swim kick?
yesterday, i went for a swim with an experienced tri-friend. i suck at swimming. he checked out my form and told me not to kick so hard and it worked! i actually swam faster while virtually not even kicking. how is this possible?

in a sprint triathlon do you want to use this non-kicking strategy as well?

swimming fast means going through the water quickly with as little resistance as possible. people who kick to hard are just making a lot of turbulence and splashes, which slows you down. the kick should be powerful but smooth like when you have flippers on. it is amazing how quickly a person can fix their swimming by having someone look at the stroke in the water.

keep on swimming and you may turn into a fish.

You might have been kicking form your lower leg which creates a big splash but no propulsion. Relaxing your kick might have caused to straighten your legs and point your toes which enhances the flow of water with much less effort.

Your kick should remain within the width of your body and not much more.
