I did a lot of masking but only used green painters masking tape. It's a specific type, but I can't remember the name.

For finishing I just used their gloss top coat. It's pretty good, but you do need to do a bunch of layers to get it really glossy. I gave up after 3 and stuck with the matte/satin finish I've got now.
