Hello
The 3T Difflock Inner Spline Support of my custom IA1 needs replacement
the threading got somehow screwed while maybe bolting too often and too hard I suppose

I was going to order that parts directly from 3T, just need confirmation that's the right thing to order, or any other suggestions

DIFFLOCK MECHANISM WITH ROUND RAILS

That's it. The Difflock with oval rails uses the same center section, only the caps are different. I only mention it because I think Felt has just oval rail version left - which work if you have the original round caps.
Felt and 3T as well as 3T's North American distributor carry these parts.

Walk those bolts in equally from both sides with 4mm+ of engagement for each bolt before adding torque. If you simply run one bolt down to 7Nm then try to install the other side you'll have pulled the internal spline barrel over to one side and have inadequate thread engagement to torque the other. Just like a stem faceplate you need to approach the proper torque equally with equal engagement.

Dave,

Any chance you have the the whole part for round rails or just the center piece (I still have my caps) that I can buy and pick up in Orange County today? Mine's shot and getting ready to leave out of town this week with my bike and looking at my options.

The 3T website, not sure if I'm getting this from overseas. This is for an AR3

Thanks,

Bill

Bill,
Yes I have these in our office in the USA.
The webstore is primarily for countries where we have no distributor, it ships from our warehouse in Italy. It would be costly and take a few days to get.

Hi Dave- found your post as I was looking for the same part that the original poster needed. Do you have any more? The 3t website is out of stock. Thanks!

The 3T website is just a platform for selling inventory from the warehouse in Italy. The part is available from Felt (ignore the oval caps and re-use your round caps) or 3T dealers via 3T Bike North America or Vittoria North America.

Racing IM Barcelona with duct tape around my seat clamp isn't a great look...

TriathlonLab in Redondo Beach, CA has a few of these in stock kept messing mine up. Don't use a torque wrench and just go by feel.

Hey Dave - sadly no joy with 3T. They want me to buy the whole mechanism again - I have already purchased new seat caps because mine kept falling out ($65). Any other ideas for Canada?

Hi Kate,

I wish I could help you but I have no source for the parts you need nor a connection to either brand (Felt, 3T) anymore.

Perhaps a longer bolt will improve the retention of the cap vs. tape.

In NZ I was able to contact the 3T importer who didn't have any caps in stock, but got some from 3T in about a week. If I recall correctly they were about $25NZD or around $15USD

I stripped one of the holes few months back.

I had someone retap it and bought a larger screw. Been riding like that ever since and haven't experienced any issues.

Could be worthwhile to check out in the interim while you wait for the parts.

^^+1 did the exact same thing... on both sides... not my favorite seatpost clamp. The advice about walking it in from both sides is key but I still managed to strip the first side doing just that the week of a race. Tread carefully.

Yes, actually more or less at the same time I wrote you, they charge 25 USD for shipping here... so 90 USD and not sure if I would pay tax over that (I'm thinking yes).

Had the same problem yesterday. Fortunatelly could temporally thread an M5 spring insert and got some miles left until I can find a replacement or some alternative solution. Trying to solve this ;

1- order original replacement part from 3TSKU: 30049
2-order oval rail replacement from 3T 30050 and use my actual round rails caps
3- drill though the whole piece and use M4/M5 bolt and barrell bolt or reduced quickrelease

any other practical thoughts?

It's not clear to me what problem you're trying to solve. If your original 3T seatpost clamp broke or the threads on the bolts stripped, just replace it with new. However, don't torque the bolts in the round rail unit to 7nm (which is probably what's stamped on it). My experience is it may strip the threads, which was the problem I had. When I replaced I only torqued to 5nm, which is the spec on the oval rail unit. Been good for 3 years with no more issues.

Hello Rick,
yes, that´s what happened, this is the second kit one of the threads stripped. I live in argentina and getting this spare part home is quite expensive (U$D 170).
Thinking this mechanism works by pressing the round rail with the caps I might replace the two bolts for a passing throught bolt and nut.

3T difflock with round rails U$D65
Shipping to ARG tax excl. U$D65
Customs Import/Tax U$D40
TOTAL U$D170

What if you just buy an used 3T seatpost? I harvested the one on mine (previous one had a striped bolt) from an used seatpost bought for $40 ish.

I'd imagine there's someone in Argentina looking to offload a 3T post?

If you want to buy a brand new mechanism, I'd think that purchasing from Europe would be the way to go? At least you'd pay less for shipping (~$25 as opposed to $65).

Thanks echappist,

I don´t expect lot´s of Felt IA used seatpost arround, and probably difflock thread won´t be at it´s best shape.

you are right about shipping from europe, it´s 20 EUR vs 65 USD but saddly 3T official european webstore does not ship to argentina.

You don't need a Felt IA seatpost, because the part in question is interchangeable.

For instance, I have a Felt AR road bike with a proprietary Felt seatpost that uses Difflock.

Barely two months into ownership, I stripped one of the Difflock bolts while doing some minor fit adjustments.

I bought a used 3T Ionic seatpost for ~$40. Cheaper than the $70 or so for buying just the difflock mechanism.

So see if anyone is selling Ionic seatposts, as that seatpost also uses the Difflock mechanism.

I saw falt has anounced official launch of the IA 2.0, the image and GTN´s video show a new seatclamp, I will wait and see if it´s compatible to the actual seatpost.
