Who's got their 2015 race schedule planned out yet?
Since we're in the post-Kona blues period now, how about a fun thread? What are your 2015 race plans and goals?

Racing Goals:
1. Focus on Toughman events - I'm a Toughman ambassador now, and their growing series calendar helps me towards goal #2.
2. Continuing towards my goal of racing in all 50 states and 10 other countries before I die. It's more fun for the family, too. Hooray for racecations!
3. Focus on half triathlons - I did this in 2013, and it really made training simple. I just like the distance a lot. I'm going to go for quality rather than quantity, though - just 4 triathlons.
4. More cycling-specific events - I usually do a few half-marathons and marathons outside of triathlons, but I'm hoping to do some time trials, maybe a gran fondo, and a couple of other big fun rides.
5. Lose some more weight.
6. Volunteer some more.

Racing Calendar:
May 30 - Toughman Indiana - starting the tri season with a favorite from the last couple of years.

June 14 - Challenge Williamsburg - OK, not a Toughman event, but something I had planned as a racecation several months ago. A new state for my race list. I've really enjoyed the Rev3 events, and am looking forward to the Challenge experience. Also looking forward to exposing the kids to some American history.

July 26 - Toughman Minnesota - looking forward to getting back to the home country, as I'm originally from Minnesota. This will be my first time racing in MN.

September 13 - Toughman Championship - I've qualified for it, but haven't done it yet. I'm going to change that next year. This will be my first time in New York state (other than an airport).

October 9-11 - Hilly Hundred - a ride in southern Indiana, including camping and some challenging terrain (relative to the rest of Indiana). Over 100 miles, spread out over a weekend. Should be fun.

November - Monumental Marathon (Indianapolis) - one marathon to finish off the year. They sucked me in with the new 4 piece medal they are starting this year.

Sprinkle in some time trial stuff and some other non-racing related plans, and 2015 gives me a lot to be excited about. What are your 2015 race plans and goals? What are you excited about?

My race calendar simply rolls over from this fiscal year to the next. I kinda like routine. Ditto for my race goals, which are generic enough to roll over.

timberman 70.3

Your going to love Williamsburg and the Toughman Championship. Make sure you sign the kids up for the Toughkids Championship the day before (its a lot more fun watching the kids than racing yourself)

For me for sure unless they don't open registration:

Fly-by-Night Du
AZ DU
Tri-Ridgefield
Rev3 Quassy
Delta Lake
West Point
Skinnyman.

At least 5 or 6 more

Volunteering:
Toughkids Syracuse
Toughkids West Point
Toughkids Championship
Westchester Tri.

in 2011 i did my first one. IMLP i pretty much did nothing after that other than RTB and a thanksgiving race

2012 i didn't do much. timberman half, then pumpkinman half, then reach the beach and thanksgiving race, maybe a duathlon

2013 i did patriot half, mass state oly, mill city oly, timberman half, imwi, reach the beach 4 days later, monster dash duathlon, thanksgiving race, ragnar san diego trail (ultra team), imcoz and a few others

2014 i did mascomaman and challenge ac, rtb, i still have monster dash duathlon for fun and the thanksgiving race

i'll probably try to sprinkle in a marathon somewhere in there as i'm trying to tag my 50 states. i try to get 3 a year and make one of them an ironman.

Pretty much! 2015 is a bucket list year for me which means no triathlon. Going to finally scratch that ultra running itch.

Badwater Cape Fear 51.4 Mile in March

North Face ECS Ontario 50M in July

And then ride my bike for the rest of the Summer :)

  • Winter: A few of local 10K's, probably a few XC ski races through winter. Potentially an early spring 70.3 down south (depends on work sched and winter training).
  • Spring: likely St Croix + IM Texas. I like having some spring targets to get me through the winter
  • Summer: Tremblant 70.3 (local)+ Tupper Lake (local) + Muskoka 70.3 (semi local/optional, depends on family plans) + IM Whistler (family trip). Then 70.3 WC in Austria (qualified at Silverman..will be a guy's trip)
  • Fall: Silverman 70.3 again. Love that race. Close the year off hopefully with a climb up Mauna Kea. Yes, I like half IM racing.

Only two on the books so far, ITU Long Course Worlds in Sweden in June and IMWI in Sept. Still trecovering from getting hit on the bike by an SUV in June and I just had my knee scoped last week. Took on a coach for thi year and will go with what my coach deems smart for races this year . last year was a bust after only three races and getting hit.

Will do lots of road races and pick up several more marathon states (doing 50 states), but need to figure out which ones I'll be hitting next year - the IMs are easier to plan because you have to register so far in advance!

Jan 1 - Tuscobia fatbike race. I broke my arm a week before the race last year, so just crossing the finish will be improvement.

Feb - Birkie, 54K xc ski race. I haven't skied in 20+ years, so this will be a challenge.

Feb/March - Birkie fatbike. I broke my other arm after packet pickup last year....planning on studded tires, flat pedals, and screws in boots for this season - that and bone strengthening, so far the screws and plate are holding up.

March - trail marathon.

May - American Triple T

June - local HIM

June/July - endurance MTB racing to prep for Wilderman

August - Wilderman

Sept - Chequamagon, deferred entry from this year, sprained wrist - fortunately not a broken scaphoid.

Sept - possibly Redman HIM

After a year of racing 70.3s (4) and qualifying for worlds I decided to give an IM a shot.
Starting off the season with Florida 70.3 then a few Olympics in between. Timberman 70.3 then IMMD as my big race for the year.

Goals break 4:39 in the 70.3 2:05 oly and flirt with 10 hours in Maryland.
Well se how it all goes

Did you do the Mascomaman sprint or 1/2. Did the sprint in 2013 with my wife and friend. Fun little race. Will do it again this summer, not sure which one. How was the 1/2, if you did it. We have friends who have a house on the lake right in the Shaker village where the start/finish is so it's really convenient.

Bunch of swim meets. If I'm swimming where I want to be in January / February, then I'll go back home and do Bermuda National Champs in May. They just built a brand new long course pool. Race against all the kids and get my ass kicked!!

gonna try to race 1 or 2 tris in the summer - local events only, I can sign up the week before. All depends how my back feels. If I do, then it'll be a sprint distance and a half-iron distance race - Epic Dartmouth.

Unfortunately, the timing isn't great since the half is only a month after my primary swim target. It may be a case of just going for the swim prime and surviving the rest.

Studying for the CFA, so the first half of the year is always light.

March: Hell of Hunterdon is typically the most fun I get on a bike all year
April: Boston (maybe Battenkill for a weekend double?)
July - NJ State Olympic
August - West Point & IM 70.3 WC's
September - maybe Westchester Olympic to grab an Alcatraz slot

Depending on the result @ IMAZ next month, I'll be adding Kona or looking to do another IM in September/ October 2015

Sadly for the race, I'll be traveling with my track team to a tournament that weekend. I don't do any personal racing during track season. Sometimes, I don't train. It's a tough time of year, in regards to personal stuff. I give the kids all of my attention and energy. Other stuff gets put on the back burner.

Love the concept of a post-race pig roast. Love YellowJacket Racing. Hate 26 yard swims. (But, that's not the issue.)

2015 is 40 years since I started running seriously, so I'm havering about how to mark that..
maybe back to ZA to run the 2 Oceans 35-miler at Easter, have a permanent number in that race reserved for me, but not sure I can finish 35 miles anymore..
or, it's my first year in the 55-9 AG, maybe just race lots and try to get USAT All-American..
or, it is #1 son's senior year and college-picking time, #2 son's first year in HS and we expect a bumpy ride, maybe just stay focused on the offspring and wait for 50 years of running to celebrate ;-)

I second those who encourage their kids to give the youth races a try (e.g., Toughkids -- mine (10 and 8) did Croton last month).

2014 was my first season doing triathlons (40-44AG) since placing 3rd (19 & Under AG) at Long Course Nationals back in 1989! I focused on 70.3's (4) + some Olys (including NJ and Natl's), with a 70.3 PR of 5:02 at Timberman -- loved all of it.

After much back and forth, decided to go for the IM in 2015: 70.3 San Juan; [Still debating 70.3 TX, which did last year and where I have lots of family]; Harryman Oly; 70.3 Eagleman (A race); 70.3 Timberman; IMLV (A race).

This thread might help me identify some others (including running and cycling events), so thanks for starting it!

April 19th - New Orleans 70.3 (early season "A" race)
May 3rd - Trizou Sprint (Fun little sprint with an open elite wave and some prize money. Been 2nd place 3 years in a row now, would love to finally win it)
May 17th - Galena Triathlon ? (Neat little event... I used to think to was a logistical challenge.... but then I did 3 IM branded events last year.... it's nothing)
June 7th - Holiday Lake Sprint ? or Pigman Sprint ... aka the Iowa Sprint World Championships. (I should do Pigman, but HLT is a super challenging hilly run course and fairly hilly bike course that a lot of fun and a cleaner lake)
August 9th or 16th - Steelhead 70.3 or Pigman Long Course... aka the midwest long course world championships (finances might decide this one. I really liked Steelhead, but with Pigman I might even win some money depending on how many pros show up.) I might even do the Olympic just to set a PR at that distance. I've never broken 2 hours.
Oct 10th - Ironman World Championships - Kona (goals....the goal I should have had for my 1st IM... Enjoy the swim, relax, bike even and conservative, but move up, run the whole marathon .... Finish!)

Might try and find a 1/2 marathon in the spring too and try for a PR if I'm running well and healthy.

Lots of great responses so far (and I'm getting all sorts of ideas for 2016, 2017, 2018...).

I agree on the Toughkids races, too - lots of fun! My kids did Toughkids a couple of times, although they're more into soccer nowadays. I've enjoyed volunteering for the Toughkids race in Muncie a few times. It'll be fun to attend the Toughkids Championship! That will probably be a trip for just me and the wife, since it's during the school year, so I'll plan on volunteering. Hope to see you there!

I am signed up for my first Ironman, Coeur d'Alene.

I need to work back to figure out what races I want to do as part of the build - will look to ST to help. Thinking wildflower or oceanside, as well as a few local Portland Olympic races.

In the fall I would like to do Lake Stevens 70.3 or Challenge Rancho Cordova. I will most likely do a fast half marathon in the spring as well.

HarryMan is very hilly. Very tough course. Not for those looking for an "easy" race. The oly is hard, the 1/2 is very hard.
The bike goes around Lake Tirorati. 3 of the sides are uphill.
The run is pretty flatish.

My race schedule is pretty much the same every year, focused on local running races, sprint tri's and an occasional Oly.

I normally start out the year doing running races, building up to the Sarasota Half Marathon in March. After the HM I'll switch my focus more on tri's and do one a month from May through October, but will still throw in a few 5K's between the tri's.

I enjoy volunteering and will work at four or five events a year.

Thinking about changing things up a bit next year by adding a couple of master's swim meets just for fun.

Did you do the Mascomaman sprint or 1/2. Did the sprint in 2013 with my wife and friend. Fun little race. Will do it again this summer, not sure which one. How was the 1/2, if you did it. We have friends who have a house on the lake right in the Shaker village where the start/finish is so it's really convenient.

mattr,

this year was the 2nd year in a row i did the half. i have a love hate relationship with this race.

LOVE:
it's a local race, put on my local folks. all the proceeds go to a different charity each year
they have a professional photographer on the course and GIVE you the photos none of that 79 bucks for 50 photos BS.
the bike course is the toughest bike course in the 70.3 circuit in all of NE (IMO)
the run course runs along the lake, through trails and roads. (it was different each year)
it's relatively inexpensive
hanover is nearby (amazing gelato, you gotta try it)

HATE:
it's run by locals, sometimes things can be a shit show (but they are trying!)
the bike course roads SUCK. first year i flatted 3 times and was in 3rd overall when i had my first flat. the 2nd year they had a real rough patch after a steep downhill. i know 2 bikers who FELL off their bikes. one of the guys i know is an extremely strong bike handler, been riding motorcycles for years and always destroys me downhill.
no medals
shirts are fugly as hell
awards are local blueberries (yeah, that's cool, but i can buy those. i want something i can hang to stroke my own ego when i'm down).

so yeah, if you have a place right on the water, fuck yeah, race it man. in fact, you got a room for me? haha.

hit me up if you go. my friends and i make this race a tradition each year. we stay in hanover and go bar hopping (apps and drinks that is) after the race.

April- Galveston 70.3
May- Colfax Half-Marathon
June- Kansas 70.3? or Boulder 70.3
June- Tri-the-boat Half Iron- Steamboat Springs, CO (beautiful but tough course, great place for a mini-vacation, one of funnest tris I've done to date)
July- Xterra Aspen Valley
August- Steamboat Springs Olympic Triathlon
September- HyVee or Chicago Tri

Looking forward to a fun year and doing a bit of traveling to Texas and the pacific northwest at some point. Any races anyone has done in the northwest that they enjoyed? I'm looking for a july or august event, preferably half-iron, as the july and august event schedule is not necessarily set in stone. Calgary or Lake Stevens look tempting

December - North Face 50k Marin Headlands
March - Oceanside
May - Either Wildflower (again) or the "Worlds toughest 70.3" in Auburn, Ca.
July - Donner Lake Triathlon 70.3 - my absolute favorite race because it's beautiful, family friendly, and has a tough ride (4200' elevation gain with 1200' in first 4 miles). Very family friendly local race.
September - 3rd annual IMLT (hey, I was there ready to go this year!)

Sitting out Vineman this year. Great course. Tough logistics. Plan accordingly when driving in as the traffic sucks.

2015, i will have some bucket races in mind (pikes peak ascent), my yearly tri to guage improvement (sd international) and 2 half marathons next to my house.

But this year I begin a protest... races are too fucking expensive, limiting quality competition.

I am thinking of purchasing my own timing system (5k$ and clock 400$) and holding weekly cheap 5k's aquathlons at about 5$ a pop. They will be limited to 50-70 people so permits are not needed, to be held in park areas.

To celebrate my 40th year - IM France - we'll see how that goes

After that, I would like to accumulate enough ultra points to qualify for the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc - now thats going to be a bit tricky I think, but we'll see what happens in the second half of next year

For my 41st, I think I want to do one of the Haut route bike trips - that will involve some solid negotiating with my better half

I may do local running races and perhaps tri's in Bahrain, AD and Dubai if they fit in

2015 is planning out quite nicely... Major events:

March- Althorp National Duathlon, UK
March- Clumberside National Duathlon, UK
April- Liege-Bastogne-Liege sportive 280km, Belgium (watch the pros the next day)
October- Oulton Park National Duathlon, UK

Rest of the year will be time trialing and 5k and 10k racing, maybe a half marathon later in the year, but to age group for Duathlon is my main target. And a sub 10 hours at Liege
