I sprained my ankle bodysurfing at Magic Sands Beach in Kona the evening before the IM one year in the mid '90s when I was covering the AG race for Inside Triathlon. It was near sunset and I was shocked to see pro Wendy Ingraham show up at the beach the evening before the race. I had my back turned to the surf looking at Wingnut when I get hit by a wave and tossed around.
The ankle swelled up, etc. so I iced it a lot and tried to stay off of it as much as possible but I did do a 40 minute run a couple days later before I left Kona. It was still black and blue a week or two later and I planned to run a marathon that weekend. My friends suggested I visit a doctor who said it wasn't broken and gave me the OK to run if it wasn't hurting. I finished the marathon with no after effects. Listen to your body. Don't continue a run if the pain gets worse and pay attention if the swelling increases. How old are you? I was in my mid 30s then. I would be more conservative now at 59. Good luck,
