Bomb Control Laws and Legislation
This whole situation in Austin is sad. It angers me. Its time for the people of this nation to wake up and demand stricter bomb control legislation. People shouldn't be allowed to just go out and make/get a bomb. If nothing else, require them to be 21 before they can access a weapon such as this.

You've given me an idea.

We just need to implement the same controls for guns as we do for bombs. They can't be sold and you have to make your own.

What a good analogy.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

Bombs cant be bought at walmart. Perhaps thats why bombings are relatively rare? You made a really strong argument for making weapons designed to kill, illegal.

Pro tip, poke holes in your own arguments before you make them. It helps you avoid the silly ones.

Two people were shot in Toronto on the weekend. Clearly gun control laws have failed us!!!

I read that too quickly and initially thought you said "Bombs can be bought at Walmart." I was going to respond - "Sure, at the Mogadishu Walmart!"

I would poke a few more holes in this argument. ;)

I'm not an explosives expert by any means, but could one not buy the materials they need to make at least a crude explosive device at Walmart? Fireworks, ammo (gunpowder), gasoline, propane, fertilizer, batteries, electronics, etc.? Somebody with some pent up anger, applied chemistry knowledge, and a bit of MacGyver-esque engineering skills could probably find a hundred ways to blow stuff up with Walmart products. It might not be C4 or plutonium, and Walmart probably doesn't have a Claymore special going these days in aisle 5, but an individual with the right mindset and knowledge could create things that could do some damage.

In a way, it's kind of like meth - how somebody came up with a way to get high that involves Sudafed, diesel fuel, and some other stuff is way beyond me. I dropped out of evil medical school way before those lessons.

Of course you can buy bomb components almost anywhere. You can make guns too. But, like you, most people have no idea how and thats probably a good thing

Didn't occur in an Austin high school, so no need for all of that outrage and sadness.

Unless you want a visit from your local FBI office, I suggest you do not do this. But, if you were to google how to make a bomb you would find countless sites with step-by-step directions, making the entire process quite simple. This is not to challenge the guns v. bombs analogy, simply to point out it is disturbingly easy to learn how to do this.

Im aware, i learned quite a lot as an interested young man. I just liked learning things, had zero intention of making any. I also had someone in my family who was a demolitions expert in the army. He told me a couple crazy things.

Not true! In this case, the bad guy with a bomb stopped the bad guy with a bomb! So, we need to arm bad guys with bombs, right?
