Twice now I have ridden races with rolling hills, only to have my IT band act up and make the rest of the ride/run miserable. I am from the flatlands in central MI and have no problems with it on flat rides. But when I throw in some hills, as in the steelhead this week-end, I end up in a lot of pain. I try to keep my cadence ~ 90 rpm on the hills and shift to an easier gear, but that hasn't worked. Any thoughts on what causes this or ways to correct it?

Re: hills on the bike = IT band issues? [TriKitty]

For me, 2 things aggravate my IT bands every time. Upping my mileage and hills. As I increase my mileage and up my training on hills, the soreness tends to go away.
that said, my IT bands were on fire after steelhead too. They were fine during the race, but a few hours after the race they were killing me. In my case, I think it was the running more than the biking. But who knows.

Make sure your saddles not to low,I used to have that problem, but it went away after raising my saddle
