I'd be curious of individual quantity pricing......like for 2/3 jerseys and shorts, along with a TT suit.

Back in my inline days, our unis were done by

Great work. Very nicely done.

If you go through the process, let me know about pricing.....

All these people had good websites. pretty good prices also. What should a first-time buyer beware of, who has never ordered custom work?

I mean, this is normal to look for AFTER puchase: printing hickeys, bad stitching, falls apart in 3 wearings, etc...

But REALLY, how does a consumer price and know the product needs ahead of time?

Lauren,

I have some of the same concerns. We've had Voler and Verge before and my personal pref. would be to stay with them since we know how the product wears etc. Most of the companies out there will send samples or fabric swatches, but you don't always get the full picture.

Here's another one someone suggested:

I'm not in the market right now, but these are good to know and I'm bookmarking all. But I have an active mind (drives the BF crazy!) and I can pre-suppose problems to pre-troubleshoot (?) before I'm burned - or before others are burned also.

I always wonder WHY a company might be 50% the price of the competitors, for example. For example, Champ-sys lists their prices and Voler's and Verge's. Why are the prices so different?

For example in another industry: the printing industry used to be expensive for 4-color. Eventually, they created computer plates and also gang-printing - all the clients' work 'ganged' together on one press. Now it's really cheap to have, say, 4-color biz cards, 1000 for $100 or less.

So what about the uniform (+ sublimation) biz? What are the price points? What are the possible pitfalls? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

Just curious,
Lauren

I used them two years ago. They were pretty easy to work with. We used the semi custom ones. You do need to give them some lead time 6 weeks or so. The jerseys turned out great. (my picture is in the testimonial section) I would use them again.

Hi Lauren,

Where'd you find prices 50% cheaper than Voler? Most of the custom companies are pretty good, there are two main printing processes that I know of. The standard sublimation either by spot color or a few even use CMYK process. And then there are places like customsublimation.com who i believe is using digital right on the fabric printing. Don't quote me on that though.

In my experience, the more you look the more prices level out and are pretty similar. That being said everyone has different price break quantities so that might be a reason to go with one company or another. Some like Voler allow you to buy your place in the production line. Also go with companies that offer fabric you like. I personally don't like the Voler fabrics, just me, a lot of friends like it.

For our Team kit we used http://www.fcarvalho-ciclismo.com/clo/index.php, inexpensive (at least here in the UK), quick turnaround, and good to work with. Happy to recommend them

WOW, Champ-Sys is pretty cheap. I wonder about the quality and turnaround. One thing to not is that they are quoting their price comparisons for 5-color printing and very few jerseys are 5-color. This is the type of printing where digital will stomp it's competition price wise BUT most jerseys are 2-3 colors at max so in these color ranges the pricing will be closer but the Champ-Sys prices are still very very nice. The local guys I know who do screen printing are all pretty skeptical about how well the digital printing holds up as far as how the ink effectively binds to the fabric, is there a special cure cycle, etc etc. Anyways, it's their specialty but they all seem to think that the digital printing would be a LOT less durable than a normal sublimation transfer. I have to admit that when I think about how it works without actually testing the digital printing, I'd guess that sublimation would be more durable versus the digital which simply prints on the very outer surface of the fabric. One of the main problems with technical fabrics is that they are hydrophobic which also means it's pretty hard to print on them with liquid inks, ie the digital process... Sublimation is a gas transfer which is why it works so well. I'm no expert though, just my 2cents.

I'm currently working on an order with Sugoi and have had really good experience with them and Garneau. I love the Squadra fabrics but they always seem more expensive.

The weblink for Champ-sys (see the posts above) says it's almost 50% less. I was just reading their website - they listed their prices plus others'.

I don't know anything about cloth dye-sub or jerseys or other gear. I'm not a racer, sorry, so this is all new info to me and I'm soaking it in! But in case I ever have to make a recommendation or buy myself, I'll know.

What do you not like about the Voler fabric? What's the difference between Voler and another company's fabrics? What should i look for when making a purchase of this type of product(s)?

I handled our cycling team's order with Voler the last few seasons. The prices quoted are not accurate. We got their top of the line everything and it was not close to those prices. We are a 50 person team so we did hit some price breaks. I don't know about the other's quality, but thanks to a backlog of laundry, I rode to work today in my 3 year old kit. Some color fade from a bazillion washings, but there is still plenty of life in them. Voler makes good stuff.
