Opening Day
One of my favorite days of the year. Everyone starts 0-0 and box scores appear in the daily paper (yes I'm a dinosaur who still gets home delivery). Let's play two!

How does your team look this season?

I don't believe Bryce Harper will be "allowed" to hit his first home run as a Phillie today, but will have to "wait" until the ESPN game on Sunday

April 3 is on my calendar. Scherzer vs. Harper at Nationals Park, 1:05pm.

Harp wasn't bringing a title here by himself, and signing him pretty much would've required that he did, given the payroll implications. I'm pretty confident we'll reach the same level of October disappointment without him in our lineup.

Except the A's are starting opening day at 0 - 2.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

As a Blue Jays fan, I have a feeling that their opening day 0-0 record will be the best they see all year...

Should be a national holiday.

Taking my three boys out of school to see the 2-0 Mariners beat down the Red Sox.

We have to wait until April 5th here in Rockies territory, but looking forward to a good season. I'm still a Mariners fan at heart and try to catch a TV game or two.

Sale was dealing in his last spring training start on Sunday, just painting corners and owning the strike zone. He’ll be fired up where he just signed an extension and has talked about wanting to be part of a contender for the long haul rather than getting his WS ring, checking that off his list and cashing in. I just hope he stays healthy where they’ve tried to better manage his workload given past injuries.

I’m curious to see how their “no closer” approach works out where Kimbrel is gone (still unsigned). Other than him and Joe Kelly, last years lineup is intact.

Man I am ready!

We will see how the Cubs do this year but I'm hopeful. Busted out my beat to hell 15 year + Cubs 1914 hat the other day...that alone felt great.

Cutting out of work a bit early to listen to the remainder of the opener against the Texans (0-0 B1) today.

Bumgarner gave up two runs in seven innings and gets the loss.

Have already received my first email from a friend who is a Yankee fan that my Orioles have already started their nosedive for the season.

I figure I may actually see a lot more games this year in person since people will be selling their season tickets on stubhub for cheap from mid April on.

Whatever he's smoking is working where they touched Sale up in the 3rd and have a 7-3 lead. Sox
Iineup is so deep though and can't be counted out.

How about Lorenzo Cain pulling a HR back to end the game in Milwaukee??? That was sick!

Nobody does opening day like Cincinnati. It truly is a holiday here. 150 year anniversary of the first professional team.

Reds win, wire to wire baby!

Mariners 3-0.

Chase Chris Sale after 3 innings, 7 runs and 3 home runs.

This M’s team looks like they are having fun.

We get this same feeling about football, starting in August.

It used to be that baseball's oldest team always played the first game of the season.
At least we started our 150th season with a victory. I hope we have a good season. I'd like to see Johnny Votto in the World Series

Yes sir!

I once again put the only Cubs W flag up in Moscow, Idaho yesterday. She's blowing in the wind proudly this morning.

Do you live in Florida? Between the Devil Rays and Marlins, MLB sure has a tough time connecting with fans there.

"In an effort to make Rays games look less depressing, the team reduced the capacity this season to 25,025. And they still struggled to sell that out on Opening Day. The result was the saddest Game 1 crowd we'll see this season."

I've never been to a game there but know people who have that say it is an awful facility. The tough part is for the past 10 years going back to the Joe Maddon era they have generally been a fun team to watch and have a way of developing good young talent that ultimately leave for greener pastures. Frustrating for their fan base but also hard to say if a new stadium would (literally) change the teams fortunes where the Marlins still can't draw well since moving to their new ballpark a few years back.

They should just move to their spring training park across town. It's a great venue, and seats just over 7000. Which, for TB, sounds about right.
