A Racing: 6hour to 24hour events. Only two signed up for thus far this year. Will do 4 total.

MTB – built around Trek 8500 frame, SID carbon/titanium, Bont Race light wheels, XTR w/cheap V-brakes

Triathlon: will do one sprint and one oly. Tri is merely for fun. Found Slowtwitch because of interest in IM nutrition and training techniques for A Racing success.

Ridiculous Road Bike – Circa 1988 Fuji Club, Suntour components w/downtube shifters, ridden with MTB pedals and shoes, teal and yellow… (did I yet say "steel is real"… if I did, tell me to shut up). Would like to buy a 2003 Giant TCR1 or 2. I will only buy a previous year’s model. Giant seems like the best mix of components to price.

Tri bike? Will purchase one if I do an ironman (very distant future). I’d buy a cheap one w/tiagra

Got a Vitus, year= old. It's got 7-speed DA on it, which I think means it's just a little younger than me. Probably. ;)

I live on the bike course of IMCDA. Last year when I picked up my Sunday paper, I could've knocked Heather Golnick off her bike if I was so inclined. If you did IMCDA last year, odds are I watched you bike from the shade of my patio with a cold beer in my hand. Not that I'm rubbing it in, or anything.

i'm going for the 'GRIZ' tri. i've heard it's not a bad little race (and, it's the biggest race in montana - at least that's what they say on the entry form). i have no vehicle myself (aside from the bike, obvioulsy), and friends racing in missoula, so i have to snag the ride when i can.

other than that i think i'm going to helena for their oly this summer, and perhaps spokane for the 1/2 IM. other than that, i have to learn the race schedule to figure out what's going on when (i know the mideast schedule pretty well, but that doesn't help much out here).

i'm also planning on running the jim bridger run and the bridger ridge run, so we'll see how that goes.

I might be doing the "Griz" depends on my leg. To bad you can not do Peaks to Praires(8.8 mile run 43 mile bike 23 kayak)from Red lodge to Billings, its a week after the Griz. Its a blast. You can also do teams. Matbe some people where you are at will do a team and yoy could come on down? Here is the link. If you are interseted let me know. I might be able to find someone from where you are at that is coming down. I know that there are people from Bozeman that come over for it.

1) Last year IM, this year not sure, probably just a lot of riding and hopefully a fall marathon, next year an off-road Ironman.

2)

beater bike: Bianchi

mountainbike: Serotta soft-tail (labeled Mongoose - ex-Steve Larsen). Very sweet but I'm selling it since I am not doing it justice. But it is so pretty with all the sponsor logos and trick stuff.

road bike: Cervelo SuperProdigy Team (another bike I don't do justice but I'm not selling, more even than how it rides I like the state of mind it puts me in, it whispers "10 hr ride" every time I get near it).

tri bike: P3 and yes, compact cranks.

3) Toronto

Training for long distance tris - Muncie and IM Wisconsin are my main events this year. Also some shorter local events - tris, dus, bike TT's, and runs - as they fit the training schedule.
1997 Softride Powerwing w. compact crankset, Syntace bar and aerobar. Still running 8 speed - for now, it seems to be enough.
I live on the south edge of Indianapolis and ride mainly on the nearby country roads. I usually make one or two trips a year to the Mansfield, Ohio area to get some hill work on the original Pineman course.

Racing: Running: 5k up to 50mi Ultras with a tendency toward Marathons, 2:54 PR

Cycling: Occasional stage race, but mostly TTs as adjunct "training" for tri/du

Tri: Sprint to IM, was forced to shelve a Great Floridian entry last year due to an accident. I don't expect to race longer than 1/2 IM for a few years now due to time available for training. Hawaii will have to wait.

Du: This has probably become my main focus now after my accident last year, due to time available in the next few years. I am fairly fast (AG) combining running and cycling, as in able to run sub 18 5ks onto and off the bike.

Bikes: TT/Tri/Du: Kestrel Talon SL, DA, Hed Aero bars, PowerTap Pro, Hed H3 set, Hed Alps set, Mavic Classics set, Mavic Cosmos set. I'm set up to ride about 75.5 degrees nominal, though I moved very slightly forward on the saddle during hard racing efforts (Probably 76.5 effective seat angle). I run VERY well off this position. . .slightly better than the 78 degrees on my previous Litespeed Saber that got crunched in the wreck.

Road: Specialized 2002 Allez Comp, Ultegra with a few upgrades, also set up for the PT Pro. Wheelsets are mix and match from above depending on usage needs.

Mountain: NONE. . .why tempt fate? The only MB I ever owned got used for downtown grocery runs in Charleston, South Carolina.

Location: I am currently in the Hampton Roads, Virginia area. I'll be moving to Quantico, Virginia this summer. A year later. . .who knows. . .wherever the Marine Corps needs me. Hopefully it needs me in SoCal. Barring that, Beaufort, South Carolina would be great.

This thread is amazing. I went all the way through it expecting to see some nekkid pics of someone based on the number of posts. :)

Do: mostly tris. Will do an occasional du or run a 5k or 10k if it's convenient, but the focus is tri. Will probably do 2-3 olys, 1-2 springs and a 1/2 this year.

Ride: Schwinn Peloton road bike

Just bought a Yacqui Carbo tri bike

MTB: I don't even know what it is. It's a hand me down that is only used when I do canoe day trips. With the seat post down and the front tire off, I can fit it in the canoe. Finding a bridge and riding back to the car eliminates the need for a shuttle.

Reside: Nashville, work downtown, reside in the suburbs just to the south.

Oly and Sprint tri's and du's and occasionally a 5k or 10k road race. I might run the Indy Mini with some friends this year. I did my first pure biking event (a TT) this past winter and got destroyed! ...a lapse in training will do that...

'01 QR PR with '02 Ultegra
'87 Trek 650 (Reynold's 531) with '02 Ultegra (except for original 105 ders, which have seen their share of rebuilding and who are finally starting to give up the ghost)

Been doing 3 to 5 sprints and Olys every year for 18 years, did Muncie 1/2 iron once, and would love to do the distance again, but don't think the knees will be able to take it. In 2001 when the knees were real bad from running, I did 10 MTB races and a few cyclocross races.

20 yr old Motobecane Mirage that stays on the trainer all year. 1987 Centurion Dave Scott ironman expert that I raced until 3 years ago. 12 yr old Nishiki Alien MTB that I ride alot on the all proupose trail. 1999 Giant XTC SE 2 MTB for off road racing and a few Xterras. 2000 Giant TCR2 for tris.

First race of year will be sprint distance Escape from Fort Desoto April 17th followed by St. Anthony's Olympic distance April 25th, both in St. Pete, Florida. I plan on doing several local sprints throughout the summer, a 4th of July Charlotte Harbor, FL swim, Disney Olympic distance in Sept., then Great Floridian 1/2 IM in October. Also plan on doing a century or two.

Bike 1 is 2004 QR Tiphoon, full Ultegra with Real Design Supersonic carbon wheelset for racing and Velomax Vista wheels for training.

Bike 2 is 2004 Cannondale Ironman 800. Was a gift from a dealer.

Bike 3 is a KHS Flite 2000 road bike with full ultegra.

I live in sunny and windy southwest Florida. Charlotte County. Obviously, all my rides are locally.

Triathlons over the last 10 years of various distances. 50 races total. Over the last 4 years only 10 races of the they are broken down as 4 full ironman, 3 half ironman, 1 olympic distance and, 2 sprints. I am signed up for Lake Placid this summer and it may be my only race this year unless I decide to jump into the Great Floridian (Probably full maybe the half).

I ride an old school style Softride Power V set up for comfort over the distance. I'm positioned more like Zack than Bjorn. Just recently added a Power Tap that I finally repositioned so that it picks up most of the time. I'm hoping that the use of a power meter will help me better ration my energies up the hills in Lake Placid.

I live in pancake flat Naples, Florida. It's great for riding during the winter. But having no hills really limits my training.

Awesome Posts everyone. I'm amazed at the variety of all of the athletes here and equally amazed at all their different bikes.

It seems some bikes and races have a story to tell and I thank those of you that told theirs breifly here.

This quick post revealed how close some of you are (SE Mich) and how widespread this forum reaches (SoCal to NYC to Belgium to NZ!)

Here is another thought, would your interest in this sport and particularly this discussion forum compel you to purchase a t-shirt, jersey, keychain, water bottle, or other such trinket?

Also, has this forum lead you to purchase something that you may not have if you hadn't been turned on to it here?

Thanks again for the responses and please feel free to respond to the original post.

Come to think of it, perhaps I should repost the new question in another thread...

----------------------------------------------------------------------of course it has...buying of the TSR jerseys and maybe a tshirt as well----------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, has this forum lead you to purchase something that you may not have if you hadn't been turned on to it here?

----------------------------------------------------------------------not yet but the whole Fizik Arione thing has me curious..unless I can coerce CG to sell me the other seat he bought at the bike show;-)

Hey SuperDave -- Thanks for asking!

The move itself was great ... nothing like driving across the desert southwest in a rented Uhaul with no radio reception!

My wife and I like LV so much, we've already decided to move to Colorado next summer. She's a veterinarian, and has taken a position with the Colorado State vet school in Fort Collins. We're both very excited about moving to CO and leaving LV. Las Vegas is a fun place to visit, but living here sucks. Imagine all of the worst things about southern california (traffic, crime, smog etc), but it's hotter and there's not beach.

Sparks is a long way from LV, it's up by Reno and Lake Tahoe, I think. I've never been there. Being that close to tahoe, it's probably cooler with better scenery.

re: the weather: right now, it's perfect. beautiful. I did the Las Vegas century yesterday (all 110 miles, it was a little long), and it was fantastic. Shorts and a short sleeve jersey in mid October. Keep in mind, summer here is 6 months long and it gets extremely hot (110+) is common. From our arrival on June 1, until mid Sept., it topped 100 all but a handful of days.

I managed to make it into Interbike on Friday. My friend Bill is a sales rep for Giant, and he got me a badge. I had a great time. Your bikes look great ... one of the most complete lines in the show. I wrote a rambling review of what I liked.

Take care
jason

SD,

I live about 1.2 miles from your HQ (in Lake Forest) :-). I haven't raced in 2 years, but I refuse to call it "retired" (after 10 years). I'm hoping to get back into short course racing next year, perhaps a IM distance race late in the year (non IMNA), then maybe go long again in 2006.

Strictly road and/or tri bikes. I've never even owned a MTB (although I would like to, just need more $$$'s).

...and Santiago Canyon Road is pretty much my domain. It's easy to ride up, turn around and come back. Occasionally I'll drive somewhere to ride flat ;-)

Road/Tri - '99 Klein Quantum Race, stock everything, w/ Profile clip on aero bars. Considering some race wheels....

1. I'm mostly and IM guy - I've done some 1/2 IMs and a few shorter distance tris, but only as a way to build strength / endurance for the long day. i would pick a bike race on the weekend over a sprint tri but would ride in the afternoon of either event. I've been thinking a lot about why I like IM best and I think it's because it's so damn hard. there is so off-the-couch way to finish the IM. even low volume training is still hard.

2. I ride a lot of bikes. Right now I train on a Trek 5.9 Madone SL and race on a Trek TT. I also have a LeMond for road racing and I have a cyclo-cross I ride all fall. Aside from some new parts for the bike my biggest tri-related purchases have been a PowerTap Pro and a rear disc. I think both make a big advantage and I would encourage people looking at a CT to get a PowerTap wheel instead.

3. I like in Wisconsin. It's damn cold here now - really cold. So today i'm going to ski for a while before my run and trainer ride. thank god for netflix!

I think if you could put a powertap in a disc some people would buy it, but it's so specialized and would be so expensive ($1800+ i would guess). I think for that money I would buy an SRM instead. I race a lot on the PT (i have a bontrager aero rim on it) and am going to re-build it onto a carbon rim to make it a bit more race ready.

The best thing that PT could do I think is match the SL hub with a really light rim to make a good climbing / road racing wheel.

Ride a 2002 Talon Road bike for the rare large group ride, as long as the ride is short. But, 99% of the time I am fortunate and grateful that I am able to ride a 2004 Titan Flex without back pain. I feel your pain. I, myself, live in a certain armpit of the great lakes region. When I was a stupid college boy here, I'd go out with a friend and (after TTT'ing out to the countryside) we'd half-wheel each other in a (usually roaring in springtime) headwind or crosswind until one of us cracked. Trippy. We'd have routes like "col de la state line road" or "alto de Blissfield".

Hills are a treat. Flat, windy rides just break your soul.

I am slowly twitching my way into the triathlon world, transitioning from mtb and road racing. Working on sprints now with aspirations of 1/2 IM.

06 Specialized Transition
05 On-One 29er single speed
04 Specialized Epic
01 Trek 5900 OCLV (USPS edition)

I ride and race all over New England, trying to concentrate on triathlons, but still do the occasional road crit or mtb race.

The occasional tri, mainly sprints. I like to train more then race. Also, its hard for me to find time being a single parent of a 4 year old.

Bikes: Cervelo P3SL and a Colnago C40

Im currently stationed at Fort Polk, LA. I do most of my rides on post. Little to no traffic in the training areas but the roads suck. My longer rides are done on the "nicer" roads off post.

I see you live in Vevey. I bought a couple of hospitals in your area in the 1980s for one of my clients. Charmette Hospital in Lasaunne and Clinque de Genolier in Genolier. Had dinner in Vevey at Dr. Hauf's house cooked by suposedly the No. 1 cook in the world at the time Chiardre (sic)? It was 11 pm, I was tired, and did not apppreciate it.
Once ran along Lake Lamond (Geneva) in Lausanne with a shower cap from the Beau Rivage Hotel. It was cold and, as they say, "any port in a storm." The Swiss stared at me as if I was an alien and gave me their extra dour look they save for anyone doing anything unSwisslike.

Annually do about 6-10 5k and 10k races, one du and 3-5 sprint tris (retired from olys when I turned 50). Ride a 2002 Cervelo One and usually only race in Chicagoland unless I get the itch to race in Wisconsin and kick some Packer fan butt. Da Bears.

Training for my 1st Ironman, otherwise have done a sprint and 3 oympic. Seriously contemplating a 50mile ultra run just to spite my wife who says I will injure myself (all though I probably will). And no, I have never been into running untill a couple years ago.

2006 Kuota K-Factor with Spinergy PBO Stealths, carbon Bontrager compact crank, and the usual other stuff.
2004 Klein Aura X road bike with the only upgrade being a set of Bontrager Race X-Lite Aero wheels.

I live in Ames Iowa, home of the Iowa State University Cyclones (and yes we currently suck in just about everything but wrestling but we hired all new coaches for just about every sport so give it some time) I mainly ride from house, but am considering trying to hang with the local roadie group ride from my LBS, but I think they are a bit to fast for me right now.

I am a newbie. Training for first sprint tri in June (may need to pick a later one due to recent leg
injury :(

Also training for marathon in November.

Ride a now badly scarred Trek 1600 WSD... yep, just one bike in my garage (but two kayaks :)

Live in eastern North Carolina. Tend to ride around and around the streets of the golf course communities... wider streets, less traffic, better odds of not getting run over by bubbas in trucks. Occaisonally back roads, although road shoulders are pretty much nonexistent here.
