Listening to the Pixies right now, In particular: "Planet of Sound" (over and over again) which is making my ears bleed, at work!

Best damn band of the 80-90's

(well, them and Drunken Boat, Sonic Youth and Nirvana).

Rock!

I made a new iPod playlist yesterday for trainer workouts. The theme is songs with a high adrenaline/fear factor. It's got a heavy dose of the Pixies (all from Surfer Rosa) and Rage Against the Machine (nobody is as pissed off as Zach de la Rocha). I had a great workout last night. As somebody who hates indoor workouts, this could be one of my best training devices, yet.

They rocked on Letterman last night. Sounded just as good as they did 12-14 years ago.

I've always had a secret crush on Kim Deal (being a bass player myself).

Now I'm more of a Melissa Auf Der Maur man.

I wouldn't qualify it: Pixies are one the best damn bands, period.

Joey Santiago could flat out play.

I also like Frank Black and the Catholics.

Slightly different musical genre, but Hole used to have a smoking hot female bass player... I don't remember her name though

Then of course there's Chicago's own girl drum/bass hard rock outfit: Evil Beaver... http://www.ridethebeaver.com/

A friend here at work saw them last night at The Hammerstein and was absolutely blown away.

Unfortunately I already made plans for Saturday night.

I hope we all get a full concert report from you Bryan!

PS Somehow this thread (like most ST threads) has turned into yet another "Hottie Thread." Sigh. A lot of dudes out there not getting laid regularly. I can't imagine that. Kinda makes me sad for 'em all.

Don't worry, there's always AC/DC!!! (or as a Oz tabloid once said: "More Songs About Humping and Booze" - obvious T-Heads reference)

SAC - the Strokes are a catchy fad band, but Jack White is the real deal. Give a careful listen to their albums -- he's got a lot of talent and a pretty broad range. dresses funny, though.

One of my all time favorite bands. I named my bike Allison after the Bassanova song and had a kitten named Mr. Grieves for a short time. I think I've seen Frank Black play about 5-6 times.

Some favorites:
  • Caribou - my all time fave
  • Vamos
  • Cactus
  • Crackity Jones
  • No. 13 Baby
  • All Over the World
  • Subbacultcha
  • Hey
  • Is She Weird
  • Motorway to Roswell
  • Allison
  • the Sad Punk
  • Into the White

One day I'll meet that girl with No. 13 tatooed on her tit

<sigh>

OK - I admit it, I'm getting low on swim/bike/run-related lyrics

Gee, with a screen name like "Dire Wolf" I'd think you go Grateful Dead on us here ...

Alabama Getaway
Before I have to hit him, I hope he's got the sense to run

Bertha
I had a hard run, running from your window
I had a run in, run around and a run down
Run around the corner, corner, Lord ran smack into a tree

I Need A Miracle
Can't get around and I can't run away: I need a miracle every day

Jack Straw
Ain't a bed can give us rest now, you keep us on the run
Ain't no place Ben's gonna rest now, while Shannon's on the run

Looks Like Rain
Run me round, make me hurt again and again

Red Car
If you run as fine as you look, where could we not be by dawn
If you run as fine as you look, God knows you must run all right

Sugaree
And if that jubilee don't come, maybe I'll meet you on the run

Ship Of Fools
And all that could not sink or swim were just left there to float

Alas, no references to bikes ...

Randymar - awesome advice. I did a whole string of Dead quotes earlier. I'll get back to them, I'm sure. Some of those "run" quotes are pushing it a bit. Just having the word run isn't quite enough.

Tibbs - my vote for best screamer goes to Zack de la Rocha from Rage Against the Machine. Bob Mould had some good ones, too (Husker Du)

Jaylew and I already discussed that the pixies are one of the best bands ever on a previous thread. He's old school pixie's fan, I didn't see where he ripped the manchester boy's , I thought they had a good scene back in the day, I dig that hammond organ that was used by many a manchester band.
