife.

Chrissy is doing herself a very big favor by being very thin and it will serve her well by extending her maximum life span

Are you sure about that? Did Mr McCay take into account the oxidative stress produced by IM training and racing at the top level? I do think Chrissie is a phenominal athlete at the top of her game. No question. But does that make her physique traditonally attractive? Does that make her healthy in a reasonable sense of the word? Probably not.

We are the guinea pig generation of endurance sports. There is no real data on the long term repurcussions of IM-type training.....especially at Chrissie's level. If you look at the 1st generation of long distance triathlon athletes, you will find a lot of relatively young people with serious health issues that may or may not be related to the training they did. Hard to see how an intelligent person can discount the possiblity that going to such extremes may not play out well over the long term. Who really knows?

Is Chrissie super fast? Undoubtedly. Is she "fit"? Depends on your definition of the word. Is she healthy? That could be the real question 10 or 20 years from now. And if it turns out that she isn't, will she consider her accomplishments worth the cost? Only time will tell.

And, yes......I would like to know......what IS up with the bandaid?

I actually agree with you, I just think it's not a female only scenario. We're all required to live with double/triple/quintuple standards all the time. I just have found, that some people find that harder to grasp than others. I know plenty of women who fully understand they don't meet the "Chrissie" standard and are OK with that because their guy likes some curves. And I know an equal number of guys that are OK with that fact that they might be considered "Too sensitive" by most women, but their wives love them for who they are, that "over sensitivity" means the world to them.

I just find it amusing that so many people twist themselves in a knot hoping for there to be 1 true standard...and for that standard to be them...or what they aspire to. When, through all of human history, at least as far as I've been able to read, people have always wanted different things. Strange...how people, at their core, don't really change over time...yet we always want to pretend they have.

I will get on a soapbox here for a second and state one other, probably obvious statement. In addition to the people who exceedingly naively want to pretend everyone should have the exact same expectations, you have dipsticks who try and put forth the idea that any standard should be OK. If someone wants to be lazy and a complete lard arse, well darn it, that should be just as good as being hard working and fit. OK, clearly that's ridiculous. We should be able to acknowledge and accept that different people will have different standards for what's acceptable and what isn't without becoming so neutered as to say that ANYTHING is OK as long as SOMEONE happens to say it is. OK, soapbox put away now.

What I've gained from this thread....

1. Chrissie is THE prime example of a female endurance athlete
2. Chrissie's calves make me feel like an old, fat man
3. I do not find Chrissie sexually appealing whatsoever, but I have immense respect for her abilities and her personality/presence. Different stroke for different folks...
4. Tom D wants to have sexy time with a cheetah

This is especially true for Ironman races. It definitely favors a lean body type, to the point that many people wouldn't consider it "attractive". That goes for men and women. Look at the Kona pictures...Macca and Raelert are so sinewy that their chests almost look concave. Amazing, amazing fitness though.

My husband just got his newest issue of Men's Health. There is an article about the "Best Of" in different male sports. I don't think of Craig Alexander as slightly built when I see him in the Triathlon magazine but compared the other 4 guys in the article, he looks VERY lean.... even if you take the massive NFL guy out of the comparison.

No no, the implicit message from the crowd here can't be read in any other way than that women should try to stay the f''k away from manly mens sports and stick to the things they do best i.e. raise children and act as eye candy in the background.

Just a short rant before picking up the kid at day care ;p

Finally, someone with a reasonable response. :)

She's not reading her dissertation on the impact of European regional policy on British small and medium enterprises....she's oiled up and flexing half-naked for the camera.

For the record, I am not judging her, but I'm sure while she was doing this she could've seen this thread coming a mile away. This is the youtube equivalent to a "critique my position" thread, and she's smart enough to have expected a wide range of comments. But if she weren't confident/comfortable with herself then she wouldn't have done it.

I find her very physically attractive, I like lean athletic women. But I've had the opportunity to meat her a Kansas 70.3 a couple times . She is so friendly , approachable , flat out nice. This component of Ms. Wellington adds to her attractiveness . If she were a total bitch or something like that it would affect my overall opinion. Plus you add her world class, best ever staus which is also hot.

To me she's as hot as any of the other women on that youtube clip.

And men are judged by their wallet. Big deal, live with it.

BTW, I find it hard to believe you actually read all the posts on this thread and still came up with that conclusion.

There's actually a men's only gym called CUTS - same format as the CURVES, but for guys and slightly different machines. I looked into opening a few franchises about 4-5 years back. Glad I didn't, as they're struggling right now to maintain membership.

Well you sir, surely are a dick. The thread is about her body. From an aesthetics only standpoint (which is what this thread is about), she's a lean, mean (ok not really), triathlon machine. To me: thats not necessarily attractive (although as was said earlier- them abs is kickin'!). To all the peeps that like the absolutely 0.00001% body fat, are y'all into female body builders as well? Similar thing, just opposite end of the muscle spectrum. It seems like everyone on here agrees however that from a whole package standpoint, shes pretty awesome. The smile, the personality; its the bomb.

Hello gleveq and All,

You are right - I am not sure - for some of the reasons you mention.

But if you have to go one direction or the other - the very thin way has the most science backing it for disease resistance and life extension.

Insulin response is a marker for aging and we hammer our insulin response with all the sugars we consume for training and racing.

Mark Sisson has written about athletes health training and racing here on ST and on his website.

It would be interesting to peer down the road and see how we guinea pigs will fare.

There are many many things that make a woman fuckable.

I like how many men in general have high standards on the internet. Like every woman better be super model hot complete with air brushing and make up or they just couldn't stomach her. I think it was like a month ago where a photo of 2 woman before some race was posted and somebody refered to them as ample or some shit. Yeah, I would have plowed the crap out of both of them. But then again, I am a pig. I'm ok with that.

There is actually really only one, maybe 2, if you find the right one ;-), "things" that make it possible.

If you don't think that look is attractive, then don't look at it. Bottom line is she is an athlete for endurance sports not your child rearing and home making. She is a phenomenal athlete with an unquestionable determination. Take her as a person and athlete and not whether she is attractive to you. Just for the record, there are very few women that in the right situation, we would not all hook up with. Our standards as men are not all that high.

I think the ESPN piece is odd. They have a Triathlete posing like she was a body builder.... many if not all athletes would ( other than body builders ) look out of place/funny/strange doing this.
