to each their own, but with all those spacers and a positive rise stem on one of the bikes with one of the lowest if not the lowest stack means that your on the wrong frame…i'm just saying...

is that in addition to your P4? One of your frames wouldn't happen to be a 54 or 56 that you would like to get rid of would it? =]

My stable has a P3C, a P4 and a Felt AR1. Nice stable, eh? All 51cm. Now that I've got the P4 dialed in a bit, I'm quite pleased with it. But I can't see parting with the P3C. I have in mind that she'll remain my long course bike, but as I get more miles on the P4, I can't see why I wouldn't use it regardless of the course.

Why did you chose the AR1 over an S3 or an R3? Just to mix it up a bit?

Because if I had to deal with another bike that used the Cervelo ICS cable routing system, I might just hang myself. That plus Felt is a sponsor of the team I'm on and SuperDave helped me score this awesome Garmin team frame. I've had it for about 2 weeks now and I get stoked every time I ride it. Very impressive machine.

I probably, no not probably, do have the most worked over and white trash P3 out there. I'm really hard on bikes, wish I had a pic of the yellow one I had for 6 years before this one. Takes a lickin, but keeps on tickin...Notice the black electrical tape to hold on the pump, that alone is 3 years old. I think I still on the original chain too...

Dude, if that were a real white trash P3, it would be sporting a front basket with a 12 pack of Natural Liight, a carton of generic smokes and a big bag of Cheetos.

Street Cred Bro!!

Get with it......

That is the kind of disc wheel that is easy to make fun of as it sits stationary, but when you see it in motion, it fucks with your head and makes you crash as you become hypnotized.

Man oh man, how can you ride either of those bikes without sliding off the seats. Seriously, get a proper bike set up. Those seats are just wrong. You'll be using so much of your upper body just to stay on the bike.

Nice bikes. I am new to road bikes, still researching for the first. Are most of these bought as a frame and parts are added as the rider preference or are they be bought "off the floor"? I guess that is a general statement for most tri-bikes and riders.

If you are buying a bike brand new, by a long way the cheapest option is to buy a complete bike, that is, frame, group set (gears, brakes etc that make the frame go somewhere) and wheels.

The wheels won't be race wheels, but usually good quality training wheels.

There are two options:
1) A road bike, which you can add clip on aero bars to.
2) A time trial bike.

For example, the poster above with the two cervelos. The road bike is the white one, and the other bike is a dedicated time trial bike.

There are some good articles on slowtwitch main site about choosing a bike.

Once you get the initial complete bike, the next thing most people purchase is a pair of race wheels, that are usually lighter but most importantly more aero-dynamic then training wheels.

Yep. There's a very important reason. It's an excuse to keep the bike. ;-) Seriously, the more time I spend on the P4, the more I can't wait to see what kind of 112 split I could do on it.

The P4 is a lighter bike. I know a lot of folks think that doesn't matter, but it can. I've only done one race on it but my performance relative to a bunch of folks I race against quite frequently was pretty substantially better. The only thing that should give you pause is if you like to mess with your bike a lot and do your own work. It's a royal pain in the ass to work on. The internal cable routing scheme just plain sucks. There's no sugar-coating it. I've changed out bars and done a few things a few times that required me to re-cable the bike and it's a horrendous nightmare. With the learning curve, it becomes just a plain nightmare. And as has been said in many threads, the rear brake is pretty much just an ornament.

The P4 is like being married to a gorgeous, glamourous woman. She can be a royal pain in the ass to keep her happy, but oh my, when you get to ride her ...!

That's great information, I appreciate it. I know aero trumps weight but if you can have both, why wouldn't you. And as for the rear brake, I used to own a Zipp 2001 back in the day so I'm used to a token rear brake :)

Funny thing is the R3 had not been ridden but for about 5 miles at that time and last night I actually had adjusted the seat and tilted it up a little more. The seat angle on the P3 is not that bad and I do not have any soreness, I have been wanting to mess with it but just haven't had the time. It is comfortable for me so why mess with it? Thanks for pointing it out though when I get a chance and have some time to play with my position a little more I will tweak it.

I actually raise & lower the cockpit by 1-2 spacers depending on the time of year and type of race... all the way up when i'm fat and not racing any in the spring, plus my one IM where I valued comfort more than for shorter races; in the middle (1 spacer above & below) for Oly or HIM when I need to save a little for the run; and all the way down for sprints/TTs with short or no run. Sorry.

See, now why couldn't Cervelo come up with cool colors or better paint schemes like this? Personally, white bikes are my least favorite bikes but the ultegra 2010 frame was a little more annoying than the DA color I thought. So I went with the white/red stripes. Ruby red is sweet! Was this painted at Cervelo's official "warranty-safe" paint shop?

http://www.airephix.com/ his name is Rich. He normally paints really far out there scenes with skulls, swords and birds of prey on Motorcycles and cars. This was really tamed down for him. I actually had to ask him not to surprise me with any screaming skulls with bats flying out of their eye sockets racing down my down tube. He actually ruined the bike. It is way too nice to ride now. I just look at it.

it's the World Champion version so it has the rainbow stripes of the WC jersey painted on it. cervelo did a limited edition run of them after fabian cancellara won his first world time trial championship on his P3C. you can find them on ebay every once in a while. people complain about cervelo's boring paint schemes but they've done limited edition frames like this one, the olympic rings on the S3, and the 100th anniversary giro d'italia RS.

What saddle bag were you using in that pic? It looks very compact and a good fit. My rails are about there and I might like to try whatever you had. Thanks!

Here is my ride. I was not the most flexible when I bought the bike and plan on removing spacers this year as I change out componentry. Still a decent drop. Right now it is a SRAM/Campy hybrid.

Why did you buy a P3 if you cant ride it as it was designed? Just wondering.

I was sized and fit by a shop specializing in fitting and I trusted their assessment. The 'fitter' at the time indicated I should continue to work on flexibility, which I have improved on quite a bit. When I purchased the bike, I did not know any better as I was transitioning from being a pure cyclist and had not really paid too much attention to time trial frame setups. I did not care if I purchased a P3/P2/Trek TTX/etc. I assumed (incorrectly) that going to a reputable shop with a reputable 'fitter' would result in the sale of a bike that fits me properly. I have not gotten around to lowering the front end as I have been comfortable on the setup (completed first 70.3 this year without problems) and have had good results on the bike.

Interestingly enough, the same person who 'fit' me on this bike is still busy 'fitting' people on this board (think Treck SC thread).

Regardless, it is still a very fast bike, I am comfortable, and I plan on making some changes. I don't think I'll ever get down low in the front as some people, especially considering the height of my seatpost...

I don't think the P3 was a terrible choice for you, the Oval bars are about as low of stack as any bar out there. Something with a high stack would probably be a bit better combo for you and that bike.

I'm guessing with a 3T ventus, or maybe any syntace you could cut down on half or more of those spacers.

That makes more sense. Is the fork a carbon post? I would worry more about snapping myself. The same thing happened to me on my first bike. So this one I fit myself nicely on. IMO flexibility has little to do with drop. Really it seems more like just tilting yourself foward more(moving saddle up, lowering front end). How does that seat feel? It hurts just looking at it. Like the other person side I would get a higher stack aerobar(v.t. or p.d. are cheap), that way you could still have the same amount of drop with less spacers.

Here's mine. 51cm frame bought from a fellow forum member, then built up with Red, Bontrager XXX bars, Cosmic Carbon front, HED3 rear with a conversion to HED3 disc performed by another forum member (really cool wheel!). Just under 18 pounds as pictured.

Nice bike. Most Cosmic Carbones have decals with some yellow in them, but I've seen a few like yours that are all white/silver. I that an option from Mavic, some after-market decals, a different model of the Cosmic Carbone?

Maybe you can help: I own a Cervelo P3 (aluminum) which I bought new in 2001. Unfortunately the clamp of the seatpost broke. Since this is my only tri bike I desperately need a replacement.
Does any of you guys know which seat post of newer models could fit? Cervelo Canada and Cervelo Europe couldn#t really help me yet.
Thank you so much and greatings from Germany

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but it seems my English wasn´t good enough here: the part that is broken is the clamp at the top of the seatpost that directly holds the rails of the saddle. In the old P3 i have this is some sort of cast aluminum. This part is broken

P.S. this clamp can be turned 180 degrees from normal road racing position for a more forward tri position.
