Swedish Champs in a variety of sports take place every other day it seems and as triathletes we jump in best we can.
Today though was Swedish Sprint Triathlon Champs , drafting, in Swedish triathlon hotspot Säter, host of many a classic races with Mark Allen, Dave Scott, Tinley and their likes.
Anyway, Björn took it out HARD on the swim trying to shake the field but I managed to stay on his motorboat-kick for the 750 m swim. Out on the bike there were three of us and Björn started putting the hurt on us with a couple of come-from-behind surges. I managed to cover a few of them but after about half the bike I got sick from toting my lactic acid-laden legs around for yet a surge and the man got away. From that point we started to pussy around and we moved quite slow in the chasepack.
Out on the run Björn had a good 1.20 up on me but I tried to get a bat out of hell kinda run going from start and I took back about 30 seconds on the first mile, another 30 on the second but Björn had kept some reserves and managed to hold me off by four measly seconds!
Great job by Björn and a well deserved win! I was happy too since I turned in a 15.41 for the 5 km which bodes well for LD Worlds in two weeks.
Björn went straight back to Uppsala for the roadrace in the Swedish Cycling Champs, 200 k, which he will try to make an impression in tomorrow. Albeit, being technical and critty Björn wasn´t too confident in being able to make a break like he did last year.
I´ll stay in lovely Säter and do another triathlon tomorrow, the relay-champs! Whoohoo, can´t wait!
