Yeah, but, knowing how big triathletes stables can get, I would've thought they'd avoid the equivalent abbreviation. Were they feeling nostalgic or trying to blot out any remaining memories of its prior use? ;)

actually, that bike wasn't a private reserve. here's QR's history page and that yellow bike, just down from the top, was a PR. if it doesn't have that gusset behind the head tube it's not a PR.

The bike above is a Tequilo I think, but I still think PR stood for Private Reserve.

you're right, PR stood for private reserve. at the time (early 90s) a few of us at QR were amateur wine afficionados and it was kind of an inside joke. that's where that came from.

I have been trying to figure out what that yellow and red bike was, maybe a prototype with those little blue pops along w the red and yellow? We always put the model name on the top tube.
The "Private Reserve" is a reference to wine, courtesy of Steve Santel, QR sales manager in the late 80's to mid 90's.
I guess we thought we were pretty clever, then coming in w the Kilo and TeQuilo...

The first few units in the US will not have the bosses. The bosses will be included on the top tube.

Thanks for the info. I think those bosses wiil allow for some really good and aero storage options on the PR6.

Im a QR fan and im not crazy about it. I saw it at my LBS this week. IMO they could have done a better job hiding the DI2 wires.

We know. The hard part is that you need to keep the junction boxes accessible so that you can charge the battery. Hiding the junction box in some kind of port would cause headaches for most people. It's an area where function needs to be the main priority. We've mounted the junction box in different places on some that we've built up. It's really up to you and your shop.

Well, actually it is. From what I can see in the fairly low-res pics, the front brake is a shimano direct mount (two bosses are integrated into the fork).

I don't think its a huge miss at all. Based on the fact that QR deals with Shimano for all their builds why would they go with a competitor's brake system? Leave it to the customer to decide if they want to add on an after-market product.

because the competitor's brake is better, for the intended purpose. or because the competitor's brake speaks the the market that QR would presume to sell to. or because the QR offers nothing over a Blue, from a marketing perspective, which ships with a TriRig IIRC. Or because the QR offers noting over a real super bike, which are all faster, in the real world.

you're looking at this from the industry perspective... sure it's easier to spec Shimano. But they do things the same way again and again and wonder why everyone rides a Cervelo.

If you want to be an iconic brand, or be a brand regaining its iconic status, you have to do iconic things with the bikes you produce and sell.

It's not even about a competitor's brake system or not. It's giving the customer the choice to use whatever brake they want to use. Why Shimano? Because I can't ever recall a conversation with anyone about Shimano Ultegra or Dura Ace braking performance. It's a new brake to the market that we used and liked. One of the basic things that a bike needs to do is work properly. These brakes work. We made a conscious decision to keep the design and execution as simple as possible so that the consumer can change out wheels easily on their own without having to make a trip to the bike shop. That can't be said for other designs on the market.

What's great about this frame is that you have choices. You can spec the TriRig brake. Or the Magura brake. Or a TRP brake. Or a standard road brake on the fork that you have laying around the house.

Is there any way to hide the junction box and clean it up some? I looked at this bike for 30 min today and just cant get past that part. I know i know but its my OCD. I ride a CD0.1 now and am getting the itch for a new bike. My idea for my next bike was no exposed wires or cables and Di2. I can get over the front brake but the di2 wires kill me.

I'm on a plane right now, so I don't have access to some pictures that I'd like to share.

There are multiple places to put the junction box. The hardest part is that you have to have it accessible to charge the battery. As soon as the conversation switches to hiding it, we take a weight penalty to create that space, a cover, and some small screws to keep a cover in place.

If you email me directly, I'll be able rto more directly address other options. Also, please let me know where you looked at the bike.

I interpreted your previous post to mean you had photos of the Di2 junction box installed in various locations. Was curious to see what you guys tried as I've done many custom di2 builds myself. Want to get ideas for my pr6 build

I'm in the office late and don't have any pics of junction box locations hanging around. We've put them on the stem, behind the stem, on the front of a base bar, on the back of a base bar and on an extension to the inside.

You should ask Callum Millward how he hid the junction box on his PR6- a little bit of sanding on edges and conrners of the junction box made it possible for him to slip the box inside the frame at the top-tube cable port

Thanks for posting! It's helpful to see alternate ways the junction box has been mounted on this bike. The centered-on-stem location shown frequently is relatively clean, though I use a bta hydration system and I could envision it getting soaked endlessly with sports drink in that position.
