new stem suggestions? Help!
I currently have an FSA OS-115 31.8 diameter, 100mm stem w/ a -17% drop. I am looking for a stem that is a 31.8 diameter and 110mm with a little more drop, without using an adjustable stem. Any advice? I have looked at many websites so far and have not been able to locate a stem with a bigger drop.
Thanks,
S

I know you said that you do not want an adjustable, but the Ritchey Pro is really stiff and it cannot slip like the others. I installed one on a friends bike who needed a low position and it worked great.

Thanks for the fast info. The Forte is a little more than I need. Altough I liek the price. I have a few Ritchey Products and they are built well. So I will check out their adjustable stem.

Just looked at Ritchey's site. It looks like the stem does not come in a 31.8. Is that true?

You could always look at the Oval adjustable stem, I have one on my TT bike and love it. This way you select your own drop.

Thanks for the info. 30 degrees is too much. I need around 20 degrees. I will check out the Oval stem.

I am also a bit confused about why some stem manufacturers describe the stem angle as either 73,80, 84 degrees or in the +/-degrees form. I would assume it all translates into the same stem angle. Correct?
For example
I have a -17 degree stem so that would be a 73 degree stem. Correct?
Sorry if this is a simple/ stupid question

No, they're not the same. 73 is 17 in your system, 80 is 10 and 84 is 6. It all depends on whether the angle is measured between the stem and the head tube (73), or between the stem and the normal to the headtube (17).

Edit: And yes to your last question.

Thanks. I always hated any classes in school that used numbers.

I use an adjustable stem on my Tri bike and it is rock solid. I love it. I needed more drop, plus it allowed my to do it gradually to get used to it. It's actually a Nashbar cheapy, but it's very similar to the Ritchey adjustable.

Look at the specialized multiposition stems, they can shim to ~24degrees
