P2SL, Felt S22 is also nice. Though for 3k you can get some really good used deals as well.

You didn't mention tri, road, moutain, etc.
I'd say a Cervelo Soloist team, campy build, with upgraded wheels (still under 3K)

Because it is a road bike - geometry and all. Might be one ot the only "aero" road bikes (right down to the internal cable routing) for some reason, but it is still a road bike. The low head tube, short chainstays and Cervelo proprietary "flippable" seat post make a decent tri bike, but it is not quite the same.

So I guess my question is what makes a bike a tri-bike? If I take a P3 and put on 20 cm of spacers, is it still a tri bike? I'm not trying to stir the pot, but for my measurements what is typically marketed as "tri bike" geometry leaves me too stretched. Can a bike be a tri bike for one person but not another based on the person's measurements?
Re: Sweetest Bike under 3K? [kdw]
[ In reply to ]
yes, that is still a tri bike (and unfortunately I see lots of people riding a nice P3 with lots of spacers) :). Steep seat tube angle designed to be ridden aero. Just look at the geometry of any "real" tri bike vs. any road bike. The difference will be clear. Clearer still when riding. FWIW, the fit on a tri bike is much more important than the "fit" on a road bike where there is much more room for adjustments.

However, the Soloist IS designed to work better in "tri-mode" (i.e. ridden forward) than the typical road bike due to the short chainstays and relatively long "front center" dimension.
I'd argue that for tri purposes, the Soloist is a better "under $3K" tri bike than most so-called *dedicated* tri-bikes in that price range :-)

It's tough to beat the P2SL with a list price of $2500 for a Dura-Ace equipped bike. At "street prices" you'd have enough left over to buy a Renn disc and pick up a good front aero wheel.
Just my 2 pesos ;-)

I did just see a Seduza (new old stock from last year) go on sale for $2250. That's a pretty good deal.
