I've been offered a job in the Albany, NY area and have a couple of tri-related questions for the peaceful tribe.
If I accept, I'll be working near the airport. I'd like to keep my commute under 45 minutes. I am married and have 3 kids, so schools are more important than nightlife, we prefer a rural setting with some land over the suburbs, and proximity to recreational/educational facilities are high on the list as well.
FWIW, we lived in Clifton Park for about 4 years. Found that it was no-mans land as far as tri/cycling was concerned. I had to drive to Saratoga to ride with a group, run the trails, or hit the big climbs. The few times I went to Thatcher, it was awesome riding, but I can't see there being any pools/master clubs down there, and also it will add about 45 minutes to my drive on the weekends when I want to go xc skiing up norht.
For anyone who's familiar, what areas would you recommend?
Saratoga looks great, but driving over the twin bridges everyday doesn't appeal to me.
The area around Thatcher park looks great, but will I have anyone to train with down there?
What's the tri-scene like in the capital district nowadays?
Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks
Ron
