This has been a long time coming but finally arrived last Friday, so far its been built as standard and ridden in two mini triathlons and a 50k training ride. Not super light but 8.2kg with pedals as pictured.

Super compliant ride, plenty stiff enough and handles surprisingly well for a full blown TT rig.

Tough choice. Here is my CAAD10 in the background.

Thanks and NO WAY, the CAAD10 is "built" the Slice RS is "bought", would be easier to replace the RS at the moment I think. The CAAD10 has the SRAM Red Blk groupo with the limited edition Cannondale Green highlights on it, Hollowgram crankset and a few other nice bits not to mention custom paint its 6.52kg with zipp 202's and 6.82kg with the clinchers I train on and with pedals, cages and garmin sensors. Not bad for an Alloy bike.

Not bad indeed. I used to have a CAAD10. Sold it to buy my Shiv. Really wish I still had it. I would love to build up one of the raw alloy framesets with standard Red, raw alloy Hollowgrams, raw alloy Thomson seatpost and stem and probably Zipp 101s to keep with the alloy theme. Dream bike.

Gorgeous bike... so ugly it's beautiful.

What's the geometry like? From Slowman's superbike comparo it sounded like it was long, low and for short people, but the Cannondale's geo charts make it appear to be even taller/shorter than the regular Slice.

For some reason I highly doubt my wife will let me upgrade from my 2012 Slice.

Not sure about all the GEO do's n dont's But I can say this Im 190cm and all leg. I ride a 56cm CAAD10 with a 0' setback post. I basically have the legs of a 56cm and the torso of a 54cm. The CAAD10 fits me perfect, I used to ride a 2011 HiMod Slice that was a 56cm also (as per Cannondales own fit charts) I did however always feel it was to long but the 54cm Slice just felt to small under me.

This Slice RS is a 54cm which is basically the same as the old 56cm Slice. The stem is adjustable from 70mm to 120mm I have it at the shortest length and the basebar is approx 100mm lower then on my 56cm Slice (yes thats 100mm not a typo, its very very low and not adjustable height wise) the extensions can be raised up to 80mm but kinda looks...........well different when that high.

So far the bike fits me well and is super comfy. Handling is good, definatly different from the Slice but is super stable at speed its just at slow riding around a carpark kinda pace its seems a touch sketchy. It is however very comfy just like the Slice.

Hope this helps.

As a side note, not one person that has seen this bike in person and been able to touch and feel it has mentioned the look of the post. Yes its different but....... in the flesh it doesnt seem to stand out.

Where did they run the front brake cable?

Correct, all cables enter a cable junction ontop of the steerer tube, from this point there not seen again except for the rear derailer loop. Very neat, very fiddly :-)

last night i was in my LBS and i saw my first Slice. it really is amazing. from the front, the bike is paper thin. in fact, it is thin all the way around. its mind boggling. and, i can't believe i'm saying this, the seat post looks ok.

when i first saw the bike, it was the white and green model, the pic posted to this forum. it was horrorific. it made me cry. however, in person, in a color other than white & key-lime, it looks good.

for me, my concern would be fitting. it only has one bottle mount. that means that the seatpost would have to accommodate a gear bag under the seat (my Orbea does not) and i'd have to adapt to a bottle between the extensions. currently i use ski bends and a bottle won't fit. you could use a Torhans straw mount, but it would be a shame to put a bottle before that leading edge.

I will be interested in the OP perspective. To me the Speed Concept is more "fiddly" than any bike (save maybe the P4). Working on it or adjusting it is just a royal PITA. The hidden brakes alone just suck. It looks like Cdale did a good job in hiding the brakes but making them easier to work on. I will be curious to see one in person. The LBS, which saw one at a show, says the stem and cable management is actually really easy to work with.

FIDDLY, for us poor mechanics doing the intiall build, all you END USERS will have no dramas.

Ill say this, if you buy a SLICE RS get a Scicon bag so you can trabel without having to pull down the bike. If you needed to say, remove the bars to get it into a bag or box, youll need to recable all brake and gear mechs.

whoa. so if i was gonna fly, i would probably need to remove the bars, and that means I'd need to recable? thats kinda tough.

cuz i have this fantasy where someday I'd actually get to fly somewhere to race. ;-)

My 2013 Cannondale Slice RS Ultegra Di2 just arrived home. It did take a couple of days for the bike shop to set it up - it's fiddly. I didn't think of the traveling issues. I'd post pictures, but I am new to this forum, and don't know what the protocol is (i don't have my own site to link an image from - if someone has an FAQ, i'd enjoy that). I have always ridden 60cm Cannondale bikes, and this one is of course a 58cm. So far the fit looks good, with plenty of adjustment. More to follow...

Nice routing on the front brake. Makes me want to drill a hole in the Argon18 E-118 fork & hide the front brake cable.

Thanks for the replies.

I have since done a few klms on this bike and I'm liking it more and more. Even did a 4.5hr ride and a few 3hr rides. I'm very impressed with the ride compliance. Smooth as the old 2011 HiMod Slice I used to own. Still amazed at how low the front end is but doesn't seem to bother me once off and riding.

Has anyone got there Slice RS yet?

I've been thinking about this more, as it's what drives me nuts about the Argon18s...

Where is the stop for the front brake cable? If the housing somehow goes from the basebar to the inside of the fork, I'm having a hard time picturing how that TRP brake functions & where the housing/cable stop goes..

It's not a TRP Brake. It's Cannondale own brake. All cables run thru the head tube not to be seen again.

The blk inc bike has carbon brake arms the ultegra and ultegra di2 have alloy brake arms. I'll get a pic of the brake from behind so you can see how it works. Very simple yet clever design. Giveme a few hhours to get to the shop and set up and I'll post up a pic.

Front brake from behind. Showing small brake noodle coming from head tube

Cable exit on non drive side. If you were really keen you could cut the cable right on the bolt.

Cable entry above headtube

I checked out the Scicon site. Thanks! Which bag are you thinking? A soft bag --Travel plus triathlon? It looks like this allow the handlebars to stay on ...even the saddle... but remove the wheels...

http://www.sciconbags.com/...ravel-plus-triathlon

I can't figure out yet whether we need the frame, or if that's a good add on.

Or would an aero bar equiped tri bike fit in the AeroComfort 2.0 TSA bag without removing the bars...

I've got the AeroComfort and my XL Shiv fits in pretty easily. I did have to loosen the stem faceplate and pivot the bars down as I have fairly long arms, but that didn't phase me too much. Depending on your cable routing, pivoting the bars down could be difficult, however.

I also wonder if the alu matt black vision front end would look better with the matt black frameset.

Apologies - a little off topic... I have the older Cannondale Slice Hi-Mod. This was the top of the line one at the time of purchase, but is currently in the process of being warranted. Does anyone know how the Cannondale warranty process is (so far they've had my bike for three weeks) and if there is any opportunity to upgrade to the Slice RS (I know they still make the older frame too).

Ok, thanks! I like the look of that AeroComfort, especially the internal frame. I'll look at doing that one. The bar ends are adjustable lenghth (and Di2) so perhaps moving the bar ends in, or removing for the flight would be an option.

I have been waiting almost2 YEARS for a replacement frame from Cannondale. I had a Hi Mod (cracked two) as well. I have been following this thread to see when others received their frame. I would stay on your shop/rep as much as you can.

Looks great! Did the shop leave the Di2 junction box out in anticipation of the shifter/brake levers coming out later this spring (which require a different junction box)?

Yes, that's exactly right. I am waiting for those TT brake lever/Di2 shifters. I first heard that Dura Ace and Ultegra were going to be 'merged' to one "TT brake lever/Di2 shifter" offering sharing the same new Ultegra wiring connections. My local bike shop says late Feb, and "only available in DA"... for $500 msrp!!!!!! (gulp!).... once that comes and is installed, perhaps things will clean up.

I notice no risers on the extensions........ you must be flexible. .. great work.

I didn't like the vision graphics on the chainring against the matte blk frame so here's what I did.

The big question is though do I leave the green C or not?

Well, now that I got on the bike, the saddle had to go up a lot, and I've added one set of 20mm risers. I am going out to ride now - there is still quite a drop!

Hmm... temperature only 22 degrees. We'll see.

One minor snag... The brake shoes on the bike are shorter than the Grey Swiss Stop pads that came with my 2012 Zipp 404 Firecrest wheels. I'll have to see if Swiss make a Zipp compatible short pad. (Interestingly enough, the front pads are 5cm - i.e. normal, but the back pads are shorter - i.e. 4cm)...

First ride out this weekend was great. Bike was great at speed... but, I've not ridden in a month, so the bike wasn't the limiting factor. Three adjustments I made after the ride, 1) I put a third 20mm riser on the front end (too much staring at the pavement), 2) I moved the seat back 1cm to give myself a little more room between the elbows and knees... And 3) I'll save the 11-23 for race day, and give myself the 12-25 back for the hilly training ride we do... :-)

C'dale looks really nice. However the one thing I can't get over is the seat post 'look'. these bikes cost something close to $10k for race kit, could they not visually blend the lines a little better than the prototype look? I have(had) same issue with the P4, just does not look right for the money. Now the P5 and BH Aero are on the right track.

Once this has crossed into the "official" thread, the seat post comments can go elsewhere. :-) This is now a thread for owners and would-be owners to find out more about the bike, share best practices, show your ride (committed to the full "look" and all) and answer questions for folks interested in optimizing or riding faster on this bike! If you don't like the bike, I (we owners) have made my peace with you, and you should have made your peace with yourself (without having to let us know)... but then go buy something else. (Maybe we need an "Official Cannondale Slice RS Seat Post Rant thread" to channel and capture all the idol banter. The critique is already well documented.)

As for my setup. 808's on the way. Should be here by next weekend. (Along with the snow).

Although, I just notices the person two/three posts above who also took exception to post as well. So I will let others address issue in the future.

Of note, I still ride my C'dale model year 2000, R1000 road bike. Cannondale for sure builds good quality stuff, that seat post just hurts my eyes.

Have just managed to fit some SRAM TT adjustable 990 brake levers. Although the black inc edition is pictured in the catalog with these they shipped with the alloy levers. I now know why. The vision carbon basebar has internal cable routing and doesn't allow for the cable to run thru the centre into the lever. Not to mention the bars have a smaller internal diameter then the brake levers. But....... after some lets call it modifications. They are now installed making wheel swaps much more easier.

Seatpost aside- I do think the Matte Black finish and 808's that it's an awesome looking bike. I have an '09 Slice - and having issues with it at the minute (several Cannondale staff and bike mechanics said it has a crack in the frame - but Cannondale are rejecting this) and so would be reluctant to think about a Cannondale again. Definitely think when you are spending so much on a bike the after market support is critical (I love hearing the great stories that Trek and Cervelo people have on this forum). Hopefully Cannondale lift their game.

I really like the bike and wish it would be included in some of the more comprhensive aero tests. Not fond of the look of the seat post, but I bet its the most aero out their. The seat tube has to be fairly massive for various aero and engineering reasons (shield the rear wheel, support BB, etc.)

But the seat post can be much smaller and for any given shape a smaller version will be faster than a bigger one. So you are stuck with using a SP the same size of the seat tube, which looks nice, or using a small one which is fast.

On the ultegra Di2 bike. My guess is the new Di2 levers will be fine. As one it runs a different Alloy baseboard and the SRAM 990 brake levers come standard and fit perfect with no mods needed.

Dang, and I thought I had an excuse to upgrade to the Trimax Carbon Base Bars :-)... (which btw I am suprised this Di2 bike doesn't come with)... How much $$ is worth spending to drop 54grams. :-)

I saw a preliminary release of a yaw sweep from 0-20 degrees of the RS vs the P4, Shiv, and Speed Concept. The RS was 40-75 grams better across the board compared to the P4. Up against the Shiv and SC, the RS was about 40 grams ahead at 0 degrees, had a 20-30 gram lead at 5 degrees, lost by 50-75 grams at 10 and 15 degrees, and was once again ahead at 20 degrees. Sorry, that was all I was able to remember to write down after seeing it.

I didn't see anything about the tunnel setup, protocol, etc. From what it looked like, Cannondale is preparing to release something along the lines of a white paper at some point, but I don't have any info on when that would be.

4cm)...

Did you find carbon specific pads for the rear brake? I just realized the pads for the rear brake aren't normal Shimano fit brake pads. Thanks!

Rear brake works with my ZIPP 808 fiercrest perfectly and there a very wide rim. I used Shimano fitment Swisstop pads with the tail cut down a bit. Although the blk inc bike comes standard with ZIPP cork pads.

For anyone who has wider rim wheels (eg, the newer Hed Stingers), I got the brakes to work with them tonight. There are 4 spacers for each brake pad. I used slimmer carbon brakes pads (eg, KoolStops) and a couple of spacers and now the brakes work great with the Heds. You might also need to play with not only cable length, but also spring tension. I can understand why this bike isn't easy to wrench. I have lots of experience with weird Tektro brakes, which helped me figure out these.

I did my first race on my Slice RS on Sunday. Far from my ideal position, but I was impressed with the handling. Much better than I would have thought for a bike with no steerer...:)

Correct. And I think you'll find the bikes come with a shorter T bolt if you remove a few spacers in and around the brake pads.. I have my one running firecrest rims and another waiting for delivery running the t42 vision rims (much narrower) both function great.

Just curious what everyone's Slice RS's are weighing in at. I understand this isn't the lightest frameset, but a little shocked when mine came in at 9kgs. That's pretty much stock Di2 with Hed Stinger PT Disc and a Stinger 9 front. I'm used to my TT bikes being 18-19 lbs. with race wheels, so this seems heavy to me. Then again, on a flat course, aero matters the most...:)

BTW, I think I could drop weight with the basebar and crankset.

Thanks Zipp, for including the valve extension in the kit with the new 808's! Right after I spend whole evenings researching the best way to deal with the lack of 100mm valved tubes. Here's the Di2 with 808's. And enough spacers to make me look like Wiggins. I got a fit the other day, and this still puts me in a pretty low position (back angle around 19%).

Secteur, I'll have to refresh your instructions on moving the washers on the brakes to the outside (or removing them altogether...), I definitely need more space with these wider wheels. That's going to take a little more time than I had today.

For anyone routing Di2 cables, here is a photo of my BB shell. The SRAM/Truvativ PF30 shell won't fit with the cable guide. You need to use the FSA BBs or the Cannondale SRM versions. I swapped bars, and learned to route the Di2 cable from the bars and the battery cable through the cable guide. I managed to cram all of the other cables and Di2 junction box in the seat stays and down tube. You need to be careful with the routing, since it's hard to fit a shell in this space, and you don't want the spindle rubbing against the wires. There shouldn't be any issues with standard Shimano/SRAM mechanical shifters.

The mechanic, Candy, at Bike Religion in Newport Beach did an amazing job at putting this bike together. I have 10 years of wrenching under my belt, but couldn't have done what I did without his initial work. I'm very impressed with the Cannondale build for this bike. I've raced it twice with the stock Vision bars and can't wait to try it out with my new fit specs/

Yes but you cant feel it on the road. My CAAD10 at the moment in race trim (6.38kg) on a technical and hilly first half of a 14.5klm local club tri is still slower then my Slice RS.

Its the frames though. I saw some weights from Cannondale that had the Slice RS at I think from memory around 1650g for the blk inc frameset where as the Slice is 1250g in saying that a frame is static weight not rotating weight so dont stress to much. My CAAD10 after its custom repaint is 1380g yet built into a light bike. the components make a large percentage of the total weight.

On the road the bike IS FAST if it fits you......

So my apologies for being new (please don't haze me!), and if there is a thread about this already or this doesn't belong here, my apologies again. This was the only discussion thread about the Slice RS that I ran across in my searches.

But I have a question about the Cannondale Slice RS seat post. Not about it's look. I actually kind of like it because it's unique. It turns people's heads and makes them do a double take. I think that's a good thing. But I own the Cannondale Slice RS Hi-MOD (not the DI2 version). I have had it for about a month, and I was wondering if anyone else is having issues with the seat post slipping down and not staying at the proper height? I rode 80 miles today and stopped 4 times to pull the seat post back up to proper height. I have been having this issues for basically the entire time that I've owned it, though it took me a few weeks to notice that I was actually sitting lower than I should've been (was drastically losing power!)

Anyone have this issue? Am I the only one?

Cheers!

Youd probably benefit greatly from trying out a different saddle. The lower half of your torso/hips is pointing nearly straight up because it seems the saddle isnt allowing you to roll your hips forward. Which is causing a funky bend in the middle of your back. If you could get those hips to roll forward more, you'd then be able to comfortably drop your bars a bit more as well.

Nice bike BTW. Oh, and how do you like those meles? Been looking at picking up a pair.

I haven't had an issue, I just remeasured yesterday, and put a small marker line to monitor. I did notice that the cam used to tighten has quite a bit of slack to take up when tightening. The assembly is two wedges that compress together, so tighten away. Good luck.

Excellent comments on this thread so far ...
I would love to hear any comments from ST'ers that have taken the RS on a plane ... Ie packed it in a bike box.
Were you able to disconnect the bars and twist them enuff to fit into a standard bike box (like Bike Pro) ... Or is the only option to disconnect the cables and recable post flight ... Which is a major pain in the ass :-(((

Why is recabling a pain. On my bike (not the same at all, though) I can undo the bolts that clamp the cables to the brakes and derailleurs, pull all of them, housing and all out of the bike and just push them in and reclamp in the same place. I might then have to make a slight RD adjuster turrn but not normally. I don't really have to do this to pack mine but its just easier to do than to try and deal withthe tangle of attached cables.

With a standard road bike or an easier TT set up I would agree ...
With hidden cables, hidden brakes, integration up the ting yang and electronic shifting I surmise it may be a hassle but not unmanageable.
I havent received my RS yet so this is all speculation ... Just wanted to get real world input from ST'ers who have flown with their bike.

Mine is a felt, so the hidden cables and rear brake applied. The front shouldnt be a big deals to leave on the bike and just put the bars near it.

The big issue is with a felt you just push the housing through the hole in the toptube and it exits in the proper place. Not all bike are like that and a lot of finish.

I would think that electronic would make it easier to plug and unplug.

I just flew to melbourne with mine in a scicon aero comfort bike bag. No problems at all. I did angle the sram r2c shifters down and remove the rear derailer as a precaution but otherwise all good. No dramas at all. Trying to fit it into a standard cardboard bike box...... no way not for me. I like to have my bike perfect then itgoes from the work stand to the bike bag. Less stress when I get to the race.

Thanks also for the tips re position. Ive tried different saddles over the years on different bikes and never got my hips to roll forward I think its due to a back injury/accident I had when younger. Although I dont LOOK textbook I am comfortable well as comfy as you can be for 180k :-)

Eitheryway the bars on the RS dont turn past say 50' (this is a guess) but they dont turn like a bike with a conventional steerer tube/headstem setup so you would need to remove the bars from the stem completely to get them to pack next to the frame. If you were running the stem at its longest and if you had something like 60/80mm of risers under the extensions you MAY have enough cabling to do it. I cant on my bike but Id be lucky to have about two inches of exposed outer cabling and the brake cable inners are cut real short after the pinch bolt. This is why I chose the scicon aero comfort. Easy.

I have since had a client come in and by my blk inc slice rs so am currently in the process of ordering/building a new bike (yes it is a slice rs) I'm considering going up a size as it will raise the base bar 20mm yet only lengthen the reach by 10-15mm. Stay tuned for pics as this bike comes together. I'm thinking a little bit custom not one of the models from the brochure. ..........

No that is not right. You get all thestem spacers to make it from 80mm to 120mm and aero extension risers for up to 80mm you also get two different length T bolts for the brake pads depending on the width of rim you will be using. Its a big box of spares.

Thanks for this... I am planning to switch over to the 808's soon, and will dig into the spares to find those bolts. Also. Do you remove the crank when messing with the rear brakes? I got to get quicker at doing that, and making sure I have all the tools.

Yes cranks come out but that's easy. Basically the bikes come as a frame with the forks on, the rear wheel and rear derailer the rest is in a big parts box.

ok... So checking the spares, it was a total of four stems, including the one on the bike. Pave, I assume these small silver t bolts are what you mentioned.

Some of you may know that my beloved Cannondale Slice RS Black Inc was sold to a client a few weeks ago..... oh well thats the fun of being involved in a shop that sells Cannondale. Please dont worry LOL I am in the process of piecing together another but this time not out of the brouchure. I will of course share pics when its ready to roll. In the meantime the new owner of has sent me some pics of the mods he has made including new wheels and rotor rings and I thought you may like a look.

I just picked up my Slice RS today but I am missing parts.. I am rebuilding with my parts, and selling my older Slice..

When I unboxed it, I discovered I am missing the wedge to hold the seatpost in the frame, and also missing all the stem extension units.. the only one I have is the 40mm one and it was installed already in the bike.. so I can't even go for a 80mm length as the bolts arent there!!

I am assuming that the stem extensions from 0 upto 40mm were all supposed to be included with the associated hardware???

Thanks

Sorry to hear that. But yes every bike I have built had come with all stem length and extension riser spacers and associated bolts among other parts depending on how you choose to build it. The seat post binder bolt should have been in the bike. Did you buy it from a shop BUILT or was it shipped from a shop or did you buy it over the interweb

Hi,
Ordered from a local shop...I am building it up myself as I am taking my Campagnolo Record 10s and SRM from my Slice and stripping the Ultegra off the RS... I unboxed the bike at home hoping to start the swap when I noticed that the parts were missing..the build instructions for the bike were also not included..the only reason I really knew parts were missing was because I downloaded the supplement from the Cannondale website....

Ive already contacted the shop, they are great guys and Im sure it will get sorted out...

Im just curious this "build kit" you talk about... would that be the risers and stem extensions?? I got the risers cable guides etc... the only things that appear to be missing are the seat wedge, and the extensions.. and the bolts for a zero extension stem... right now its stuck at 12cm and I cant go any shorter... well the bike is unrideable anyways with no seatpost...

I will also need to order the KP248 109mm spindle kit for my SRM just like I needed on my EVO for clearance...

Here's mine!

A quick question if you don't mind...

Where you able to keep your brake from rubbing? When I brake, the drive side brake pad is not springing back and I'm constantly getting brake rub. If I loosed the cable I can't stop. I have to physically push the brake to center it again.

The bikes I have built came out of the box as a frame and fork, rear wheel/derailler and brake arms all installed...... I think that was it, everything else was in two boxes. The Stem extensions and the different length bolts, the Aero extension risers and the different length bolts, different length T bolts for the brakes, the brake noodle thingies that need to be cut down depending on the frame size (headtube length), chain, cranks and possibly more stuff aswell. I think the seat wedge was in the frame and held in place with some packaging tape.

Hope that helps

OK.. well my bike did not have tape over the seat post insert.. so Im guessing it was never installed in the first place... and Ive looked in the box over and over again.. you know.. kinda like when you keep going to the fridge looking for food.. theres nothing in there you really want, but you keep hoping the food fairy showed up and put something in there :)

Stem Extensions are non existant..

Curious on the bikes you built.. was the cable guide installed inside the BB already?? Mine was NOT installed, and you can't get in there unless you pop at least one bearing out of the BB shell as the guide won't fit through the bearing... so whoever built this bike installed the entire crank system, and left the guide out. I have it in the box.. but even the local shop would have to disassemble the whole BB to install the guide.. I just find that odd it was missed.. I aslo received the Electronic battery mount with the bike.. its almost like they started buildign the bike as the electronic version and then said go mechanical on this one half way through...

MMMM, I have built 3 so far, another (my new one) due to arrive hopefully this week.

The ultegra Di2 did have the PF30 cups and bearings installed as was the BB cable guide, its easier to cable if you remove the guide to get the cables thru (less chance of kinking them) yes the PF30 cups will need to come out. My Black Inc had no bearings or cups installed but had the BB cable guide, I have also had one that had no internal cable guides running from the headtube to the BB. They seem to be a little bit inconsistent off the production line so far, im sure this will improve BUT....... they ride so smooth and FAST it doesnt bother me. I just allow plenty of time to piece them together.

Nice looking bike Canadian.

I assume your talking about the rear brake....... Yes i had it pretty much rub free, out of the saddle under full load I had a touch of rub (not with HED jet90 only with the stock 808FC) after I installed the SRAM TT990 levers, the Black Inc came out of the box with the Alloy Vision levers and was totally rub free. The rear brake cable can get pretty dirty pretty quickly down there causing drag, you will need the brake caliper springs running on full boost then hopefully if no kinks in the cable when installing them you should be rub free.

Hey thanks. I started with that one, then bought the PF30 to SRAM, and now have the universal BB30 to SRAM on the way. The Quarq needs a unique spacing. I'll get there! Maybe I just need to sell this quarq and get a new one.

Pretty sure you can get a quark spider that screws onto the cranks then use your choice of chain rings. I'm positive they have SRM or Quark spiders for them. The team uses the SRM set up and I'm trying to justify the expense for my new bike lol.

Does the Slice RS Ultegra Di2 come with base bar shifters?

I am hearing it does not, and that you have to buy the dura ace base bar shifters separately, but that it is compatible with the junction box.

Please tell me that Slice RS Ultegra Di2 TT comes with base bar break/shifters included for a price of $7200!

Mine came with just the aerobar shifters. I ended up having to get the Dura Ace Di2 brake lever/shifters aftermarket along with the 5-port junction box.

They weren't available in the US yet, so I got them from Germany. I think they were about $400 total for both. I swapped to Zipp bars at the same time, so I can't comment on how they'll work with the Vision bars. I also ended up selling the SRAM levers here on ST, which helped make up for some of the cost.

No they didn't come specd with the basebar shifters but I'd say that's cause they didn't exist when this bike would have been originally specd. My guess is next year's model will have the base bar shifters.

Its not running di2 so where are the brake cables. Also what base bar is that with SLICE on the side. Is this a new bar that intergrates the brake cables somehow?????

Just found this

Looking toward its collaboration with Cannondale, Vision set out to develop a new aerobar system to integrate seamlessly with the Slice RS time trial bike. The result is the Metron TFA, which was developed with the same extensive testing protocol as the new wheels.

I thought the tfa was a bar/stem/extensions in one piece type set up.

Maybe new stuff for next year? ???

Any thoughts?

That is weird cable routing. I'm wondering if the brake cables don't enter through the stem extensions somehow. It already looks like they drilled a few custom holes for the derailleur cables.

I mentioned this a while ago on this thread. It appears the bar bolts into the Slice RS stem directly instead of a stem faceplate clamping onto the bar. So this bar must be exclusive to the Slice RS.

Yep brakes must come in through the stem. That wouldn't be that hard to do and with di2 you wouldn't see a cable any where. There is a new bento box that replaces the cable top cap coming soon aswell. So that could be a interesting set up. Very stealth.

Haven't seen any close up photos yet of the new bars but in most time trials this season they have used them. They only seem to be using the new Vision "Slice" bars on the new black and green frames which must mean the 2012 spec frame is not compatible with the internally routed brake cables. It looks very sleek indeed.

Here is a photo of their training bikes with the current handlebar and stem setup.

Also, the back brake pads are smaller than the front. Does anyone know where to purchase brake pads designed for this bike? I need a set for non carbon rims.

Sorry, for the delay, but here are some photos of the Di2 routing on my RS with Zipp Alumina bars. It's a ghetto zip tie job right not, so I need to clean it up later. I find most of the junction box is shielded by the Zipp bar.

Cannondale should have the pads in stock. Pretty sure we do here in Aus. The black inc had the carbon pads and from memory they are zipp pads. Perhaps zipp my have some also. Otherwise just cut your favorite pads down. I'm finding brakes need to be set up on Max spring tension then if all the cables are cut cleanly you should have no problems adjusting them with the grub screws on each brake arm as per normal.

Thanks for the pics of the 5 port junction box aswell. Looks rather tidy. I'm going to try and use two jc41 Junction boxes combined with the original control box to try and hide as much as I can in the bars. May drill a hole in the extensions and on top of the bars to send the cables thru.

Hopefully have some pics soon if it works ha ha

So I have finally replaced the Black Inc Slice RS I had with a Slice RS Ultegra Di2, I will be upgrading some parts over the next few months. Keen on the Vision Metron 3 spoke wheels for starters, then as the 11spd hub bodies for vision wheels come along Ill replace the derailers with Dura Ace, well thats the plan any way lets wait and see if someone comes and buys this off me or I get to keep it awhile.

I took some pics as I unboxed it, and started the build.

Straight out of the box.

First box of parts - chargers, stem and extensions risers and extensions, bar tape etc etc

Second box of parts - Seat, extensions, cranks, cable top cap, brake lines and brake noodles etc etc

PF30 Bearings installed as is the E-Tube wiring loom

Seatpost binder bolt assembly secured with tape

Then the fun started after unpacking all the bits I got out the drill.......... started drilling some holes for the Di2 cables to run thru the extensions down the risers and into the bars.

Managed to get everything into the bars, I even drilled out the plastic cable guide so I could run the Di2 cable thru the existing mechanical gear cable hole (forgot pic) I chose to use the normal control box as its smaller instead of the 5 port and I got another JC41 4 port internal junction box (that im still waiting for) but the first one (comes with the bike) fitted into the bars nicely and mated up to the Dura Ace base bar shifters nicely.

Not much time spent on this today but did remove the brake arms and set them up properly they don't seem to be coming from the fact set up right. So that and made a cable end feral to fit my di2 etube wiring just to try and protect it a bit if the bars spin and to try and tidy up the exit hole.

Here is a pic of the drilled out cable guide with the etube wire thru the mechanical gear hole.

I put the birthday present (rear wheel) on last week... Cool! Here's a picture with me with my seat to high/low, my bars to high/low, and definitely too many spacers for the aero's.

I raced a 22 mile downhill TT this weekend (yeah, strange but true)... Pointy helmet and all. Averaged 31 mph. Amazing how the pro's can do that all day long.

That's certainly a comment that nearly everyone makes. I'm confident that they'd sell far more bikes with a seatpost that looks more "normal'. The speed difference would have to be small.

Yeah I agree. I just don't get why they're using a "normal-roadbike-looking" round-ish(?) seat post.
It just doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the bike.

But once a rider is on it you don't really seem to notice. YMMV. My 2p

It is not round at all. It is thin. Easy way to get around the 3:1 rule in my eyes.

Sounds like you have built up a few RS's in your time .... Quick ???
When you extract the bearings there is a thin plastic "sheet" inside the BB Shell ... Between the bearings ... Some sort of protection I assume.
My ???? is .... Is this plastic needed ?
Or can I just leave it out when I reassemble the cranks again ?

Yeah I've built a few. In the process of another for a pretty handy triathlete as we speak.

The plastic I think your talking about is really only needed for the di2 model to stop the wire rubbing against the crank spindle. The mechanical ones have the wire running under/thru the inner bb cable guide.

Yes seat post can go either way.

Well.. almost a month since I got my Slice RS, and I still no sign of the missing parts from Cannondale North America!! So I took things in my own hands and ordered the binder bolt and the 10mm stem extension from Dr Cannondale in Germany...

For anyone who is after Carbon Specific pads, they have them! Part is KP295 so I ordered a set as well..

They use DHL Global Mail... it sucks because they send the stuff out right away... but then it sits in Germany for 11 days ad does nothing before it moves.. and then you get it 4-6 days later... so count on 2.5 weeks after you order before you get the stuff... that's what it was to Canada anyways...

On a sidenote... the tubular looking insert that goes into the seatpost itself that the angle adjustment screw threads into... is everyone's perfectly centered... or offset to one side and poking out a little??

Yes they are available. But here in aus vision are in the middle of changing distributors so may be hard to come by unless you find some one with a set already in stock. Funnily enough I have a few sets at the shop. How come your bike isnt BUILT? I'd have thought the shop would have sourced a set while assembling the bike for you. Did you buy from a shop or of the net.?

Are you the mechanic doing the build? Do you have the Cannondale supplement booklet with the tech drawings of the tricky bits so to speak? What model did you get? Di2, Ultegra Mech or the Sram red Black Inc. Sourcing the arm rest pads should be the easiest problem to fix of all that you'll come across.

I will post a pic of where I Mount my garmin 510 a bit later this morning.

Your welcome. Just a thought.

When setting up the brakes. Do not unwind the grub screw past flush with the brake arm. If you do it will allow the spring tension adjuster thingy inside the brake am to slip past the grub screw. Then it will require the arm to be removed and reset.

Same for both sides. DON'T UNWIND PAST FLUSH WITH THE BRAKE ARM. ......

In the below pic the grub screw is out to far.

This pic the grub screw is as far out as it can go before the spring tension thingy inside slips past. But it will go in around 10mm.

I'm using the Arundel Chrono primarily for training and longer TTs. The Chrono cage is nice, since the dual mounting holes allow you to get it close to the bottom bracket. I've got an Xlab Torpedo mount that I haven't tried yet, but am using Zipp Vukas and not the stock Visiontechs.

Does anyone know anything about this?? I just got an email from my shop who is getting my missing parts:

Subject: Important Tech Issue Notice Slice RS

Sales,
An issue with the braking system on the Slice RS has been identified and a corrective action program is being put in place. This will require we stop all shipments of this model until the resolution/fix has been finalized. This will also require that all consumer units be returned to the Dealer. We are actively working on a resolution and should have answers by early next week.
Dealer Service has started the process on contacting all participating Retailers to inform them of the need to have all units sent back to Bedford for re-work. We will be offering consumers an AHA credit for the inconvenience and Dealers will be reimbursed for labor. We will keep you informed as more information becomes available.

I'm curious what the braking issue is. I've had no problems. I also have my bike registered with Cannondale and haven't heard anything. These brakes work just as well as any of my other linear pull brakes...they actually stop better then some of the TRP aero brakes...

I must admit to stop the rear brake from rubbing i used a small piece of rubber to create more of a gap between the chainstay and the u-shaped removable cover piece (the one that holds the battery on the Di2 bike. I thought I had a picture of my 'horrible hack', but I don't. I'll post one soon. I'll also contact my shop. 3 weeks until my first Tri of the season, so I am not sure I want the bike taken away from me.

The cannondale recall will be made public within the next week or so. The problem appears to be the bonding between front brake and the front folk. I have had major issues with my front brake since i received it. It looks like they are working on a solution, but they could replace the frames with the 2013 frame that should be released in August. This recall appears to only be for the Black RS.

I called Cannondale this aft and they told me all Slice RS in general and that the frame/fork would need to be sent back via your local bike shop... there is nothing with the actual brake.... they told me it would be a 3-4 week turn around from the time they got it, so I wouldn't think there'd be a 2013 frame involved... I asked if I should remove all my parts from the bike.. they told me basically whatever is sent down will be sent back.. Im stripping mine down to nothing....

I am based in the UK and got a call today and just checked out the thread.

I have been told a 6-8wk turnaround and that Cannondale are sending across a Slice 105 to ride across the duration of the hiatus.
Sounds like a £3500 bike with £2000 wheels wasn't my greatest investment of 2013.....I am a little annoyed, right in the middle of the Tri season and UK Summer.....cannot wait to get the bike back to use on the cold, wet, bleak Autumn and Winter!

I am thinking of requesting a 2013 frame and they can keep their current crock!

I am also trying to get some info from Cannondale Aus, nothing so far you havnt already heard. Nothing official to report.
I can say I have built a few of these and none have had brake issues, well none have come back reporting any.
I have personally owned two Slice RS my first was the Black Inc and now the Di2.
Both are in my opinion FIT for Purpose, thats not to say a batch or two wasnt.
Im sure when the proplem is identified and a fix for it is available it will be taken care of as fast as possible.

If i hear of any news I will keep you updated.

I have had a terrible time getting the HED Stingers to fit with these brakes. With a little sand paper, I did get them to work though. When I next replace the cables, I was thinking of using Nokon. Has anyone tried using Nokon cables (or equivalent "closed" system) for the brakes (especially the rear)? I was thinking that running the Nokon lining through the entire frame might be a little easier than the using those short cables guides that come with the frame. I would think braking might be smoother as well. Thx in advance for any thoughts.

I have the Hed Stingers on my Slice RS. I ended up using some older Zipp pads and the removing spacers. I actually have plenty of room now. My only complain is that the brakes are grabby. They stop fine for me though.

Ran into another issue while building... trying to install Campagnolo 10s on the bike.. I have my SRM installed with a 54T chainring up front... the front derailleur (CT and STD model) is not going to work... the tail of the deraulleur is so high above the ring that it will never be able to shift.. theres literally 2 teeth of the chainring that will really push it over up front...

Is the braze on clamp adjustable? Or is rivoted in.. it does not look adjustable to me.. maybe Im wrong..

Are the campagnolo deraillieurs just that shallow of a design???

If I were Cannondale, I wouldn't use the term "stress testing". This conjures up guys whacking your frame with a hammer (or at least putting it under extreme forces using a machine)...:) They should have given there reps/shops talking points, like "frame integrity will be reassessed to ensure its meets original design specifications". Also, emphasizing that this is merely a proactive (not reactive) recall out of their dedication to ensuring consumers not only have safe products, but also ones that meet the original high standards they expect, yada, yada...

Well finally got it all together and out for a ride... I know its on recall, but I have Prov TT championships in under 2 weeks.. who needs brakes in a TT anyways :)

Ive been racing and working on my own bikes for 25 years now... some key areas I think are a royal PITA...

1) The cable routing... feeding all those little cables into that small cable guide in the BB ... all I can say is wow.. I wouldn't wish that initial task on my worst enemy!!
2) Im using a 54T ring for Time Trials, which required me to either remove the chainring, or driveside crank for setting up the brakepad!! The teeth on the chainring were conveniently about .5mm in the way!
3) Always make sure the brake noodles are fully inserted INTO the flexible metal tubes... if they are not, the brakes will not pull evenly...

Im not looking forward to having to rebuild this thing again.. that for sure.. but lessons were learnt on the initial build!!

Couple of sidenotes... where are you guys measuring saddle height from? I measured my 82.5cm like my road bike and my leg was pretty well locked out at the bottom of the pedal stroke!! So I needed to lower it considerably... no big deal really..

Overall, I think the bike rides amazing and is fast for sure... just jumping on and riding with no tweaking of position gave me my fastest 11.3k loop Ive ever done where I ride...

Will Cannondale be providing us with all new cables on th recall... the cables are going to be so distorted after all the bends in them that theyh will never get back through the internal guides properly...

The more you build the easier they get. I'm not scared of them any more lol. I take the bb cable guide out of its holes so to speak. Makes it Heaps easier to run the cables through. Brakes are awesome and plenty powerful if they are set up correctly. Yes cranks out for almost all rear end work even with a 53t you can get away with removing the left crank and just pushing the right side through enough to gain access to the brake but then you may aswell remove it all the way any way. Agree they are fast to ride. Slow to build. Ha ha

Fyi, this isn't a Slice RS, but this set up will work perfectly on your cannondale. The bento pack, an advanced Speedpack 483, will mount to your top tube 100% securely without holding on to your cables, stem, or steerer.

Ah the dreaded "click" im going to guess you have un wound thegrub screw to far allowing the spring thru so to speak. What ever you do.... DO NOT ATTEMPT TO WIND IT BACK IN until you remove it and rest the spring or you risk stripping the thread on the brake arm. You'll need to remove the brake arm from the frame and reset the spring. Its not hard just time consuming. Good luck.

Bugger, sorry to hear that, you may be able to use some plumbers teflon tape around the grub screw, to make it hold for the weekends race. Pull the brake arm off, unscrew the grub screw, reset the spring, then refit the grub screw with the tape. reinstall the brake arm and adjust. Dont unscrew the grub screw to far or the spring will release again and youll need to start over.

The brakes have a bit of a learning curve but hardly anything wrong with them. Just take your time and you should be right.

Good luck with the brake and the race.

My Slice RS is back (at my LBS) from the recall check up. But. The LBS found a couple of suspicious hairline cracks in the fork, and have sent photo's to Cannondale to see if they think there is an issue. Other than that, a four week turn around, and if the fork works out i'll have the bike back soon.

Has anyone replaced the brake shoes from the stock cannondale ones to something like a Shimano/sram brake shoe? So I can use one set of carbon pads on the road and TT bike??

Yes.

Front slide right in. Rear are shorter so need to be cut down. I also shaved a set down (thinner) so wider race wheels and shaved down pads stopped me having to adjust the brakes to suit.

Much more easier.

Have you tried replacing the pad houseing/shoe the small silver part with the bolt though it to something other than the cannondale one on the rear so you don't have to cut down the pads?

Agree.

And no the normal size pads and holders wont fit on the back, they hit the frame.

I built another one today, so hada play around while going.

I had issues in my oly race last weekend with a rubbing sound coming from the front brake area. Turned out it is the hanger rubbing against the top of the tire surface. I plan to switch to a more worn set of pads so that the brakes calipers can be set tighter to the rim, and this will allow the hanger to clear. This is for wide wheels like my 808's (you wouldn't have an issue with stock wheels). You can't do this by backing off the calipers, since the wider the calipers, the less distance there is to the hanger.

Despite the pain you all have endured with this bike, I'm really thinking about getting a 2014 model. (A big factor is that I can get a good price & I'm a brand loyal kinda guy-have 4 currently) Care to comment on the positives of the bike and your opinions to prospective buyers? I'm under the impression that the 14 models will have issues resolved.

I have a great opp to buy a slice rs black second hand at a good price. And I really would like to go ahead. However -even beyond the recall brake plate problem- there seem to be sufficient issues surrounding this bike, such as the one quoted above or the apparently very delicate cable routing that I'm getting cold feet.

So my question to all you RS experts is: Should I go ahead or look for another less problematic bike?

Chris, as you own one and seem to have put together quite a few, I'm obviously very interested in your most truthful unbiased opinion...

If the geometry of the bike fits you and you are or have access to a good mechanic get one. They are seriously a great bike to ride. Very smooth (compliant) and very fast in a straight line.

They are very aggressive so don't corner as good as some but are still pretty good.

Yes they are fiddly. What super bike with integrated brakes isn't. I have managed to find it easier having different brake pads for each wheel I have them shaved down to accommodate the different width of wheel much easier then trying to adjust the cable on the brake. I personally don't like the super wide wheel sets on them. In my opinion 25mm would be as wide as I'd go. Any wider and the brake pads need a spacer removed making it hard to go from a training wheel with say a 21mm rim to 27mm what ever wheels you go try to have racing and training of a similar width.

As a last thought. I don't think this is a only bike I own bike. I'd always want a road bike aswell

Now did I mention these things are fast n smooth.

Interesting. I never had this with my blk inc that came stock with the 808FC. Have you removed the spacer behind the brake pad and the brake arm? Was the brake noodle thingy cut to the correct length it may be a few mm long making the hanger hand a touch low. It's a close fit but shouldn't touch. I even managed to squeeze 25mm tyres in mine for training thru the wet season. :-o

Not the best pic. But here she is with dirty rotten 25mm MAXXIS Detonators they fill out almost like 28's ha ha. Looks terrible like this imo but it got me through the wet season on the way to IM Melbourne

Ok... That's the tricky one. You have to make sure the spring tension on both sides is set up so that the calipers hit the rim an the same time. But the speed and throw on both sides will not be even. I ended up sanding down one brake pad, because I needed to keep that side closer so the noodle didn't rub. Let me take a photo later today, and try to explain better.

REALLY....... Ive never had an issue with the front brake. spring tension is important but its not hard to set up. The rear is a bit more fiddly. You can if all else fails just run the outer cable from the brake lever all the way down to the brake. Not the prettiest but it makes it a lot easier especially for the rear. Ive never personally done it but the owner and other mechanic of the shop has and it seemed to work

Anyone tried drilling the top plate for cabling from above as in the pic?

I'm thinking that as the gear cables comes from the extensions above, it would be a nicer route for them (I currently use Nokon to get the bend to the side). You would also get a better line of the wire in the stem as it do not have to do the 90º turn in the plastic guide inside. Should make for better shifting?!

Worth a little off-season project? :-)
(would although require re-routing the gear cables, ouch!)

I'm into the drilling thing on my wife's Slice RS as her short stem and tall aerobar position makes a lot of sharp bends. So far I'm experimenting with Nokon cables but it seems to me that the teflon tubing makes a lot of drag to the cable and I used plenty of oil :-) Right now, the RD doesn't work properly so the project is not finished yet.

Others that have experience with Nokon cables on the RS? I'm thinking about cutting the teflon tube to let the cable run "free" inside the down tube to decrease the amount of drag and the let it return to the teflon tube underneath the BB before entering the chain stay.

Now we're at the topic...

I consider the use of an alternative cable routing for the last part of the rear brake cable. It seems to me that the final sharp 90 degree bend that follows after the cable exits the flexible housing really increase the cable drag and consequently one need to put the brake arm springs on maximum tension as well as tighten down both adjustment set screws in order for the rear brake to release properly when the cable meet just a little bit of real life dust and grime.

I've been thinking about replacing that last section with Nokon cable or maybe a longer flexible noodle kind-a-thing similar to the one used on eg. the Shiv standard brakes. This could prevent the sharp bend, but I'm worried if that solution will but way to much tension on one of the brake arms, where the standard solution puts a 45/55 percentage? Can this make it impossible to center the brake and align when the brakepads touch the rim?

Any input?

if this is true, i am going to ask my shop if i can switch these out... i am getting pretty tired of the '13 brakes. The rear one is behaving, but the front is still refusing to pull away from the rim after the brake is applied. I've sanded down the pads, so that it only needs to come off by 1mm... but too many times i'll get off the bike, spin the wheel and hear a rub. When the wheel is off, and the noodle off, each side has a lot of tension (to pull them 'out')... but somehow when the noodle is attached things slow down. Hard to explain, but certainly the most troubling aspect to the bike.

Edit... btw... given how proprietary this braking system is, I can't imagine there is a new brake. But I might be happy to find out otherwise.

Pave? Other self- wrenchers?

So.... In my travels to my IM event, my OEM SRAM TT brake levers were damaged. Nevermind, I wanted to upgrade to the Shimano DA Lever/Di2 shifters anyways...

So, i've completely striped down the bike, removed the aerobars, base bar, stem, crank... but the one thing i've 'lost' in the process is the brake cable housing inside the stem area that goes to the bottom bracket... So my question in the image below.... See #4... the 'internal HT guide'... Did this guide have the housings attached to it? i.e. for the FD, RD, RB?... (Of course in my case - Di2, it would have only been the RB... Btw, I think the terminology for this brake housing liner is a "seal liner" (?)... because it is NOT a typical 5mm brake housing).

So anyways... it is now flapping around inside the narrow/dark crevaces of the fork... What do I do next? Hmm... I can pull this brake housing out of the BB area, and then re-thread it from the bottom. But getting the housing cable to come up the down tube and turn up 45 degrees through the tiny #4 is kind of tricky!!

So. Questions.
a) was the skinny brake housing attached to the #4 guide?
b) what do we call this skinny brake housing, so that I can get some more of it? Teflon tubing? (see #7?)

Of course, I am hoping for a few of things out of this winter project. a) a new affinity towards the wrenching of this bike, b) improved brake performance, c) wonderful shifting from the bullhorns, and d) cleaned up cabling.

Took the bike to the shop and figured it all out. I worked out that there isn't a sleeve for the down tube. And had to take the fork off to see the cable guide. I'll say this, aero seatposts may look cook, but they do not absorb vibration

ok, my bike is in pieces, and I think I'll try this method. It is totally amazing how much friction is in that simple looking 90 degree noodle bend into the top of the head tube. Anyone else try this?

I guess the downside of drilling through the top plate is that any time you would need to get under that top plate you would need to release the brake cable, and potentially need to re-thread cables through the frame. Ugh. Maybe I'll set this up normal and hope for the best.

I am very curious about the brake cable routing on the '14 bikes. I can't quite believe in the tight area of the bars/stem/head tube that the cables can make those 90 degree turns.

(Seems that for those of us with Di2, this new frame would hide all the wires!)

Also note that the brake cable pops out at the BB, looks like that might reduce some of the tight bends down there.

You might be right TriSliceRS. I'm working on a solution on my wife's Slice RS where the gear wires "rest" down in the plastic-cable-guide-bend-a-lot-thing inside the fork. In that way i'll be able to lift the carbon top plate up and do maintenance on the brake system, which is routed normally with Nokon cables, without re-cabling the whole bike. I would probably either have to release the bolt on both front and rear derailleur or leave the bike in the big-ring/big-cock and then shift down without moving the chain to allow some slack in the cable to be able to work with the brake cable inside the stem though.

Wife is getting a bike-fit this weekend and then I can finalize my little experiment. I'll post my findings here on the thread...

Does the official Cannondale representative have some input regarding those cable-bending-issues on the Slice RS mk I (2013) bikes. Quite painfull to spend so much time working on an expensive bike, just to make it work...

By the way. On the pic quoted above - doesn't the brake cable look extremely thin - could it be gearwire to make the brake release properly?

You know... IF, and I said IF, the new brake cable routing is better, perhaps we could order the Mk2 fork from Cannondale? (Shame, because after getting my back after the recall last summer they noticed a crack and I got a replacement fork)... but maybe, just maybe this new fork routing would end up with a smoother brake system. Anyone seen it in the flesh and taken off the four screw cap?

The '14 DA Di2 Slice RS fork looks to be white and black (with no blue) so the color should work.

I just got my frame back from Cannondale under warranty. I was hoping for a 2014 frame, but happy to get a brand new frame nevertheless. What's weird is after setting my bike up, my rear brake has more power than my front. Any ideas from folks? Should I recable, try increasing spring tension on the front? Ironically, it didn't take my long to rebuild this bike now that I know what I'm doing. I've learned taping Di2 cables to an old derailleur cable really helps with routing, especially when using a strong magnet...:)

I'm a big fan of the looks of the Slice RS Black and it seems like it's getting some good reviews. However, upon getting a retul fitting I've found out that my stack and reach geometries are 562mm and 417mm, and I'm not sure if this is a bike I should consider. Any bike fitters out there have any advice as to whether the Slice RS Black 56 or 58 would be a good fit?

The 56 is 550/401 so it would be great for stack but less ideal for reach.
The 58 is 570/411 so it would be less ideal for stack but almost spot on for reach.

Would you go with any bike or would you recommend one of the sizes over the other?

I just got my frame back from Cannondale under warranty. I was hoping for a 2014 frame, but happy to get a brand new frame nevertheless. What's weird is after setting my bike up, my rear brake has more power than my front. Any ideas from folks? Should I recable, try increasing spring tension on the front? Ironically, it didn't take my long to rebuild this bike now that I know what I'm doing. I've learned taping Di2 cables to an old derailleur cable really helps with routing, especially when using a strong magnet...:)

OK, I figured out my own problem. It turns out the right arm of the front brake wasn't installed correctly, and there was epoxy filling all of the holes for the brake spring. I drilled out the epoxy in the holes, then reinstalled the arms with the springs in the holes furthest out. Wow...the front brake works much better now!

btw.. here are the parts I am using to go Di2 on the bullhorns...

Shimano Dura Ace 9071 Di2 TT/Reverse Brake/Shift lever
Shimano E-tube SM-EW90-B Cockpit Junction Box 5-Port

I ordered some additional e-tubes.. but not sure they are needed yet. I kind of like Secteur's use of the double junction box, since I am not sure where I can hide all this junk.

I also found some Jagwire Black Housing Liner (Fits up to 1.8mm Cables) for the recabling...

HELP, IT'S NOT WORKING! I plugged everything into the 5-port and it isn't coming on when I plug in the battery. If I replicate the old setup we are fine, but when I remove the old 'buttoned' switch out of the picture it won't work. Let me draw a picture, but any ideas appreciated.

edit: here is the setup.. 5-port into the original 3-port... only the original aero bar end shifters work, not the new brake levers/shifters. so... that makes me think that the new items aren't 'programmed into the system'.

That's odd...I just reinstalled everything on my new Slice RS frame with the same components as you. I used the 4 port junction in the chainstays to connect everything to a cable that ran up the downtube to the 5-port junction box, which connected to the shifters. Everything works fine for me. Have you taken yours to a shop to get it diagnosed the PCE1? BTW, I never used the 3-port junction which came with the bike, just the 5-port. I would also try hooking things up like you did prior to getting the 5-port junction and base bar shifters. This will help determine which components might be causing the problem. Good luck!

You can only use 1 "A" junction in your system, choose either the 3 or 5 port. You can have multiple "B" junctions, I have 3 in my current build.

Thanks, as I've heard on this Di2 thread, apparently "The last update for the 9071 levers and most of the other etube parts was in September. So that means the 9071 levers will have newer firmware that will prevent it from working properly with your 6770 derailleurs, battery mount, and shifter. It just depends on when you updated your components' firmware last. " My firmware will be old...

I presumed this too 801pe, but perhaps without the firmware upgrade, this "5-port" is just a dumb 5-port connection device, and isn't exhibiting an "A" type personality yet. :-)

Btw... here's the setup before and after. I'll let you know when I get it working.

Sorry, my bad, I was basing what I said off the picture, not your diagram. Updating the firmware takes all of 5 minutes, LBS shouldn't charge much for that, if they do, the sm-pce1 is @170 on amazon right now. Good luck, once set up the new etube systems are very low maintenance.

Reason for selling: After Guru and Retul fit the bike geometries do not fit me.

Finished my winter project. New Quarq Elsa Powermeter, new brake lever/shifters with Di2, new aero bar setup (to get more of an ergo bend)... and DA pedals! And.. yes, i will be putting bar tape on. Couldn't find a good spot for the 5-port... but, hey, I am over it. Blast away if you like, but that 5-port placement (and frontal impact) is the least of my worries. :-)

Hi Pete

Sounds like your seatpost is too long and touches the bottom of the "seatpost pocket" in the frame?

Grease on the metal-expander and carbon paste between frame, expander and seatpost absolutely works for me.

Could also be the saddle-mount that lacks a bit of grease?

Hope this can help you :-)

In your opinion, how difficult is it to assemble? I live in Singapore and am really about to order a 13' model w/ Di2. I don't know how much the Cannondale shop here would charge for assembly, but there is only one in the country, so it's not like a have a bunch of options. Technically I think I am proficient (installed a few car engines, wrench on my own bike for the most part..) But have never owned a TT bike and have never put a bike together.

Are the directions/instructions/tools necessary too encompassing for someone like me to build myself?

hi everybody.

i have been looking at the slice rs for a while but i'm not sure about the fit.

right now i have height from bottom bracket to seating surface that is 74cm and my pads are about 7cm-7,5cm lower.

as far as i can tell from the geometry-sheet on cannondale's homepage the highest pad stack is 63,5cm for a 54-frame, and this would be to low. is this right and is there a way to get the right heigth, another handlebar maybe?

I used to own a slice, now riding the rs. I bought it because I couldn't get the stack low enough on my slice. I was using a -17 stem with no spacers and it wasn't low enough.
Still getting used to how low the stack is on the rs, as it isn't as comfortable as my old slice, but I love it.
In my opinion if you only are 7cm lower in the front, I wouldn't bother jumping to the rs. Going uphill is brutal as the basebar would be so much lower than the pad mounts for you.

Question: I test rode a 58cm RS Black this afternoon. It felt great in the aero with the full stack of 3 spacers = 50mm. I could lose a 20mm spacer and still be g2g.

Going to the pursuit bar it was freakishly low. I can't imagine climbing a half mile steep let alone a couple of miles of it. I enter tri's from sprints to the occasional 140. I'm 6'3" with a 34" inseam.

Is there another base bar option that rises 50mm or more. I'd hate to pass up on this bike but can't justify a fat wad of cash just to race the flats.

I tried to get this bike for the 2nd year in a row and came up empty handed. I contacted Cannondale and they tried to find one for me but then said they couldn't. They told me to look at the new slice in which I said no then they insisted that I wait for the next lineup to come out in 2015. I asked them if they were done with the RS but they just told me to wait till 2015, so i'm guessing they got something special in the works to make the bike not only performance oriented but much more travel friendly and convenient to disassemble and put together again. Most mech's i've talked to say that the RS was one of the harder bikes to put together and after that recall i'm sure C-dale wants to get it right. One of the hardest bikes to get your hands on brand new too.

I asked them about the availability of the Slice RS as I heard it was only available as a frameset.. the woman told me she only had a 54 RS left, and that she didnt see anymore stock coming for the RS complete or frameset... although my friends dealer catalog listed a frameset...

I have to wonder what is going on... have they stopped producing the RS... but now Garmin and Cannondale have merged and all they have on the table is a Non UCI conforming bike??

finally built up this thing after sitting in pieces for like a whole year. It's aite. The brakes suck and take a million hours to make sense of. The angles of the tubes still make me mad, but for a spaceship it'll do fine for 2015 racing and coffee shop KOMs

ultegra 10, wheels+cover , crankset from my caad10. The bottom bracket needed some funky adapters .....

no idea about the fit, but i just slammed the front down, and put the seat with 5cm of the bb, and ~5mm of my road bike seat height. Felt good to go.

I have heard earlier this year from a rep that they were not going to produce the RS anymore and that the new Slice would take it's place as the only one. Now I could see that changing with the merger of Cannondale and Garmin, or they just ride the 2014 RS

One reason to NOT run 25 mm is that the brakes are very particular and fussy to adjust... I am just happy that my Zipps and 23mm tires are the same width, so that I don't need to play with / remove the noodle hanger thingy when changing tires, etc. The space between the hanger and tire is very tight. I wouldn't go there with a 25mm... and I've done a lot of brake fiddling.

yeah, i'm sorry man ... not really very helpful of me. i think i reacted because there is so much crap about wide being fast these days.

and the other poster is right, especially if you have the vision base bar, which uses shifter cables for brakes, it is very very fussy to change wheel width. i have barrel adjusters in mine and i still don't like to change widths.

Trying to figure out wifes bike(2013 Slice RS). I’d bring it in but I had it into the shop three times last year (all to diff shops) and each time it came out something was broke including her crank falling off mid ride so even though the tri in the house was a bit intimidating I figured I’d add it to my fixing list.

I’m trying to adjust her brakes or preferably swap out pads in the rear. I’ve read through this thread and I’ve made sure the noodle is in the correct position. I’ve done it and I thought I was good to go but after a few times using the brakes I noticed the right side kept barely rubbing, but it rubbed so no good. I tried adjusting with no luck, after some time I put the old pad on the right side and left a new one on the left for some testing. Worked great for like 20 times but then it start rubbing a bit on the other side(left). No matter what I try to do I seem to be running into the problem where it wants to stick to one side a hair more than the other? Thoughts or suggestions? I’ve read other similar things in this read but maybe I’m missing something. The front isn’t a problem replacing the pads and adjusting but maybe there’s more to the tension with the cantilevers.

Also, I am unable to remove the top bracket as the two screws in the picture(highlight with an * ) seem to be stripped? Can someone tell me if this should be a 2.0? This is a first for me so I haven’t tried to remove them before but the 2.5 seems to large and the 2.0 seems to move quite a bit and I didn’t want to strip as finding replacement parts for this bike has required me to call bike shop then have them call cannondale, then I pick up from bike shop. (yes I had to do some fancy work with an allen wrench to remove and replace the pads on the right side ;) ).

I’m pretty new with a lot of this, so I apologize in advance if I’m missing something easy.

Thanks much!

So the centering of the brakes is the absolute most tricky thing to get right on this bike. One thing to start with is that I am using 808 wheels, where the rim and the tire are the same width... So I don't need to mess with anything when taking the wheel on and off.

But to get the brakes to pull evenly on both sides comes down to:
1) making sure the brakes are set so that there is a good amount of tension when the brakes are in the 'ready to ride' position. When you remove the brake calipers there are three positions for the tenspring to sit in. I think I have mine in the middle but this setting where the tension spring can be put in one of the three holes will adjust the overall tension of each side.
2) once that is set, there is a very small Allen key on the outside of the cannondale special caliper arms. This, as it is tightened, will increase the tension on the side you are adjusting. This is the final place to get the tension even.

(what makes it worse, is that all of this has to be done very delicately because the screws are very small and easy to use strip)

3) I had to resort taking out the brake pads and sanding them down a little... So that the brake didn't need to travel so far to make contact with the rim.

It's a bear... I know. Good luck. I may be able to answer questions, if you have any.

Hey guys. I havn't been on here for awhile and am now at a shop selling TREK but one thing i noticed in the above reply by trislice was that the brake cover can sit so close to the brake arms that they touch and don't allow the arms to have there full spring tension. Few options here. If you don't have the di2 version remove it. If you need it you might want some spacers to allow it to sit a touch higher. A bit of grease between the cover and the brake arms might help.
Hope you got it sorted already or some of this helps.
Chris.

Thanks much for both of the quick replies and help. I'll give it some more tinkering after work this evening. I know I already asked but anyone know what size those two screws I had in the pic above or #24 in the pic below? That #2 sure does seem to move a lot and I'm nervous to do put pressure as it seems inevitable that it would strip. Thanks again.

Oh, yes... I had forgotten that... I thought I had documented my fix for this above, but don't see it... I used a small "u" shaped cut out piece of black foam (one of those 8.5"x11" paper sized foam sheets you find in a craft store) to create the space between the caliper and the u-shaped cover.

I recall those screws to the cover being tightly attached.. note the 'loctite' note above. That means it takes quite a hefty turn to get them started. i just tried a 2.5, and it doesn't fit.. i guess that means that the 2mm was the one that fit.

I did put on Swisstop Evo's last night and making it tighter(more tension) seemed to help along with the tensioners and springs. With all this I think she's good to go but will need to wait until the wife takes it out this evening, it got too last last night when I put it all back together. On the plus side it appears after looking at how it all works I should be able to make other carbon wheels fit, last year a couple local shops(cannondale dealerships) around here said they couldn't put the zipps on this bike because they simply will not fit, to which was very confusing as I'd seen them sold with the Zipps.

Anyway, thanks all.

Is there anyone who has or knows of a successful CAMPY EPS installation on the Slice RS???

Just to let you know. I have made my wifes Slice RS run with all kinds of Zipp Firecrest CC, both 404, 808 and Super9. Don't tighten the brake arms too much. In "neutral" they should align with the frame, both front and rear. Use spacer rings between brake arm and brake pad to get the desired tension on the brake. Use the small 2,5mm screws on brake arms to adjust alignment when braking.

Hope this can help you :-)

Ok, yet another question. How to do I remove #18 (or to the left of 18 - Loctite 243, 5.0Nm in the picture)? I remove the 4 screws to pull the plate off, but that bolt that accepts the back screws underneath it has a very different pattern, I've never seen it. Thanks much as always!

Yet another question from this bike that feels like my nemesis. I'm trying to pull the cranks out(not bearings) and I removed the 10mm hex and pulled off the one arm, now i've removed the drive bearing shield and outside washer, from what I've gathered on the internet it should slide right out. But I had to force anything before knowing, can anyone confirm this should slide out? maybe a light tap with a rubber mallet? thanks.

Hi together,

hopefully one of you is having a wahoo kickr at home. Could you please tell me if the slices chainstays fit onto a wahoo kickr? Currently I'm using an Elite Turbo Muin, but the chainstays are hitting Muins non-drive side housing :(

Thanks in advance

Hi there, I have bought the same bike, 2013 model Black Inc pre-owned but as new condition and noticed the finish on the frame is slightly uneven in some places. Only a tiny bit but the matt black exacerbates the issue. Especially on the top tube the weave below the paint seems to have a couple of small lumps, and the "point" on the end of the top tube isn't perfect. I'm sure there is no issues with the frame but it's just not 100% perfect carbon work like my Evo frame.... have you found anything similar with your Black Inc frame?

i never post on ST, but i wanted to memorialize this thought. It made a HUGE difference using the Vision specific cables and housings when re-cabling the bike with vision TT levers, the ones that came on 2013 ultegra mechanical RS build. The levers support fully internal housings. The DragOn vision cables are very flexible, and the cable is a 1mm thinner diameter cable than most brands. The end of the cable also resembles shimano/sram shift cables , not mushroom, and not campy. I was having the biggest headache, attempting nokon brake housins, old jagwire brake housins, new jagwire road pro brake housings and cables..... Having a stiff cable while great on road bikes is not what the slice RS needs..... too many hours of my youth were wasted on brake housings and cable routing for this bike.

first attempt cutting, installing housing, routing cable through, and bolting up brake.... the brake felt actually responsive. I would encourage anyone who works on their own slice RS and vision levers to get the DragOn cable / housing set.

For the shift cables, which i didn't have any issue with, im going with nokons off my road bike with new cables. Seems to work fine, and the original pictures of the slice on liquigas , the mechanics seem to use this approach.

one question i do have, and have never found the answer to.... does anyone or any company make a bb30 (slice rs) to GXP adapter kit. Im using wheels mFR right now and it's not exactly bb30 and not exactly ideal.

thanks! It was the universally 'asian brand' HB029 bar which i think shows up in numerous rebradned forms, PDQ etc. Unidirectional finish and 42cm base bar width. Looked sweet to me, and as long as it doesn't implode first ride, cheap enough to replace the comical Trimax stock slice RS setup

the brake levers are spring loaded TRP RL 970 levers. I like them. Seem to work!

You'll need to remove the brake arm from the frame and reset the spring. Its not hard just time consuming. Good luck.

Can anybody give a detailed description of how to do this? I've got my bike stripped down to the bare frame and yesterday I started to build it back up. When I tried to reinstall the front brakes, I inserted the long side of the spring into the middle hole on the fork, but there is virtually no tension, which makes me think I'm missing a step.

Ok, so I figured out how to reset the springs.

But in the process of re-attaching the rear brakes, I sheared the head off of one of those weird bolts. (yes, I was using a torque wrench. Yes, it was set correctly. Yes, I know how to use it.) Cannondale's illustrious customer service refuses to even tell me what the part is without going through a dealer. Does anybody know what the name of this bolt is? Surely, they can be ordered on the internet?

Whew... glad I found this resource!

So... I've had rear brake 'dramas' before but thought I'd pretty much sorted it...

Until I got a brand shiny new sub 9 :( Removed 808 rear and put in disc.

Well of course it rubbed but loosened off the cable and it was fine in the workstand but then rubbed on the road (after reading through all 17 pages I know this is normal).

So... decided to adjust grub screws to recenter things. Of course its here that it all goes to pot!

After fiddling with the non drive side (cause the drive side is a pain) I eventually loose all tension from that brake arm (I suspect I either backed out the screw too much or wound it in too much... I do have a tendancy to the 'get a bigger hammer' approach)

Anyway, not to be deterred I get the user manual and commence disassembly. This proceeds more or less ok (seems to be a stripped head on one of the smaller screws that holds the cover in place but nothing major).

Remove brake arm (which was kinda lose). ensure spring is the hole (its in the outside-most hole) and then line it up with hole in the brake arm and put humpty together again. Still no tension.

Is there a crucial step I'm missing?

Whilst admitting defeat and taking it back to a shop is always an option I suspect that here in Singapore mine would be the only slice RS that even Cannondale Asia have seen let alone anyone else.

Also, are there more detailed instructions somewhere than the (somewhat useless) User manual?

Mines the 2013 Black (so older style vision bars and brakes - won't fit the nice adjustable SRAM ones :( )

brake rub isn't normal.

u might be able to find spare naero brake parts online, but it seems like a local shop (regardless of seeing slice RS) would be able to help.

The slice RS def needs patience when installing stuff on it. For my first shot at switching my bars and recabling the whole bike.... i probably had 15-20 hours wrapped up in this lol. Just buying cable housings, trying cables, making sure cables weren't crossing inside, redoing some of those brake clear sleeves' etc etc etc. And eventually did nokon housings for brakes

I just noticed that my fork was loose. When applying the front brake and pushing the bike forward, the flex was noticeable. Upon inspection I found that the lower bolt holding the fork to the frame was finger-loose. Tightening it by hand removed the flex.

After getting a 14 mm hex socket, I removed the lower bolt for inspection. It was greased, with no sign of thread-lock (as specified in the manual). The upper bolt was still tight, but not hard to remove, and in the same condition.

Reinstalled with the recommended thread-locker, and all seams fine.

Has anyone else encountered this? I wonder who assembled the fork, as it apparently was not done according to the manual...

Remove brake arm and ensure spring plate is in correct position so that the grub tension screw can be wound in completely.

Insert short end of spring into tension plate then mount on cantilever boss and rotate so that long end of spring lines up with whichever hole you want use on the frame(It's easier to do this step with brake pads removed or twisted vertically to avoid interference with the frame).

Once you get the spring into the frame you should be able to feel tension when twisting brake arm into correct position. Be careful that spring does not dislodge from spring plate or you won't get any tension. If it is mounted correctly but no tension you might need to swap springs to opposite sides.

With both sides mounted, install brake cable so you can apply brakes. Both brake arms should move and spring back. If one side is not moving you might want to try reducing tension by moving spring to a different hole in the frame (mine are set with one in the middle hole and the other in the inner hole).

Once you get both sides working, reinstall brake pads and put wheel on. You might need to adjust brake cable tension once wheel is installed. Use the small grub tension screws to fine tune brake alignment, so if brakes seem to sit slightly to one side when released, release a bit of tension from that side. If you wind that grub screw out too far the spring plate will be able to rotate to much and you will not have any tension. If this happens you must remove brake arm and start again.

Hello!
I have a problem with the seatpost tube that goes down ...
Yet I have applied to the special anti slip carbon paste.
On the clamping system, indicated 5N.m.
If I serve 5N.m., the saddle slipped immediately when I'm on it.
If I serve 8N.m., saddle slips when there shaking.
Is there a risk if I am in 10Nm?

I have been having the same problem. I'm a big guy though (210lb) but I have tried alot. I just put the carbon paste on and over torqued the bolt a bit ( between 8-9) with the carbon paste and riding home from the bike shop a couple miles I had no slip but you could try adding a bit of texture to the seat post wedge or anything that might give the post a bit more grip inside the frame.

So got hold of the distributor. Turns out the bike is a 2013 based on pics I sent them. They said that they did re-call and were quite thorough in replacing the frames, but they cant tell if this one was replaced or not, and either way I wont have any recourse whether replaced or not. So how do i know it was replaced? Can I tell from something specific? And assuming it was replaced after the re-call have the issues been sorted?

My other reservations about the bike are the base bar height, and wheel clearance. I like to train and race on min 25mm tyres with a 404 or 808fc. Just don't feel like complicating relatively simple things like swapping wheels etc.

On the fence with the bike. Paid a deposit but might back out.

For the most part no, I'm about 7cm above my base bar on my current set up and actually like the lower base bar and going to the base bar I'm still opening up a good amount in regards to hip angle in a semi aggressive position. Most modern aero bars are going to a extension stack anyway due to aerodynamic benefits anyway so most people have a drop the the base bar.

After almost missing a race last year because of trouble adjusting my Slice RS I decided to make a few upgrades.

What needed to be done was to simplify all type of adjustments.

So for the shifters I went with Sram Red etap.

But the biggest problem was the brakes. The brake cables had so many curves it didn't return all the way after braking. So I went on and rerouted the brake cable and added a adjuster on the housing and Srams brake lever with adjustability and spring to help the return of the cable. I also made the housing go all the way from the brake levers to the brakes itself. Now I can change wires only unscrewing the wire from the brake and pushing a new wire through the brake lever, (5 min work tops). I can also adjust the brake while riding the bike if necessary.

I have yet to test all of that in real life but things are very promissing on the trainer...

were u using vision's proprietary drag-on cables and housings? I threw away dura ace, sram, and jagwire cables during my first attempt at recabling, and once i used visions' cables and housings which are more flexible and smaller diameter cable (with same brake head) it went on first try and without any drag. I can honestly say my brakes on the slice RS has never felt better and strong (hilariously enough).....

my shifting has been suspect, and i'm in the works with getting a top cap printed so that the brake cable entry is the same (because i'm happy with it) and the shifter cable will go straight down ala, nibali mod earlier this thread. i wish i had the coin for etap for a bike that i enjoy riding but dont ride enough and would prefer to have etap on my road bike....

I was and still am using vision's housing through the basebar. But the rest is sram housing.
The wire I'm using is the jagwire with black coating. The cable itself is 1,5mm thick. It flows nicely now with this mod. But I basically had to redo everything with the brake cables. All the plastic stock parts are gone.

Hey RS peeps, I am considering picking up one of these frames.

Right now I'm riding a 2011 Slice 4. I really like the bike and I've got a GREAT fit, but there are a couple of cracks in the frame I am getting looked at, so if they're "fatal" cracks I may be looking for a new frame even though I do not particularly want to change my bike right now.

I'm running a Rival 2x10 group set with a wifli medium cage rear derailleur, and a BB30 SRAM/Quarq power meter. Hoping this stuff will transfer over (except I am aware the brake calipers are different)

Here's the ebay ad for the frame I have my eye on:
http://www.ebay.com/...rksid=p2056016.l4276

From this picture and various others on a google image search, I'm aware this frame does not have a conventional steerer tube and stem arrangement.
I'm attaching a picture of my current bike to give an idea of how high I am above the top tube and the kinds of bars I'm running. It's a profile design T2 wing alloy basebar and alloy T1 aerobars. 100mm 6 degree stem.
If it helps, my stack is 685, reach 455, and my drop is -6.5cm.
Will it be possible to get the same fit with the RS frame set?
How much of my bar/stem/aerobars etc will have to be replaced?

The main reason I'm interested in this frame is the (possibly mistaken) idea that I can basically reproduce the bike I'm riding and loving, without having to $pend kajillions or buy a bunch of new gear. Please let me know if this is misguided.

The "RS" version is not like the Slice version you are riding. See this from this Slowtwitch link:

: The third problem with this bike was its geometry and not the nominal geometry of the frame, but the position you got out of the complete bike with the custom stem taken into consideration. The stem was very flat, scooted over the leading edge of the fork and then dropped down a couple of centimeters. The resulting rider position was very low.

Your posted photo (high) is unlikely to work with the RS version. Replacing your Slice with the same version is going to be easier.

Yeah, I was kind of getting that idea.

I would tighten down the headset. You will have to remove the cables to do that. I've never run the rear brake cover and it's not needed atleast in my experience. I have not had an issue getting parts but seeing as the frame will be 2 generations old I would assume it will be hard to find parts and the frame has quite a few proprietary parts.

ART, MDT, DNS, MPI, FST

Picked up a second hand Slice RS a couple of days ago - generally in very good condition, but a couple of questions I would be very grateful for some answers to (turns out the seller had a different definition of 'ready to race' than me...). These may well be silly questions.

1) There's some free-play in the headset, enough to be annoying. Am I right in thinking that this can only be sorted out by removing at least some/all of the cables?
2) Not mentioned by the seller, but my bike is missing the cable guide that seems to normally sit under the stem cap, and the fairing for the rear brake. I've ordered replacements for these, but I take it there's no harm in riding without them for now?
3) Given that Cannondale has a new Slice out soon, does anyone have any insight in spares availability for the RS? Is there already anything that's difficult to get hold of, or likely to become difficult? Having replaced my last TT bike due to having lost a seemingly irreplaceable minor part from the saddle clamp, I'm basically going to stockpile any spares so that I never have to buy another bike again. ;-)

Only been out on a steady ride on it so far, and it's great, but just needs these few issues sorting to be perfect. Any advice would be gratefully received.

the Super Slice may be in a holding pattern due to the professional cyclist concerns about safety of disc brakes in their races.

slice rs needed recabling....so i put money down for etap. At least now i can worry about other things, and have some* adjustability when it comes to position tweaking. probably 3d print some blip grips of my own that look like di2 dummy shifters to add some length to extension

Ski-bend extensions for Slice RS [ In reply to ]

Hello guys! I've got Cannondale Slice RS 2013. I'd like to change stock bar extensions to more comfortable ski-bend (J-bend) extensions. Extensions from other producers such Zipp or Profile Design is not suitable for my aerobar. But I find pictures that some people can find j-bend extensions for Slice RS (for example bike for Peter Sagan in 2013-14)
Did someone know suitable j-bend extensions for Slice RS?

trying to understand ..... are u looking for a different bend than SKI? with less angle to the bend?

or the bars you've bought separately wont work with your cockpit ?

do you want the exact* bars that sagan had on his slice rs?

Which aerobars are currently on your bike? Basebar, arm pads, extension clamps, extensions.
Do you have a photo of your bik?

Interesting. I just researched it a bit and looks like those Vision bars use a smaller sized extension. You may be stuck trying to find a Visin J/ski bend extension.

Sorry, didn't know Vision's specs until now.

Anyone still own an RS? mine is still kicking and i've been printing some parts for the front end. possibly the most modified china base bar in the country? i dunno. it's fun to ride to get groceries on this thing though. looking for something new soon though, holding out for a bolide or maybe a pro team to sell me season old superslice rime brake version , pro edition.

Mine is still alive and kicking as well.

Interesting to see someone has bought the HB029 and mounted it to a Slice RS. How do you like it? An improvement over the standard Vision alu handlebar setup? Seems to require longer exposed cable housing between the handlebar and the frame?

Love to see that you've mounted the pad holders with the bolts inwards as well, as I've been thinking about is that would be possible.

I like it, it was cheap and fit my needs. By now the only things that are still HB029 is the base, the risers and the clamps. Longer cable, but that also allows for less tight bends. For the price , i think it's worth it. I think i have probably 300$ invested into this current setup and it was better than spending a grand on a setup. Is it faster , i dunno, but i like the aesthetics of the current setup.

Great, thanks!

Could you also provide the measurement of it, thinking about UCI's 3:1 rule specifically regarding how wide they are?

Hi, anyone now if it is just to remove this by drilling out the blind rivets? And if I can later reattach it with new blind rivets? (Or if there is some plate on the inside that could come loose?)

Yes, correct. It was supposed to be a pic there as well but it didn't upload. Hoping to be able to remove it without destroying it, so I can revert if neccesary.
