Congrats. What race was it? Guess the broken rib didn't slow you down!

CAMTRI championships (doesn't that sound FANCYDANCY?) dunno honestly. Literally the first long distance triathlon in Cuba. Only 90 maybe in the long (including relays) and only 3 women so it would have been hard not to finish in the "money". :)

now, where else in the world can a 54 yo do a (albeit long, 4.2 km swim, 45km run, but still) a race with only 3 other women and come in first? we all remarked to each other at the start - all we have to do is finish! terminar es ganar! but still....never in a million years...

i'm actually in negotiations for the story (a pinch isn't going to work here, i'm going to need a slap upside my head to keep it from popping from the ego :)) so holding off on it for now in the event i am precluded from posting it.

Hey Kathy, when you say it was 'the first' do you mean it was the first long distance one to be run, or this one was the first time it's been run?

Because that would make it even MORE f'ing awesome if your name is FOREVER going to be the first one on the leaderboard! (I really really hope that's the case!)

Like Patti said, of course it was real and don't you dare sell yourself short!! You did the distance and you beat the field. That's how it works. :-)

Congratulations. On an off note, I have a friend (US citizen in San Francisco) that is interested in visiting Cuba this summer. Do you have any suggestions for airlines, hotels, local transport, tour guide etc. that she can look into?
