Let's talk free foot pods
about that zwift footpod deal. that all happened FAST. let's talk about this.

1. if you were a NEW zwifter, and you set up a NEW account, using that code i gave you in the email i sent out to you all on friday, then you're in. you get the footpod. just, this assumes you actually activated your account, i.e., you're a paying zwifter. if you're a NEW zwifter and you didn't activate your account, go do so.

2. if you are an EXISTING zwifter and you typed in your email in the place i asked you to, then you just got an email from me within the last half hour alerting you that you're in, where to type in your shipping address in your zwift profile, and so on.

if you're neither of these groups, and you missed out, please don't start sending me PMs! let me see what i may be able to do.

I've unsubscribed using the link in the email.
On further reflection I decided I'm actually unlikely to make much, if any, use of a pod. I'll stick with running outdoors and save Zwift for the time crunched bike sessions. I was just being greedy!

I presume my pod will now be re-designated for the next on the list?

First off. Thanks for doing this. I am loving Zwift. I thought I signed up in time. But did not receive any email.

Then a few days later I happened to go into my spam folder and saw it in there. So apparently I did make. If you didn’t see an email. Check your spam folder!!!

Ps Dan. I just listened to you legends of Triathlon podcast from a few years ago. Absoluetly loved it. Did my first Ironman in 89 in a QR wetsuit with Scott DH bars. Signed up thinking I was doing the impossible. Your stories brought back so many memories. Thanks again!

Sorry to pile on to this thread, but I'm almost certain I signed up correctly and in time, but never got a confirmation email. I got the weekly newsletter with the "If you were one of the 1000 who got in..." text, so I know I can get emails from Slowtwitch in general. I was on a Zwift trial when I added my email address, then joined Zwift for real a few minutes later. Then I posted a "Thank you!" message in the original thread. My reply was https://forum.slowtwitch.com/...ost=6799544#p6799544 . My "thank you" post was three hours before the "we hit 1000" post.

I never received the "You're in" email. I checked my spam folder and saw nothing there.

It's not a huge deal if I miss out on the free food pod, but... This was the thing that pushed me over the edge to sign up for Zwift as my trial period was running out. So I thought it was worth asking if I did something wrong.

No e-mails for me. I signed up as a new zwifter by clicking on the link in the other thread (though not sure I was logged into my Slowtwitch account when I did, so perhaps that was the issue?) In any event, I do have a new Zwift account, but no other follow-up e-mails regarding footpod, or being in on time.

you can't be on the free trial. you have to be a subscriber. a new or existing subscriber. a "subscriber" in zwift's parlance means you're a customer. someone who's dating zwift, but not yet committed, is not a subscriber. subscribe, you get the foot pod.

for ALL of you who are in this boat - you think did what you need to do for your footpod, but you haven't gotten an email from zwift - send me an email. not a PM. not a post to this thread. an email. you all know my email address, right? it's slowman at the domain you suspect it probably is. tell me the following:

1. you've been a zwifter, you pay every month.
2. you established a new zwift account, you're on free trial.
3. you established a new zwift account, you're paying (not on free trial).
4. something else (in which case, tell me the story).

i'll answer every one of you, and i'll make sure you get your foot pod. just, by EMAIL.

LATE ADD: when you send me your email, tell me if you use a different email for your zwift account and, if so, what it is.

Same thing here. I received your email saying I was one of the 1000 lucky Slowzwifters. I am currently an active Zwifter (and I have been for the past few months), I updated my shipping address and the @Zwift domain isn't blacklisted. My slowtwich and Zwift emails are both the same.

I just sent you an email.

I got the Zwift e-mail. Not a current subscriber, but have used Zwift in the past. Here's what they said.

"Hey Brett,

Thanks for being part of the Slowtwitch community on Zwift! You’re one of the first 1,000 to sign up for a free Zwift RunPod.

To qualify for a free Zwift RunPod you need to upgrade your account to a paid subscription. Once subscribed you will need to log in to your My Zwift account and update your shipping address.

Please complete these two steps by December 4th. RunPods will begin to ship to eligible Zwifters the week of December 10th.
See you on the road.
The Team at Zwift"

It makes sense to me that they want me to be a paid subscriber as there'd be no other reason for me to need a foot pod if I didn't have a zwift account.

yeah. basically, that's it. i did check something. i asked whether anyone who "activates" the paying part of their subscription gets full credit for the any unused part of the free trial period, and the answer is yes.

so, if you milk the trial period to the end, then subscribe, you get the same benefit is if you immediately subscribe. everybody gets the trial period. just, you're likely to get your foot pod, or get it faster, if you subscribe more quickly.

1 month subscription is $15 USD. Still cheaper than a footpod + shipping.

On another note, if I already had a shipping address + active subscription, could it be the reason why I didn't get the email from Zwift? since I already had all the required info for them to ship the footpod?

to all of you who haven't received your foot pods and think you should - most of you emailed me - i'm checking status. there are about 3 dozen hard cases. yours is one. so, i'm looking that up now. give me a couple of days on this. hopefully we'll get you all sorted.

just one thing: i think the term of art is gift with purchase. just, you don't have to have made a new purchase. you get the foot pod if you're an existing zwifter. but, it's not a gift for riding the free trial period. if you don't upgrade your free trial to a paid subscription, no foot pod. if you have a zwift account, but you stopped paying, no foot pod. if they're not charging your credit card, don't expect a foot pod.

Same. I hope I didn’t take a spot from one that could use it. I was a paid zwift user but switched to TR, and occasionally use zwift run when on the treadmill. Makes sense it’d be for paying customers, just didn’t see that when I signed up.

Talk about destroying a good thing - people it's pretty clear your either a current Zwift subscriber or not - if you are and you got in on the deal the pods are IN THE MAIL. If not then you lost out plain and simple HTFU.

Quit acting like a bunch of turkey vultures sitting on the sidelines trying to get your beak into the meal.

This deal was a great idea by Dan and Zwift but if everyone keeps this up then the future deals will be "Sweet F*&^K All"

People gotta relax............

I received an email from you about the free pod on 11/26 but never received an email from zwift. Should I email you?

I am in NY, guessing these are coming frown the west coast, so taking a little longer.
Did workout Wednesday with my Tickr X and it dropped so many times I was close to quitting, so looking forward to the pod for a better connection!

let's rewind this. this isn't for you. just, for all of you who are in your situation or something similar. i sent out an email. and i said, "zwift has foot pods to give away to the first 1000 who..." and then i gave out the call to action and waited. here's a little inside baseball: this was on a friday, and zwift said, "we'll check back monday or tuesday and see how it's going." and i said, "well, i think i'll stick closer to my computer." because i know you guys! in this narrow instance my instincts were right: the 1000 foot pods were gone in 45 minutes. those 1000 foot pods were gone even before all of you got the email.

more than 500 of you have your foot pods already. they're winging their way across the country, and the world. this was a worldwide thing. now...

i've talked to zwift and i think we'll be able to give some more away (more on this below). but, there are 3 or 4 things i'd say, in general, and this is not just specific to zwift and foot pods.

1. we're going to do more discounts, flash sales, giveaways. but if we do a flash sale, and you found out about it after the closing of the flash sale, if you don't abuse amazon when you miss their flash sale please don't abuse me. and you - chris - aren't. this is just an email to the whole group. i've got to spend a lot of my day going sideways because people don't read the terms of an offer.

2. there were about 125 of you who signed up for zwift, tried to get a foot pod, but didn't flip the free trial period into a paid subscription. no. you're not going to get a foot pod. but you did keep someone else from getting one. any discount, incentive, inducement, bribe, that i pass under your nose has as its end goal, at some point, you opening your wallet. if you don't ever intend to open your wallet, you're going to be frustrated by my activations here on both your behalf and the vendor's behalf.

3. if you don't value what i value, then you're going to miss a lot. has it become clear to you that i value, right now, the stationary industry? brands like zwift, the sufferfest, rouvy, TR, wahoo, cycleops? especially at this time of year? if you don't hang around the stuff i value - like our weekly zwift events, like the 100/100, my guess is that you are going to miss most of the giveaways, offers, discounts that cross the slowtwitch transom.

4. because of those 125 foot pods that were not triggered by people who never subscribed to zwift after initiating the process, i have more foot pods to give away. and i'm just beginning to give stuff away.

Thanks Dan, Appreciate the response and hopefully your response answers everyone's questions.

The email I was referring to on 11/26 was the email where you said I was one of the 1,000 people who responded in time.
I will sit tight! I was actually going to purchase the milestone pod before the Zwift version was released, but did not due to the free giveaway. So for someone who uses Zwift for biking/running I value this a lot. I also participate on the Thursday group ride when I don't feel like racing, so thanks again for all you do!

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone else is in the situation I’m in regarding the free footpod.
So, I’ve been following this thread and reading others posts about where they live and if they’ve received theirs yet. I’m in Ontario, Canada and fellow Canucks have gotten theirs. I decided to give it a few more days but still no delivery. So I’m wondering if I made the cut. I did receive the e mail stating I’m one of the first 1000 and I have a Zwift account and full one year membership. The thing is, I don’t pay monthly for it as I received my one year membership as part of a cycleops promotion when I bought my trainer in January. Would this affect my eligibility? Maybe I somehow come up in their system as not a paying member? Just curious and anxious to get it lol

Anyone else get this same deal?

Thanks team

here's an email i got yesterday:

"Hi Dan, Well I opened up the mail to a new Zwift pod today. Sorry for bothering you with my email yesterday. Really appreciate what you do!"

here's from the day before:

"Nevermind! I got it!"

i've gotten a lot of these, and i'm getting these after said person first asks me to chase down where their foot pod is. x100 or so. therefore, i'm only checking on this about once per week. because i have my day jobs. i know you understand. near the end of this week i'll check up again.

I received my widget. Thanks for that.

I tried it for the first time earlier this week and I have questions. Many questions.

1. Calibration. How is that supposed to work? You calibrate the thing against an unknown, i.e. a treadmill of unknown precision. You can't pair it with your watch to calibrate it on the track or using GPS like you can with an old-school Garmin footpod. So what gives?

2. Calibration 2: My Zwift settings are metric. Most treadmills are imperial. When I calibrate it will tell me to run at a certain speed in km/h. Mental math conversion to miles. 40 seconds later new speed. More mental math. That happens once more. I realize I made a mistake in the math, and go and look up the proper speeds in miles. Re-calibrate and now it asks me for different speeds. What is this? A mental acuity test?

3. Dropouts. This is the most serious one. Everything seems fine, until I hit a tempo workout and start running at 4:15min/km (6:50min/mile). Works for a while, then all of a sudden my guy stops. Move iPad around a bit, and he starts shuffling again. Keeps happening all the time until I slow down again. It works better if I keep the iPad closer to the widget, but that's not really practical. I suppose it has something to do with the 'mill generating more RF interference with higher speeds, but it's annoying. According to Google I'm the only one suffering from this, or am I?

So now that many of us have had our footpods for a few days or more, what are some initial impressions of Zwift running? I started this past July using it, after 20+ years of running outside and never going near a treadmill. I told myself I was going to commit to trying it for 6 months, and at this point I think I'll continue to use the running workouts on zwift, though I haven't found the group runs to be all that interesting. I live in a major city with sidewalks becoming more and more crowded all the time (especially with all those new escooters lately), making it harder and harder to get in any sort of interval work outside, which was my main reason for taking the plunge into indoor running earlier this year. I find that if perched on the treadmill tray I have a zwift workout going on one tablet and a second tablet next to it with netflix/prime video downloads, I can make it 35-45 minutes without going completely batty but can't see myself ever doing anything much longer then that indoors.

I started running on Zwift back when it was still beta and you had to click on a special spot on the main pairing screen. I just looked and I have ran 1,099 miles, including a stupid Thanksgiving Treadmill Marathon last month (Never again, ha). I have no problem running on the treadmill, and runs up to 2 hours are no problem for me. I usually run while listening to my ipod with zwift running on my tv. There are times I find myself staring at my avatar navigating the course and times I don't even look at the screen for quite a long time. I mainly just boot it up for a little distraction and to put the mileage I would already be running to use by getting new gear unlocked. Running on Zwift has not made me run anymore than I would have, but I do think it has made me run indoors more than I would normally have done.

I also have never done a Zwift running workout. I just do what is on my plan given by my coach. I guess it is interesting for me to think about though, on one hand, if Zwift made us pay extra for running (on top of what we pay to bike), I would not pay it. Yet, every single run I do indoors I am firing up Zwift Running because I do really like it and it does provide a fun distraction.

Now I have used my new Zwift Run Pod only once, and it even though I calibrated it, it seemed to be all over the place. The Garmin Foot Pod I borrowed/stole from my friend has been much more steady on the paces.

It is horrible - and it’s been made worse with their recent “3 step†calibration procedure. I’ve had the MilestonePod (now the Zwift pod) for a year. It’s never been perfect, but if you were doing a steady run and calibrated it then you were usually within .1-.4 of your treadmill speed. Now, with their latest update I’m never within .5 of what my treadmill is set at. I’ve never had a run come within .45 miles of what my actual distance on the treadmill was. And it’s just all over the place. I’ll be steady at 8.0 and see anything from 5.6 to 10.1.

Not an expert but will try to explain how I understand it

1. Calibration - it uses the speed of your treadmill against the speed that Zwift is asking you to run at for three different speeds - so I understand it if your treadmill is totally out of calibration (there are videos on you tube how to test your treadmill calibration) then your pod will mirror that - however the speed on zwift will reflect the speed that is showing on the treadmill. Kind of double dutch talking.

2. Settings - doesn't zwift allow you to change to imperial and metric within you profile settings? Have a read of your treadmill manual as I found there was a way to change it to metric from imperial on my treadmill.

3. Dropouts - This is a bug within the Zwift program and has been documented - the Facebook Zwift Runners Club has spoken about this issue to - Zwift is aware of this bug and a fix is in the works.

But that's kinda pointless isn't it? I want Zwift to tell me how fast I'm really running. For me, that's one of the plusses of using Zwift as an 'abstraction layer' over top of the treadmill. The treadmill is just a dumb belt with a knob to make it go faster, and Zwift figures out how fast I really go.

Look at it this way: if my workout say "4km at 4:15-4:20min/km" it would be great if I could just find the speed on the treadmill where I go 4:17. At that point I don't care what the number on the treadmill says, because that's bogus.

I don't own a treadmill. I use shitty gym treadmills, and I couldn't find a metric/imperial switch in the 30 seconds I looked for it. And I could of course temporarily change my units in Zwift, but that sounded like a drag and I thought I could do the math.

Reason I'm bringing this up is not because I can't solve all this - of course I can. I bring it up so somebody at Zwift (Hi Jordan!) reads this and thinks about it. Because the user experience wasn't seamless, and I hope Zwift aims for it to be seamless.

That's good to hear. Obviously my google-fu was weak. However, I also own a Stryd power widget and that has been rock solid in Zwift. So there's that.

It took 3 tries to complete the calibration because of dropouts with my iPad. I have started a couple of Zwift runs but had to stop due to dropouts after just a minute or two. I haven't used the footpod since, but will try again if Zwift provides an update that addresses the issue.

Not sure, but I am having similar issues with Apple TV and iPhone, which is how I Zwift with my bike. Maybe it has to do with distance from the pod?

My first run was fine using iphone, just a 15 second lag from when I started running to when my avatar started moving. Second run on iPhone dropped 45 seconds in. Third finally got the pod connected to the Apple TV Bluetooth, but it dropped when I started running and never reconnected so I turned it off after 5 min.

Have just been simultaneously recording my treadmill runs with my fenix 3, only off by .01-.02 miles from the treadmill distance after 30 min, too bad I can’t use that for Zwift!

I am going to start up my Zwift runs next week using my Tickr X as a foot pod, the connection is lost a lot. I had a coupon to get the foot pod for $15 but it expired on 12/31. Waiting for another good coupon and will probably buy one. I really need a good performing footpod over my TickrX Heart rate monitor.

In Canada as well and still waiting - postal strike probably doesn't help matters.

Tried to make due using my Apple watch but that's just an exercise in frustration. Guess i'll have to order a footpod from Zwift and if the free one ever shows up I'll have a spare.

ETA: Just tried the Zwift online store - that apparently doesn't work at the moment. :(

Nothing yet for me in the frozen north either 😭
Still holding out a little hope but will maybe just go ahead and order one in a few weeks.

When/if your footpod arrives, download the Milestone app on your mobile and get the firmware updated. I had horrible drops on my first runs until I ran the update.

Enjoyed mine for all of one run... one at the gym with Zwift and then part of an outside 9 miler... got home and the underlace part was there but the actual POD was gone.

Not sure what happened of course but if I buy another one and I probably will... might tape it or something.

Just got mine.
I'm pretty excited to try it out. I just started my 10k training program this week. With the weather in midwest, it looks like i'll be logging ~30 miles on the treadmill this week. I was going to cancel my zwift sub because I'm fine with TR. Hope this makes treadmill runs more bearable.

Mine showed up yesterday. Thanks again Dan, both for the promo and following up to get pods to everyone!

Received mine on Saturday, Thanks Dan/Zwift!

Finally did a workout Wednesday this morning with no disconnections and a fairly accurate treadmill reading, hopefully it continues to work this way.

I also downloaded Milestone App to upgrade firmware.

Got mine and did a little walk/jog in Zwift's Central Park yesterday. Confirmed that I thought my treadmill readings were off. Made the treadmill halfway tolerable.

If anyone gets bored of theirs, let me know. Signed up for the deal, but think I renewed my Zwift membership late.
