How often or How much do you wear your TRI watch?
With all the data watches provide I find that I wear my watch all the time. I have the Forerunner 945 and wear it all day/night except to charge it while in the shower or to clean it after a heavy training session. I suspect many of us are obsessed with data... maybe itā€™s just me.
What got me thinking about this is that I noticed the other day my skin was a bit irritated under the strap. I began to think that maybe I wear the watch more than I should and not letting my skin under the band get enough fresh air. I have since then moved it the other wrist for a day or two.

Random thoughts on a long run.........

24/7 except when it's charging. I mean it's a watch. Other people wear non-tri watches 24/7 so I don't see what the big deal is.

That said I got a pretty rad watch tan going on so I should probably take it off next time I'm at the beach.

24/7 except when it's charging. I have the Fenix 5s but got the version that comes with a suede strap and the silicone one. I try and only wear the silicone strap for workouts. I was actually just looking at the stainless steel straps as an alternative to the silicone.

When I run, when I swim and occasionally when I bike (but usually only if brick planned). And, sometimes when I lift just to track time.

Do you wear it to track HR or? Otherwise i dont see why you would wear it e.g. at home?

I wear mine when swimming/runnning/fitness and sometimes wear it for biking just as a backup/to see time of day.

I wear mine all day but take it off at bedtime.

I like having it on while at work to get notifications without having to pull a phone out of my pocket.

I donā€™t need all the bells and whistles of an Apple Watch and like that my garmin stays charged for a week or better, even with all the workouts I do.

I need to try using the vibrate alarm system again. My phone alarm has been waking up one of kids when I get up to train early in the mornings.

I started wearing my Garmin 935 daily mainly because ai started taking on climbing a lot of stairs and found it was more accurate than the Apple Watch. Just curious if others noticed if the stairs climbed/altitude starting becoming less accurate after all day/daily use? I though I caught a conversation somewhere where some peeps were discussing it. I do see flights of stairs skipped.

I wear my good old Timex IM watch 24/7. Mostly just to tell time and check the date, but also to time track Intervals and sometimes swim Intervals.

I wear my Garmin 920XT when I go for a training ride or run. Iā€™ll also wear it for a race. Itā€™s sort of neat to see where I went (or at least where it thinks I went) during an open water swim.

I probably wear it too much... for races! I sit there in transition changing modes... has cost me time in short races. But, on the other hand it has saved me when timing mats didn't read my chip.

Hello trueff and All,

Garmin 945 ... Worn all the time .... Like you ..... I had some skin irritation from constant wear and now I alternate wrists each 24 hours or so.

My case of skin irritation may not be typical as I have had some collagen depletion with the passing of time and ultraviolet exposure.

My original Fenix was too cumbersome to wear all the time ... but the 925 form factor is just like a 'regular watch'.

I only use what I want of the 945 capabilities and do not concern myself with the unused capability that I know is there.

I think there is a market for 'Device 101' classes ... but for present YouTube https://www.youtube.com/ works for many applications .... but I think there is room for more device coaching.

Hopefully AI will become ubiquitous and solve this 'gaposis' (yes it is a word) we have with our all our time consuming devices .... which seems to be driving a backlash against a tidal wave of 'evidence based' data.

24/7

Garmin Fenix 5x Plus

I need to track sleep patterns. Pulse Ox was useful in training for Boulder this year.

Also, I heavily rely on it for calories burned. 3500 or 4000 in a day is one thing, but when you start hitting 5000, 6000+, itā€™s nice to see how many calories roughly you will need to eat. It helps me greatly.

Also, I do 2/days and 3/days sometimes and use the battery heavily on GPS mode - this watch had the biggest battery I could find (32hrs GPS mode).

I have a Fenix 5s and I wear it constantly, as long as it isn't charging. It's comfortable, and I actually look at the data to guide decisions about working out.

Had a 920XT and only wore if for workouts. Too ugly. Just got a Fenix5s and wear it all the time. I do take it off at bedtime though. When I was a little kid, I remember my father telling me to take the watch off when I went to bed or I'd get lint from my bedsheets under the glass. Started wearing his old dive watch when I was 10 so I took it off every night and have been doing that with every watch since out of habit.

FR920XT - only working out/racing. Rarely otherwise. I also have a Suunto Spartan Trainer Wrist HR. I use this only for travel - it's nice to leave the chest strap at home. This one is small enough to wear as an 'everyday' watch and I do that a bit. But not to sleep and 80% just for working out...

I haven't been doing much running or cycling lately, but when I do I'll wear it for run and bike probably 50% of the time, and almost never for the swim. I did wear it for last weeks open water swim so I could measure the course.

never in the pool.

I got new Garmin 935 as a gift from the Wife. She bought it for me because the insurance company judges whether or not you're active enough to be worthy of their healthy rewards benefits by counting steps. Any other type of non-stepping activity be damned. Therefore, I wear my watch during the day. I take it off for the bike, pool, and bed.

I have a fancy dress watch I used to wear but the damn thing goes through a battery every 20 months or so.
Also, I was constantly taking it off and switching to my tri watch and then not bothering to switch back.
So, I have a $500 watch sitting in drawer now.

My new Coros Apex is a fairly nice looking watch so I don't mind wearing it with a suit to formal events.

So funny. Pool swimming is the only time I take it off. It helped me develop a range of speeds. My slow and relaxed is slow and relaxed and when I am swimming fast I have more focus on what I am doing.

This is the correct thing to do. Though shalt not wear a watch in the pool.

All the time except Bedtime. I would not wear to job interview.

A couple of weeks ago we went to a wedding, as I walked up to our table the guy at the table asks:

"are you a triathlete?"
me: HUH, What?
"the watch"
Oh yea and I have the tan line to prove it

Turns out his wife is a KQ Bound triathlete.

During a very weird summer that saw me change careers, pretty much the only exercise I have done is swim in an outdoor pool and walk the dogs. Usually I run or bike, and as fall creeps up, I may run some more and maybe bike to work.

That said, I wear a newer (bought this year at Walmart) Timex IM watch. I have worn it every single one Iā€™ve been in the pool: Iā€™m trying to use my watch to help me gauge the progress of my summer tan. I have a pretty well-defined Tyr polymesh square-bottom tan line. Only a few more weeks to work on this, and then itā€™s over. Cue Seasonal Affective Disorder, until I start running on weekends and biking to work.

All day everyday. Except when itā€™s charging. I also take it off to shave since I use an old style brush and donā€™t want to falsely register steps. I think most triathletes use these modern ā€œsuper watchesā€ Iā€™ll call them as an all in one. It gives me phone updates, and serves as a fitness tracker as well. Plus you can always be really old fashioned and use it as a watch šŸ˜‚.

Same here, I have the 5X and it's always on. For formal occasions I have a nice metal strap I'll swap out and it looks pretty sharp. I may even go as far as to adjust the watch face to a more formal face for those events, and switch back to my A race countdown face after.

I had the same issue pop up with my Fenix 5X and later 5X plus.
I cinch it down for workouts for best HR readings.
Loosen for every day wearing.
Take it off at night when sleeping. Don't really need the data for sleeping. I usually know if I slept crappy or not at night.

Allowing the skin to breathe at night got rid of the irritation that started resulting in blistering.

Iā€™ve got a Suunto 9 and I wear it all the time. I train almost every day so knowing myself, if I donā€™t have it on Iā€™ll forget it ..

Itā€™s got a daily tracker which I didnā€™t care for initially. But having it now Iā€™ve realised how fidgety I am because even on a no training day, the number of steps I take is well over the average .. and Iā€™ve got a desk job ..

Like you, I found that some of my older watches (Garmins, Timex and Suuntos) irritated my skin after a while but I havenā€™t had issues with this one yet. My older watches gathered a white powdery dusting and the wrist bands have broken. Itā€™s esp bad if Iā€™ve been swimming a lot.

Random thoughts on a long run.........

24/7. But I tossed the stock band immediately and replaced it with a custom cloth webbing band I made. What that means is that my skin is in contact with the webbing and not with the watch back. Not sure what difference that would make.

With my 935 I can avoid the rash if I take the watch off for a few hours after each workout to let the watch and skin dry. Otherwise I wear it almost all the time.

I had a Samsung Galaxy Bluetooth 46 mm, which I wore continuously during the day. I used it to record swims, runs, and bike rides. The watch transmitted the data to Samsung Health on my cell phone, which forwarded the data to Strava. I was satisfied with the watch until it went into an infinite reboot loop while I was swimming laps at my local YMCA. Samsung wanted $430 to repair it, which is substantially more than the original purchase price. It was still in the warranty period, but the warranty doesn't cover water damage. Can you believe that?!!! Samsung sells a sports watch with a swim mode, but the warranty doesn't cover water damage!

Iā€™m still rocking the Garmin 235 with a triathlon IQ app.

I wear it 24/7. Itā€™s the only watch I have, It looks great, easy to read, gives me my phone notifications, tracks my steps, HR and sleep and itā€™s my alarm clock. It has been through 2 home remodels and has a fine mist of paint from my old and new house that will likely never come off.

The tan line is epic!

When/if I ever upgrade to a 935/945 or whatever the future holds, Iā€™ll wear that one 24/7.

Iā€™ve got a Garmin Fenix 5+ that only ever leaves my wrist to be charged.

While I do have several major niggles with it (the HR can be comically inaccurate at times, ditto the GPS for running on occasion) - overall its a pretty great watch, and looks good enough that wearing it to work is more than OK.

Whatā€™s nice is that itā€™s really no larger than the Timex Ironman watches Iā€™ve worn for decades, but then does all of that other cool high tech shit.
