jhc, or someone re rhodiola rosea
A doctor on Good Morning America was talking about weight loss supplements and brought up the Russian herb, Rhodiola Rosea. He said it was an appetite suppresant but was mainly used as an proven endurance enhancer by Russian athletes.
What is the active ingredient and is it banned?

I'm honored to be singled out ;)

I'd never heard of Rhodiola Rosea before your post, but a quick persal of Medline tells me there are at least 5 active compunds than can be identified with HPLC: salidroside, rosin, rosavin, rosarin and tyrosol. In this study (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/...p;list_uids=15256690) where a positive ergogenic effect was shown, the extract was standardized for 3% rosavin + 1% salidroside.

I dont see any references to the herb or any of its components in the WADA 2005 booklet, so I'm guessing they're legal to use.
