He was injured the 8 weeks before roth, I presume these give some sort of support. Either that or he's a big fan of Paula Ratcliffe.

compression socks. see oxysox.com. work even better with redshoe brand shoes.

This was the case. He injued a calf and was wearing the socks for compression support.
