The MARTINI SHIV is finally done.......
The custom painting process on my Martini Shiv is finally done!!!!!! I should have the frameset in my hands next week. Once again, an amazing thank you goes out to Tyler from Censport Graphics for his amazing craftsmanship, time, and effort! Also thanks to Tai for the help with the S-Works decals. Many of you have already seen a lot of these photo's but I wanted to post everything from the beginning design concepts to the end.... I'll let the pictures do the talking..... Enjoy.

My Initial Sketch...

Design Idea's with Tyler...

Decal ideas using a collage I made from old Porsche Factory Racing Posters....

You all know what a stock Shiv looks like.....quite boring if you ask me :)

Let the painting begin....

Trying to decide which decal....

Aerobars....

Fork....

More paint and other decals going on.....

Clear coat is finally applied.....

Spectacular! It looked great at every paint stage, too... If you had have stopped at any point, it would still be cool.
Next up... Full build pics!!!

Just curious, did the paint add much weight?

This is so full of win. I'd be terrified to ride it with that quality of a paint job, but bikes are meant to be ridden, so rock on.

mmmmm.... yummy.

The question of who is right and who is wrong has seemed to me always too small to be worth a moment's thought, while the question of what is right and what is wrong has seemed all-important.

Beautiful bike paint job.

Question: Was the stem/handlebar top cap meant to be painted without the handlebars or a shim to lift it to its dressed height? I.e. w/ the cap on but no bars, all the stripes line up. Now, w/ the bars in place, there looks like a slight jump or discontinuity in the stripes.

Still love it though!

Any recommendations on what components I should build with? I was thinking Sram Red and really like the limited edition tour lte in the black and yellow I just think the yellow decals will clash. How easy would it be to remove the decals? I know they are cleared over so it would be another repainting project. I don't know if I can wait that long since I want to ride the bike! otherwise I'll probably just get the standard Sram Red but I prefer something unique :)

that is truly a piece of art. absolutely beautiful.

As far as a build... I would say either a Zipp Chrono or Vision Trimax crank with SRAM red components and Nokon cables. Don't do anything cheesy like a colored chain.

Given the first rate job you've done so far, I am hesitant to second guess your aesthetics...

I can't tell you how many different levels of cool that project is. Makes me wonder what my Transition would look like in the "pig pink" color scheme from the 917 days...
I haven't painted a frame in a number of years. And that number is big: My scheme was a neon fade. On steel.
Stupid question: Did you strip the stock paint job, or spray over it?

It's simple, but it isn't easy.

The Macca quote was from the NBC coverage. I think it was shortly after he was discussing his relationship with Craig Alexander. I sort of paraphrased his description of the conversation:
"When I got to Kona, the German media kept asking me if Andreas was unbeatable this year, and I said, 'Absolutely, I don't know why I train.' "

Yea, seriously...the bike is like a pair of Nossa's, except ten million times cooler. I would almost be afraid to ride it, both because I'd HATE getting it dirty and would have a problem justifying it being between my weak-ass legs.

Since you have gone this far you almost have to repaint the sram red to match perfectly. I would repaint it all the dark navy, then redo the red logos red. No one has ever seen navy Sram Components. This would take this bike to the highest level possible.

1-Re-do the Zipp logo's the same way you did the "s-works" to match. That would look amazing.

Congrats on an amazing build. I just hope the hoopty next to you in transition never falls over on it.

We only sell it in Europe where people will "get it". If enough people ask their US Felt Dealers for one, maybe we can convince them to carry it here, too.

Felt LeMans is the model name. The idea actually came from the Ford GT era cars, but it works for generations of race fans.

With "3 on the tree" and Nexus IGH hub, its the bike that gets the most use in my garage lately...
