Okay, I'm new to ebay and, frankly, it worries me. I know, I know, most transactions are legit. However, I'm quite certain this one isn't. http://cgi.ebay.com/...=5778764925&rd=1 I emailed the guy and said I was leery and wondering what's up and "Johnny English" responded within five minutes with this reply. It's actually quite funny. Thoughts? Hi, Yes we have all sizes in stock. The price is low because I have factory prices
I am glad you want to purchase my bike. Before we
proceed the
transaction I want to let you know that the bike
is new in box.
The final price is 1450$( including shipping and insurances)
The bike will be shipped from CA. and I
will pay the insured shipping
taxes through Sky Star Express. You can verify the

decide if you want or not to keep the unit, for
whichever reason, you'll ship it back to me on my
expenses and you'll get the full amount back. I
suggest you to use Western Union because is the
fastest and easiest way to send money world wide.

tell you what they transport with that tracking

any problems.

So they use a shipping company out of Spain to ship a bike from California? Despite all the other obvious signs of fraud, that one is my favorite.

I didn't even read your whole post, but red flag #1 = WESTERN UNION. Red flag #2 is the no questions asked 15-day money back guarantee. Rarely do you find people willing to give you such a guarantee these days--doesn't always mean it's a scam, but it really raises suspicion in my book. Oh, and I wouldn't be surprised if SkyStarExpress is bogus. Pass.

In addition, I just noticed the auction exclaims "DO NOT USE E-BAY CONTACT SELLER"--again, way fishy. Quite likely that's not his ebay account and he wants you to email him directly so the true owner of that account doesn't become aware.

I've decided that I just happened to stumble onto the deal of a lifetime and you're all just jealous. I'm going to order a bike in each size, since he's got all sizes. He said he wanted to close the deal today so I'm heading out to Western Union to wire the money to Johnny English right now.

It could be legit but it has enough red flags that I would steer clear of it. Like others have said, steer clear whenever they say Western Union, they try to close the deal ASAP, also that they tell you not to use the "ask the seller a question" section. Also notice that the question and answer section doesn't match the item that is being sold, it looks like its for some boating equipment. If this hasn't scared you away yet, use the ebay "ask seller a question" and if he replies tell him live nearby and would like to see it and pick it up. Chances are this ad has been pirated from another listing for an unrelated item and pasted over with this ad. Also note that they say to email them BEFORE you bid...why?

Insert blushing emoticon...

What's wrong with Western Union? I really didn't know they had a bad rep. I've never heard anything about them actually...good or bad. I use ebay a lot but have only used paypal for most transactions, buying or selling.

First, ebay indicates that you shouldn't pay using Western Union.

Second, most of the bogus ads ask for western union.

Three, I think its pretty much untraceable...you send it, they pick it up, and they are pretty much in the clear.

FWIW: I use paypal as well.

Ah ha...thanks!

I only will bid on auctions with paypal/money order option b/c that's what I have. That's how I sell things as well. And I thought I was pretty well versed when it came to ebay... :)

I sometimes wonder how and if Paypal/money orders are really that much safer but a lot of scammers tend to not to do the whole paypal thing...plus I think paypal offers up to $500 insurance or something like that:)
