Did you spray paint this thing? Seems like all of the pics are distorted, could you mail me some of it outside in daylight? andrew.o.jordan@gmail.com
No, I did not "spray paint" (assume you are implying a rattle can from your local big box store). The frame was sanded exhaustively using 3M 600, 800, 1200 grit sandpaper to get safely to bare carbon. This took several hundred hours by hand. As opposed to a base coat, I then used valspar
AC4400 clear with valspar FX01 flattening agent. This is an additive that will protect the nude carbon for life - from both light and debris. I layered this using gravity feed gun in my paint booth. When I was finished I used a plotter cut cervelo mask for the top tube and down tube. I used an airbrush with a black base coat and layed on the logos to give it a 3D appearance.
I am sure that this look does not work for everyone. I have a Parlee TT road bike and wanted a unique bike that looked similar to a Z1. The R3 was and still is one of the best frames on the market, therefore I decided to use something I do regularly (automotive restoration, painting and bike frames) and try a flattening agent.
I do not ride anymore, so I cannot justify a Parlee TT that sits on a trainer and a custom R3.
I hope this helps.
Price reduced.
Thanks
