"In closing, I wanted to add that my personal opinion is that I am skeptical as to whether Armstrong ever really was a cancer victim/survivor or whether this was another of his scams to fool the world, his followers and those suffering from the disease. While the foundation does incredible work their founder may be a fraud but for the ultimate goal the money is needed no matter what the source."

From this personal story it would be interesting to hear corroboration form other participants...this statement, however in my mind, sort of lessens the impact of the rest of the story. Just my opinion.

Same event, different participant?

I think the other story was from the bus driver.

this could get super ugly(er)...how much did Livestrong spend on LA's defense over the years? I remember reading that their legal expenses were way over the norm for a big non-profit...

For sure we've only witnessed the tip of the iceberg as to additional fallout from all of this. As to the legal expense thing, not sure, haven't read anything along those lines...but there's a lot to sift through from many different directions....

Is Johan Bruyneel still going to arbitration w USADA? And if so, can LA be forced to testify?

Damn, that's a cold ass honkey.

Yes and No. he can be asked to be a witness but theres no further punishment USADA can enact if he doesnt show.

can you see any reason Brutneel would still go to arbitration? What could he gain?

He already elected for it; what he gains is a delay in his sentencing, a chance to figure out his finances. work with lawyers on crafting his story and trying to find holes in the testimony of the witnesses. I think its an uphill battle; when the government puts Zabriskie on the stand his testimony alone will be damning, especially with the backdrop of his fathers battle with drugs.

Disgusting....You wanna stop contributing based on what has happened...knock yourself out.

To ask for your money back that you gave years ago? Unbelievable.

More LA myths fall...so much for the "the riders were coerced" defense. DZ and at least one other rider came forward on their own volition.

I dont think its unbelievable; Bernie Madoff's victims are getting some of their money back. I wouldnt be surprised if a lawsuit comes of this. Could it be class action? No idea, but there certainly has been a good bit of discussion.

I could easily see wanting the portion of your donation back that went to defending the LA lie...Floyd had to return his money...

I wonder if any part of pro cycling has been clean?

Wow.

A couple of statements stand out to me...

"The investigations by the prosecutor from Padova, which began in 2010 and should be completed by the end of the month, are in danger of becoming a tsunami as riders and top athletes, such as the Olympic race walker Alex Schwazer (who tested positived for EPO) and other athletes from the biathlon and triathlon..."

and

"That is why the public prosecutor is also considering the charge of money laundering. Around twenty professional teams are alleged to have been involved in this scam over the four-year period 2008-2011. The prosecutor's office have obtained the contracts of all the cyclists who rode in that period for Liquigas, Lampre, Colnago, Geox, Androni, Katusha, Quick Step, CNF-Inox, Farnese Vini, Acqua&Sapone, Astana, RadioShack, Vacansoleil, ISD, CSF, LPR, Diquigiovanni, Tinkoff, Rabobank, Gerolsteiner and Milram to compare them with the contracts deposited with the UCI to see how much money they failed to declare."

This is such a massive Pandora's box, where does it end? How do you prosecute this mess? Like 6 day cycling races filling Madison Square Gardens and Tug of War as an Olympic sport, does the sport deserve to have a "pro" league?

I'm hopeful. Professional baseball survived the Black Sox and other sordidness because it was ingrained into American society. I hope professional cycling will manage to fix itself because likewise there are many, many, many people in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Italy, and Spain for whom cycling is important.

Nice article. That totally blows the "witchhunt" to shit. Also, it is obvious they went out of their way to make sure the "process" was followed. Espcially the DoJ. For those not liking the process, what more could of USADA done to be more than fairt o Armstrong. Armstrong was even getting lawyers to try to have the witnesses lie and yet there were still no leaks of it. Hats off to USADA

Seems as if the UCI couldn't find any loopholes to let him sneak out of this mess.

It was a long time coming. Now that most of the levels of hypocrisy have been exposed, let's fix the sport.

It's funny to read the McQuaid quotes about wishing they could have caught every damn one of them along the way and that the anti-doping effort is so much better today...when the Padua investigation is unfolding and exposing a doping environment that dwarfs what is in the USADA report on Armstrong and company.

Note to Paddy...cycling's shit still stinks even now barreling toward the 2013 season...
